The Doom comic ended up being like a sleeper hit of "lore" for Doom, people dismissed it then, but it would go on to shape how the silent-but-grunty protagonist would be portrayed in other things like popular mods and such, and eventually became pretty much canonized by current Doom. A cult-following level story that became a core characterizing part of the franchise.
@@lechumqc7910 For sure, I'd like to at least see 3 comics (one for each episode) and one for Doom II. I'd love to see how they would handle that silly lore about the pet rabbit, with Doomguy having a really emotional break down about losing them and becoming a ball of rage.
"Some time in 1996 a couple of guys got together and smoked what was apparently a large amount of crack and then injected pure heroin into their eyes and then proceeded to create what is now known only as 'the Doom comic'." Such beautiful poetry to describe this comic in all its magnificence.
Well, about the BFG tracers instead of the big green ball: In game, the most damage dealt from the BFG comes from 40 invisible tracers (like the ones depicted in the comic), so, this is kinda accurate. Even Decino talked about that. I don't know if the tracers where drawn like that because the artists knew about the in game functionality or if it was, indeed, a mistake. But, after all, we can say it's lore accurate. I guess... Nice video bro! Greetings from México!
Yeah I agree. I feel people give to much flack towards the comic's depiction of the BFG while completely oblivious on how the weapon actually functions. And the people that make the comic must've played doom given how much other stuff they got in the comic. The only thing I'd say is inaccurate is the berserker pack wearing off. Doesn't wear off shortly and it takes 3.9 years in real time. Or the whole map as the manual claims.
XBox 360 port of Doom2 named all the achievements after quotes in this comic which was amusing they even reference "You've got huge guts" with the achievement requirements being killing a Cyberdemon with your bare hands.
Most people already know about the comic (And kinda did before 2016). Funny enough, it's seen as the inspiration of the Doomslayer yet Doomguy in the comic fails to "rip and tear" a Cybie right after the line and still gets occasionally hurt. In a way, he reflects more of a potential character for Doomguy: Can kick ass as much as he gets his kicked back. To me, it's Death Battle that might've inspired modern Doom.
yeah but, the bfg ball after it hits something like a wall shoots out a ton of lil tracers that hits things so in a technical sense the panel is correct, we just dont see what the initial energy ball hits. But whatever.
This is a very well known and cherished relic. Reminds me of the old days of 4chan. I know it spans long before that, but that was my introduction to it around 2006 or so. Good stuff.
Despite all the mockery the Doom comic always got over the years, I've always loved it. People who mock it are taking things WAY too seriously. The comic is meant to be absurdly over-the-top and ridiculous. You're *supposed* to read it and laugh, thinking "What the fuck am I reading right now???" That was the intention.
TO be fair the glory kills were inspired by a couple of games execution systems and also the mod "brutal doom" and its melee system which itself was inspired in-part by the comic so you can trace some legacy there
@@krypton_57 You are dead wrong my dude. Brutal doom had them atleast in 2012 if not earlier. They were renamed executions later instead of fatalities as originally they had more of an original MK inspiration and were there to reward skill and fast reflexes out of berserk and in berserk they were used to show how doom guy was actually going berserk. To begin with doom 2016 lifted a lot from the most popular mods at the time because they were what was keeping the doom brand alive and popular. Its a good example of proper pandering and awareness of your demographic.
