Fun Fact: Mick likes to use 1/3 count often for boss fights because they’re usually the time signature for ballads. Why ballads? Because you’re dancing with the boss.
@@Parky64 Waiting to play eternal because i wanna play 2016 first(i started but never finished). But me and my dad are playing thru the original '93 one on co op before we take turns on 2016 and eternal so. Anyways thank u for the tip im replying to save this for later LOL
I will forever remember a comment I saw about this theme when the game first came out “The sentinels are saying Kar En Tuk, which means Rip and Tear.” “This isn’t the Gladiators theme, this is yours.” Good shit
Being a sentinel and having the doom slayer in your side would probably be a hell of an morale boost, I like to think this was their war chant inspired by the slayer
imagine this: you’re a sentinal and you’re coming up to a sea of demons, and all of a sudden you feel a gust of wind push you to the side, and then in a single moment, you see the sea of demons quickly turn into a red cloud, and the only person you can see in the melee is the doom slayer, ripping and tearing demons apart like they’re nothing.
It canonically is. When doom guy was an arena fighter, "RIP AND TEAR" was his battle cry, and the audience members cheering him on later used the phrase. At the battle of Tara's Nabad, when the Doom Slayer left the divinity machine, his voice rung out and morale was returned to the sentinels, who were fighting a losing battle
If I recall, this Praetor Suit model produces actual music out of nowhere for the Doom Slayer. These are actual Night Sentinels cheering him on, but just recordings.
I hate that part, either I was game journalist level of bad or game fucked with me, but boss fight was very unpleasant experience. Had to run around for hp and stuff instead of shooting at the dude. And then I died to a fucking zombie unironically cringe
When you first hear this song and immediately start dodging the boss's attacks almost to the beat of the song is probably one of the most adrenaline induced feeling I've had while playing a game.
@@jasonchandler9777 Yep, Romero said that Doomguy was Commander Keen's grandson and that Keen was, in turn, B.J.'s grandson. I guess being a badass skips a generation in that family.
@@shadowgamer739 well doom proved in it's lore that the multiverse exist. So maybe the blazkowicz from a different dimension where the allies won ww2, since in the machine games Wolfenstein games this is basically a different timeline pretty much
You gotta give the classic hell knights credit; after being absent for so long, they put on a HELL of a last show. We cut down so many of them, yet this single one became strong enough to face the slayer in one on one combat and put up a damn good fight. Love this boss.
the slayer probably even respected the gladiators bravery and it's one on one with Gladiator. The Slayer will probably by far will not doubt the gladiators effort.
In the first age, in the first battle, when the shadows first lengthened, one stood. Burned by the embers of Armageddon, his soul blistered by the fires of Hell, and tainted beyond ascension - he chose the path of perpetual torment. In his ravenous hatred he found no peace; and with boiling blood he scoured the Umbral Plains, seeking vengeance against the dark lords who had wronged him. He wore the crown of the Night Sentinels, and those that tasted the bite of his sword named him . . . The Doom Slayer. Tempered by the fires of hell, his iron will remained steadfast through the passage that preys upon the weak - for he alone was the hell walker, the unchained predator who sought retribution in all quarters, dark and light, fire and ice, in the beginning and the end - and he hunted the slaves of doom with barbarous cruelty; for he passed through the divide as none but demon had before. And in his conquest against the blackened souls of the doomed, his prowess was shown. In his crusade, the Seraphim bestowed upon him terrible power and speed, and with his might he crushed the obsidian pillars of the Blood Temples. He set forth without pity upon the beasts of the Nine Circles. Unbreakable, incorruptible, unyielding - the Doom Slayer sought to end the dominion of the dark realm. The age of his reckoning was uncounted. The scribes carved his name deep in the tablets of hell across eons, and each battle etched terror in the hearts of the demons. They knew he would come - as he always had, as he always will - to feast on the blood of the wicked. For he alone could draw strength from his fallen foes, and ever his power grew, swift and unrelenting. None could stand before the Doom Slayer. Despair spread before him like a plague, striking fear into the shadow-dwellers, driving them to deeper and darker pits. But from the depths of the abyss rose The Great One, a champion mightier than all who had come before. The Titan of immeasurable power and ferocity. He strode upon the plain and faced the Doom Slayer - and a mighty battle was fought on the desolate plains . . . The Titan fought with the fury of the countless that had fallen at the Doom Slayer's hand, but there fell the Titan, and in his defeat the shadow horde were routed. And in his terrible rancor between worlds and through time, the Hell Walker found the Wretch-Who-Shall-Not-Be-Named, but in his heresy was loyal to his evil cause. The Wretch adorned the Doom Slayer in a mighty armor, wrought in the forges of Hell, impenetrable and unyielding. With sword and shield of adamantine strength, the Doom Slayer set to banishing all that were left unbroken by his savagery to the Void. Yet as the mighty Titan fell and dread engulfed the Armies of Doom, the Demon Priests of the Blood Temples laid a trap to capture this scourge of Hell. Insatiable - even by the vanquishing of the Great One - the Hell Walker sought prey in the tombs of the Blood Keep, and - blinded by his fervor - the lure drew him in. The Priests brought down the temple upon the Doom Slayer, and in his defeat, entombed him in the cursed sarcophagus. The mark of the Doom Slayer was burned upon his crypt - a warning to all of Hell that the terror within must never be freed. There he lies still, and ever more, in silent suffering . . .
Now that I think about it, the Doomslayer would be a great adition for MK11, just imagine it, every other character mocking him and he's response is just loading his super shotgun or BFG, or taking out his knife
Rip… And…. Tear…. All blood feeds to the beast…. The one who they truly fear…. The god of chaos…. The god of demons…. The gladiator…. The harbinger of death…. The hunger…. The lust…. Kar…. En…. Tuk….
this songs gets somehow more badass when you find out that "KAR EN TUK" is the Sentinels chanting "Rip and Tear" in their language, the story being that when doomguy first fought in their arena they shouted "Rip and Tear" even though the words meant nothing to them, because doomguy kicked that much ass. As they learnt what the words meant it changed to their own language.
I don't know if I'd say Half-Life 2 levels since the details in that game organically are insane whereas doom admittedly uses the codex approach. Still good though.@@crazypantz3492
This bossfight was incredibly weird for me because i apparently had 5 or more extra lives stacked. I kept losing HP and suddenly it was at 100% again without me doing anything.
Respect. This one slaps but my top 3 is 1. Cultist Base 2. SOS from Earth 3. Meathook (honourable mentions): 4. Bfg Division 5. The only thing they fear is you
If Mick Gordon isn't the composer for the new Doom game, i won't be buying it, Mick elevated Doom with its amazing soundtrack with the award winning Doom 2016 to Doom Eternal. Mick Gordon is Doom like Johnny Depp is Pirates through and through.
Doom eternal was my first fast shooter and i did that shit on nightmare, it was not hard. I don't know what skill issue u guys have to think that this was a hard boss, the hardest boss for me was icon of sin because I would miss all my shots because he was so far away
I played this track during my 1v1 against the Leviathan in Dead Space during my Impossible Run. Only equipped with a Plasma Cutter, so there was shitloads of ammo for me. It helped that I almost had it fully upgraded, too. Lol It felt amazing, how tensed up I was as I tried not to get hit by its graspers, shooting away at its boils like a madwoman... Then the music sync at when it started gassing the room happened, despite it being a RU-vid video... 4:54 《"NO, NO, NO! It's letting out its reserves!"》 I remember Cross saying... Made me legit freeze IRL for a second and almost panic. But I beat that monster's ass and threw it out the airlock all the same! It felt special to me that time - all because I was taking it so much more seriously.
@glue3850 It's been one of my favorite boss tracks in general, to be blunt. Nowadays, I think of it as a de facto theme for whenever X, a New God protagonist, or a Siren protagonist ever go up against someone of the same caliber: a New God or a Siren. "If your blood is spilled here..." "Don't tell me what I already know, old man. Show me what I _don't know yet."_ "Very well! I shall let your hubris become your death, X." 《Summoning rites》 "You again? [Chuckles] Didn't you die back at that city that got nuked? We railgunned your body!" *_[ROAR!]_* "What can I say, old friend? *_I've always been hard to kill!_* HA HA!" "Then let's dance, Jenkins, you crazy bastard."
@glue3850 Both, tbh. It was something I made up based on when I was confronting the actual Gladiator in Doom Eternal. Specifically, I based that "AU snippet" off of my space fantasy, Bloodstone, on the logic that I play video games to help me brainstorm ideas anyway. It's helped me a lot in paying attention to detail, to he bluntly honest!
It just dawned on me but isn't this song a waltz? I don't have a ton of experience or ear training but at least the first phase sounds like it's in triple time, if that's so then that means you're literally having a dance off with the gladiator
Imagine being the undefeated champion of the arena for generations, watching armies fall to your hand. Then one green dude comes in and the entire audience starts chanting his theme song.
The Kar En Tuk chanting sounds like other countries cheering on their supported side. Appropriate to it’s origin, the song gives off a sense of determination vs brute strength.
When I first fought the gladiator I was stoned out of my mind with enhanced headphones on that made for a heart racing high intensity battle with this song just rattling my ears. The electronic sounds really synchronized with my high
Hey, remember that one Hellknight you didn't kill in Doom II? Yeah he's back and he's pissed. Don't worry, he'll be wondering why he didn't retire to a log cabin in Hell soon enough.
This would make a pretty good rally song for any high school or college with a marauder as a mascot. would also make for interesting football uniforms too.
this is the first piece of music that comes to my mind when I think of really violent unstoppable anger like if a bully insulted your dead grandma or something
I remember fighting this boss easily 50 times over to train myself for doing it on Ultra-Nightmare. The practice paid off, ended up beating him on my first try.
@@TheFlyingslug currently practicing for UN. Im just playing the levels over and over again. The furthest i got with no real practice was SGN. Pretty decent ig but where i want to be.
