@John Doe yup. The sentinels. They are the ones Doomguy met in hell after Doom 64. They trained him up and gave him extreme power. They unfortunately fell under the hell priests. There was a civil war and the civilization fell
@@Tortilla_Pizzeria_Pixels The Sentinels didn't enhance Doom Guy's power to the god like levels we know, the Seraphim did, betraying the Maykrs in doing so.
@@Tortilla_Pizzeria_Pixels No bother, the Sentinels have powers of their own, granted by the Wraiths from the worlds spear, but Doom guy was never granted these. He was as dangerous in battle as the best Knights Sentinel despite having no Wraith powers. But after being put in the Divinity Machine, he could take out even the most powerful Titan single handed.
Indeed, much like Argent D'Nur itself. It was once a proud and mighty civilization, forged in righteous battle and unyielding tradition, with hundreds of other worlds flourishing under its guidance and protection. Now, it is but a shadow of its former glory. The Night Sentinels, once an order of holy warriors that might've broken the power of Hell forever-if not for the betrayal-are scattered remnants, loyal either to the spirit of King Novik or the Khan Makyr. The great city of Exultia and the capital of Taras Nabad are little more than ruins now, populated only by ghosts and stray demons. The holy arena of Sentinel Prime, once a place for prisoners to reclaim their honor and for prospective Sentinels to earn their spurs, now only serves to provide the Hell Priests with blood sport for their twisted and perverse entertainment. The Wraiths-the Firstborn emerged from the womb of the world to guide and embolden the Argenta people-are gone, killed in mercy by the Great Slayer to deny Hell their power and end their eons of torment. The myriad worlds under the stewardship of the Night Sentinels have either been abandoned or consumed by Hell. No wonder the Slayer hates the demons and the Makyrs so much, after what they've done to his adopted homeworld and people. All he has left is to avenge his fallen brothers and ruined civilization and to save the people of Earth from meeting the same fate.
So haunting and mysterious it reminds of a cloudy day or a foggy or misty morning or better yet a snowy day the more I listen to it, it gets kind of sad
I envision quite the opposite (specifically from 12:10 - 12:20. So fucking beautiful). This track reminds me rather of something fiery, of a suffering crowd within the cages of Nekravol DOOMed into Eternal torment, of hell itself. Not sadness, but the manifestation of hopelessness.
This! Exactly this! I'm playing through Eternal for the first time (I know I know), and I had stop everything when I heard this, to take a moment to let the music in, and to find some kind of confirmation that this is Signs of Evil, my absolute favorite OG Doom song too. Thanks!
As a lover of Sign of Evil, this sounds way closer to Aubrey Hodges' Breath of Horror from Playstation Doom in my opinion... Just a drum beat instead of baby cries, hell even some of the moan like chants are in the same rhythm of the Demon groans in that track.
That's the best part is that it takes huge influence on Sign of evil, Mick gordan did an incredible job in incorporating the original doom soundtracks, and making them fit with the modern Doom franchise, likely do that old school Doom gamers can get a huge sense of nostalgia.
WOW i like your idea! I didnt even think about that. it would really male you feel more like the doom guy we first heard about in the dogma narrations right? "scavanging the umbrel plains" like raging as a nomad! way more how I imagined doom before actually seeing. Nice.
once a holy place bless by the maykr angel and their herald night sentinel who make this place then.corrupted twisted by the hell war and the curse pact deal with the demon and the maykr. pity on the maykr
I see this as representing the horror the supporters of the Makyrs felt, as they realized, far too late, they were little more than a means to an end for their supposed Gods, ashamed of how they had forsaken all they, once proud and mighty warriors, stood for. And that makes their chants to the slayer during the gladiator fight all the more epic. They aren't just telling you to kill the demons, they're begging you to forgive them, to avenge them, to ensure earth does not fall as low as them.
This song screams of survivor's guilt A man out of time who couldn't have a good life due to what hell did to him trying to make a difference Even being a god amongst mortals trapped in hell seeing his fellow knight sentinels fell as they fought to death after being betrayed by the preists no one stood against the hordes but the doom slayer as he came back seeing once a great place now in shambles Like he saw daisy when he came back to earth A living nightmare who follow you like a shadow No matter how much you try to fight or try to kill it it's latched onto you you're fated to it the ruin chases you like a moth chases fire to its death Demon chase you like a nightmare They bring chaos, ruin, destruction and impend doom You're the doom slayer you slay them There's no hope, no happy ending, way ticket home or any grand prize You're the Atlas cursed to keep earth on shoulders you are DOOM
Man, this thing hits hard, like something you have embraced and have embraced you...changed and betrayed you and itself. Don't forget the Sign of Evil vibes too. Mick is definitely a musical genius.
It's actually an updated E1M8 (Sign Of Evil) track... Another fun fact, Sentinel Prime is also the 8th level in Eternal, and both of them are boss levels...
So I have heard. By saying "not doom-like" I had in mind the powerful industrial metal we usually hear during Doom 2016 and Doom Eternal. I enjoy the enigmatic, slower-paced, story driven moments based around the ancient Sentinel Prime in Doom Eternal. Btw I'd love to hear the original track from the first Doom, perhaps you could provide me with name or a link, king?
"and this, is this what you wanted, all this pain and sorrow, all these broken souls and anguished foes who fell on your conquest to victory? or is this just the middle phase of your fucking stupid plan?" thought of this myself, i think
I love the fact it's a great modernized version of Sign of Evil. It fits what happened to the Sentinels and how hellish and deceitful the betrayal was. I feel bad for the lads.
So simple yet hauntingly beautiful. It has a very eastern sound to it yet it's also alien, a perfect fit for exploring the homeworld of an ancient extraterrestrial human civilization. Anybody know what the stringed instrument is at 4:00 - 4:30? And what notes is it playing?
This sounds like what would play if you found a legendary ancient city though to be a fake and a story but it is real but it’s fallen like a titan and nothing but a skeleton of it’s former self.
Back then when my and my brothers used to play with Lego’s We made up a story It was called Dragonite The main character was Toby and the Ally that used to be his enemy, droid We had this one part were the main character finds different versions of him There was the insanely smart version And the Insanely powerful version The droid in the insanely powerful version of Toby killed everyone Toby loved His friends, his family, his children What was wrong with my mind back then 😳
I know alot of people are drawing parallels with Sign of Evil with that main instrument going off, but honestly thats the ONLY part of the track that sounds like it. The real track this is pulled from most people likely haven't heard hence why they aren't recognizing it. This is clearly Breath of Horror from the PlayStation version of Doom, all the beats are there even down to the chanting moan (just human chanting instead of demon chanting) Seriously, go listen to all three tracks together and still tell me this is Sign of Evil.
OG DooM fans know this beautiful sound already…it pays Homage to the Original Demon Baron of Hell and the boss in the area is a exact image of the Demon the slayer once hunted before the Demons we see in the game now…we first see it and this sound on E1M8
And when Khan Maykr told him she’ll give him back what he lost and all his pain will go away. But he choose to save us. My heart broke. Toss us into garbage bin and be happy sweetheart! 😭
He did not get his will to persevere from the divinity machine His will to persevere to protect Earth came from the sorrow and pain he feels, how he feels responsible for the Fall of Argent Dnur. He lost one home, he will not lose another.
Mauricio Alvarado yeah. Most of the boss fights didn’t really do it for me, honestly think that’s my main gripe with it. There’s a lot you can do with a boss fight in a doom game but it just kind of comes down to shooting stuff until it dies
Comico _ so do you prefer doom 2016 story? Because this game did everything in doom 2016 but much better.i do feel like the bosses are always hordes of demons and not duel like fight but i think that is better for the game's theme its insanity a billion demons vs one legendary slayer. But that is my opinion if you didn't like it then i am sorry that you feel about it that way.
@@the_mse honestly i dunno. i do prefer eternal to 2016, the combat is absolutely phenomenal and everything but i didn't really like the bosses. The only one that really recaptured the kind of fights from 2016 was the gladiator fight, and while I'm happy they experimented with different kinds of boss fights I can't help but miss how they were in the last game. Honestly might be the ending for me that I dislike, doom 2016 had a fucking sick ending with a final boss fight i really liked where as doom eternal had a kind of meh ending. The icon of sin was just an okay boss fight for me (not to mention the music was kind of shitty compared to everything else in the game).
Comico _ the ending to doom eternal i agree that it was a meh but the boss fight was better than mastermind's (in my opinion) the music was sick tho I don't agree with you i mean have you listened to meathook/ the only thing they is you/main menu theme at eternal's gate
