@@ivanlagrana878 I'd recommend you to check out the open letter posted by Marty Stratton on r/Doom addressing the Mick controversy. Here's the rough story : ° Mick was given a deadline which he couldn't meet. ° Mick asked for a 4 week extension but was given a 6 week one, yethe still couldn't supply the finished soundtrack. (Many countries, like Australia, are very finicky about things like promising a product, which in this case was the soundtrack with the deluxe edition of DE, and not delivering it) ° id software sees that it's out of options as they only have 12 tracks fully mixed by Mick. °id software decides to use the lower fidelity audio files given by Mick to use in-game and tasks the Lead Audio Engineer - Chad Mossholder to finish the album ° Essentially other than the 12 songs mixed by Mick, the entire album was basically a gamerip. One thing that I personally didn't like was that people were really going at Chad for "ruining" Mick's mix (despite the fact that the guy didn't have the raw audio files to begin with) and Mick didn't say a word to shield the guy from any backlash. He kept bashing id software and bethesda (which turned out to not be involved after all) and provided no clarification on his behalf. I still love his music but all in all this whole incident made Mick seem quite unprofessional in my opinion. EDIT : fixed the point about the 4 month extension ( it was supposed to be 6 weeks, while Mick asked for 4)
@@5udimax Quite frankly, I agree. I really believe that not many people saw Hugo Martin's reddit post explain the entire situation, and therefore many people blame Bethesda and not Mick for the controversy
Andrew has really gone down the fast way I mean took at his progress. RoTT remake -> IDKFA (OG Doom Remake OST) -> Dusk - > That Quake Game ->Amid Evil -> Wrath. And now he's doing the big Doom Eternal. If there's ever been a man who's worked for and deserved this it's Andrew Hulshult who's put out nothing but Bangers. He hasn't left his can in years. That's dedication. Eternal dedication.
@JohnnyTheWolf Agreed. I much prefer Hulshult to Gordon, and he's proven himself to do well with FPS soundtracks on multiple occasions so as long as he isn't too restricted to copying Gordon's style I think might be an improvement.
@JohnnyTheWolf probably, but Hulshult has made a name for himself, and that is important, it means both that id can trust him, and also that his name can help sell the game even more.
There really were only two sure-fire successors to Gordon - Hulshult or Reznor. Whilst part of me is sad we still didn't get DOOM-by-Reznor OST I've been dreaming of since the DOOM 3 hype days, I'm super-pumped to hear what Hulshult and Levy have been cooking. This is excellent!
@The Slayer Is here Boi Well, to be fair on Petersen, he built about half of DOOM II maps and did it less than a year. Kinda makes the Chasm forgivable.
he did the soundtrack to dusk, quake champions, prodeus, brutal doom, (which is the idkfa soundtrack) rise of the triad, amid evil, and a couple others. so hes been doing this for a long time, but id is definitely the biggest cooperation he has ever worked for.
I had a grin on my face the whole time I listened to both your and David's tracks last night when you guys tweeted about it. I like how I can just listen to yours and be like "Yep, that's Andrew Hulshult." You got a signature sound/style that I really really love. I never heard of David Levy before but holy cow those synths are pure evil. Really excited to hear the full tracks in game on release day!
Andrew, I've been following you for years but never commented on any videos. I just want to say that your music is incredible and it has helped me in my countless art sessions, keeping me focused and (mentally) headbanging! Bought Dusk partly because the game looked cool, but also because you did such an amazing job on its soundtrack, and I cannot wait to hear the full Ancient Gods OST.
I am actually so happy that Andrew was chosen for this role. Utterly in love with his style. Looking forward to him enriching Doom's music with his own vision.
@@itsQuilow It's pretty subjective - but Andrew is amazing as what he does. Andrew's music is more straight metal. Not as innovative, but will work amazingly well for a game soundtrack.
@@mattschemmer3091 I mean you can't beat Mick Gordon in industrial demonic metal thing, but you can make evne better music for doom by doing something else. One thing is 100%: Andrew gonna make our necks hurt soon
Everyone's talking about about how he's the perfect replacement (And he totally is), but holy shit no one's talking about that down-picking speed at 0:06
Ok so, imagine with the boss fight with the dark one, they somehow are able to get Mick Gordon to collab with David and Andrew for the last song on the soundtrack and it be named “I am eternal.” Most likely will not happen, but, imagine if it happened. That would be pretty kick ass.
I’m so stoked they chose you, dude! I’ve followed your work for a long time, and I believe that you worked hard to get here and totally deserve it! Can’t wait for more!
The Community :- "We will watch your career with great interest" Seriously tho..Andrew got a huge shoes to fill. Not many realize that the soundtrack plays a huge role and props for ID for taking in Andrew.
This is awesome! Going to miss Mick's wacky sound, but this feels more to the side of 2016's OST which is in no way a bad thing, and Levy seems to be going the wacky route a little bit so it's a welcome balance in my opinion. You rock!
People who say your work in DOOM Eternal Ancient Gods is no good, simply doesn't enjoy metal music. Your work in DOOM Eternal Ancient Gods, is fantastic! Can't wait for part 2!🤘
Dude when I heard Mick wasn’t returning, you’re the first person that came to mind as a replacement. So happy to see you’re behind the scenes on this one now!
To be honest it feels a lot better to have some new composers for dooms music because of what they could bring to the table with their styles. Especially with Andrew and his music which is a lot heavier and sounds more metal.
Awesome. Sounds like that part of "Super Gore Nest" that was cut out of the OST release, but can be hear in-game and in that one trailer showing off the skins.
I knew the day would be come... It was about time... Congratulations!! You deserve it!!! Now it is time for a nice and kick ass Doom ost that we all wanted!!
Mick: against all the evil Bethesda can conjure, all the interference against my soundtrack, I shall send unto them, only you. Rip and tear, hulshult, until it is done.
@@ibrahimdafalla6695 I was gonna say haha. As much as I loved Mick's work. He's the one who even though was given extensive time to finish...he didn't finish.
@@admech590 Mick had asked for 4 weeks extension, ID gave him 6 weeks extension. It wasn't like ID wasn't being accommodating, but deadlines are deadlines...
I don't think that was really an issue for most people though because he brought a unique sound compared to most game soundtracks that would probably just do generic ass electronica/dubstep especially since he made some of the most primal sounding music befitting of this new generation of Doom. But yes this is honestly more akin to old school ass Doom/Quake which I'm 100% for either way.
Now THIS is what a modern DOOM soundtrack should sound like. Heavy impact, but not too complicated to where you can't pick out single instruments. And there is some real discernable melody! I CAN ACTUALLY HUM THIS. Good stuff dude, you the man.
I'm honestly glad Andrew's working with Id and on the Doom DLC's. When I first heard of Doom (2016) I was a bit bummed out when I found out they chose Mick and not Andrew. Don't get me wrong, I love Mick's music, BFG Division and The Only Thing(...) are my favorite tracks from any videogames, but at the time I was more familiar with Andrew's IDKFA project. You honestly deserve any role/chance you get in these games, my dude
god i cannot wait until ID gives him like 2 months to do the soundtrack and he cant do it and the community flips their shit on the content creator AGAIN
@@kinoman4875 Bethesda is the publisher, and publishers have a LOT of pull, way more than people think. Mick is a professional perfectionist that was rushed by Bethesda and, indirectly, ID. You don't rush someone like that, you just don't. Mick knew the fans wanted the quality that Doom 2016's sound track had, but he wanted to excel beyond that. He tried his best, but the Publisher was riding ID's ass to get the music ready and to ship out the collectors copy of the game. Publisher's want quantity over quality, and developers have to work around that. No wonder there's so many indie titles, eh?
@@TheJonesChannel11 that and the fact that mick was opted into a contract with basically no negotiation besides "delay it for a month" he had a hell of an undertaking, mixing 58 songs in 3 months compared to 2016s 36 in 6-7 months
@@TheJonesChannel11 no, mick overestimated how much he could’ve done in a few months and because of that he needed to delay, on top of the delay he needed more time to remix the music which would take way too long to release and would land id into some legal problems. It isn’t because “piblishers want quantity over quality”
Doom fanbase : Mick Gordon got Doom's music perfectly, it will be impossible to find someone to replace him. ID Software : *recruits Andrew Hulshult* Doom fanbase : I have never been so wrong in all my life...
