Men, i've been ripping weapons for doom for so many years and didn't knew that colour range thing (usually used magic eraser with 24 tolerance and deleted cyan background, gonna test it later, just for curiosity)
while i think think this is a great tutorial, i wanted to warn everyone of something: do NOT download any of the files from the description. I downloaded the HUD reference and got a virus. find another way to get the sizing right.
As long as you’re careful not to click any of the advertising links, you should be able to get safely to the actual file. But if you have slade it’s probably easier just to rip it
You can also do that! Either or will work. I guess for me, it feels like you have more control over the edges of the picture if you do it when it's small.
Is there some way to speed up the process and not have to do this for each sprite? I could Imagine this taking a lot of time when making things with lots of sprites
great tutorial....my question is, I use a different program: pmotion, is there a way to have the doom palette there? I mean: is a file that I have to load or I can create myself the palette? thank you!
Raul Gubert Hello Raul! The palette is a file you can load, yes. You can try the photoshop version in the video description or the palette on the ‘Doom Spriting Tutorial’ for GIMP video that’s on my channel too (it’s an older one)
Hey! Just saw this comment ;) So the image size does relate to how it looks on Doom. Basically it needs to be a correct size, or else, if for example you use a HUGE gun image, it will cover the whole screen! No bueno! :)
How did you get the original doom sprites in photoshop (when you used it to compare the size of the sprites) All I really want to do with custom sprites right now is alter the originals.
GRiMOSAUR Was going on! For that you open Slade and then the wad you want (doom, doom2, etc) to have access to all the files. You scroll down until you find the marker "s_start", that's when you should find the weapon sprites. When you select the one you want, right click and select something like "picture - export to png". Bam!
Thank you for the video! Recently,I started to get interested on creating a WAD,and started looking for tutorials about. Still need to find how to create new monsters (what size sprites must be),need to know more of that palettemap and how sounds on Doom must be (if .wav or .ogg,rate...)
Howdy! I think for the sprite sizes just export some monsters and check them out for reference. As for the sound files, usually mp3 is the way to go! bitrate would really depend on how high wuality you want them.

Hello Varjostin! I see you have a line that goes 'Actor Clip:'... try deleting 'Actor' and just leaving 'Clip:'. When you create a new state you just need to put the name :)

DESCRIPTION OF THE MISSION + THE DIALOGUES (for a Duke Nukem mod\map) THE ''PIG LADY'' HOTEL On Venus there is a hotel. You land on a huge deserted the parking lot. No-one around. You can find a bike parked just outside the hotel in front of the entrance. It seems deserted, no receptionist or other pesonnel. You will need the bike as you discover that it is a huge hotel with an enormous hall and the corridors are very wide. The rooms can have different sizes, the biggest are huge luxury rooms, conference rooms etc... For the majority of the corridors and rooms you can use the bike as they are quite big; sometimes, though, you have to get off the bike and walk. You can shoot from the bike. To change floors you can use a lift or ramps (both are fine for the bike). Your mission is to rescue the people that have been kidnapped by evil creatures. Those poor people usually are inside the rooms but can be also around the corridors of the hotel. Be careful as along the long corridors there are wires with the intent of cutting your head off; disable those wires just by shooting on the walls where they are attached (just one side is enough). Part of the hotel is under construction so there are naked pillars, holes, missing floors,and many obstacles and you can use the bike to jump. Those people are scared and have no idea why they got kidnapped, why they are there. Once you reach one of them, you have to call the special forces, they will come and take away the survivor; It takes a few minutes for the special forces to arrive so you have to protect the survivor from any attack. Reach the top floor where you will discover many dead bodies half eaten by an ugly fat woman that does not move but has tentacles to grab the poor people to eat. You have to kill the ''Pig lady'' , but be carefull to her long tentacles, she wants to eat you alive! What the mod\map needs: Graphics: The new sprite for the fat pig lady with tentacles, the sprites of the kidnapped civilians. Sounds Effects for the lady pig: sounds of the tentacles, sound when she is eating, sound of her burps; The lady will repeat constantly those 4 sentences in random order. 1 ''I need a man like you, come into my belly!'' 2 ''I love people so much, bring me some!'' 3 ''I am your lady pig!'' 4 ''I'll pig you from your inside!'' The dialogues is better if it is voiced, The lower the resolution of the sample the better, use some echo or trembling effect to give a sense of crazyness, eerieness. KIDNAPPED PEOPLE (written or voiced): MEB Meb: ''oh...my God, I...I...please...I..are you here to save me?'' You: ''I am here to bring you home, are you alone?'' Meb: ''oh, my thank you! thank you!!
