I’m 20 years old and I will listen to Mike Joy and Dale Jr and any older gentleman related to racing before I listen to anyone close to my generation. They’ve watched the sport become what it has become and we don’t have the older generation showing these young kids the etiquette of racing. NASCAR especially created their own problem by not having the young guns race against the veterans because they’re sometimes overly aggressive and then throw hissy fits when it’s thrown right back on them. I’m glad someone called them out because it’s about time that someone said something.

Mike Joy is the last of the old school announcers. I once saw him in person and his voice is the same. But he really is the last of the real race announcers...Jr is coming up and Burton is great. Gordon is good and actually Waltrip was a good. Kevin Harvick still helps build his cars. But Dirty Mo...great interviews. And Noah is like a young Harvick, he needs an attitude check. "But someone believed in them." and Mike Joy is awesome. The gray he has matches my gray and I've been listening to him for 30 years. I wished Dr. Punch was still here.

It's always been the case that to be a success in racing required sacrifice by a hungry, determined driver willing to spend his time, money and effort right up to the point of reaching the top tier. That's what has separated race drivers from the stick and ball sports. And why race drivers seldom found themselves in trouble with the law or society at large. Stick and ball athletes are shielded from the consequences of their actions as soon as they exhibit exceptional potential. Signing young drivers in a similar way is going to produce similar results.
@Andrewlang90
@Andrewlang90 3 года назад
They sign kids to offer sheets to Div 1 schools when they are 13, same with young kids to deals for Premierships in England. It’s crazy, and it ruins kids. Stop thinking this kid will be the next this or that, just let them be a kid. If they reach that pinnacle level, great. If not, then they aren’t saddled with the guilt of not being what was expected of him.

Its not a Nascar issue. Its a generational issue. Many young people are raised with a complete sense of entitlement. Yes, that has always existed as well but it has gone from the exemption to becoming the rule. The simple fact that people are going after Mike for this proves it even more. People just dont want to admit that todays generation acts like a bunch of spoiled children that demand respect while giving none. BTW Im not blaming the kids. They didnt raise themselves. Parents need to take a hard look in the mirror.

Just my opinion about how to get the no name drivers into good cars is to set up a fund that everyone in the system has to put a percentage of there pay into much like a retirement fund (that is properly managed) and then every year there is a board that meets that gets suggested drivers and that big group of drivers goes and tests cars until it’s dwindled down to a smaller & smaller group until there is one or two left for a given ride? Just a thought?

Money buys rides. Lots of rich pro late teams have 10 times the budget of the average racer. They don't give a damn who they wreck. They have no fear and don't feel they have to earn respect. 14 yr olds bumping to win at all costs like its the Daytona 500. "Its just hard racing" "I didn't see it" "I was being held up" "I race the way I'm raced" All this at 14 -18 yrs of age. Daddy's are often the instigators. If they get wrecked, they just go get another race car. The reality is, most finally call it quits after 400 - 600 grand is spent over a couple seasons. But in the process, they've wrecked teams that have to call it quits after just half a season because they are torn up by these same teams, over and over after a big pile up. And people wonder why car counts have seen in steady decline over the past decade at most Saturday night tracks let alone big invitationals. 🙄 Mike Joy knows what he's talking about. He's been there, done that.

@davidfstanford
@davidfstanford 3 года назад
Exactly. There is so much money in Super Late Model racing. When they got rid of the regional Late Model Nascar series, they killed the ladder to the top for anyone who doesn't have money. There are very few parts from a SLM that can be used on an ARCA type car. It's starting over for double the cost and 1/3 to 1/2 of the races to move to the next level. Now there is a bottle neck at the SLM level of people that can't afford to move up.
@DougHanchard
@DougHanchard 3 года назад
@@davidfstanford Humpy Wheeler nailed it a few years ago on a Facebook post; ARCA cars should have the following rules; • Series Shock rule with ARCA impoundment • No bumpstops + 5.5" big spring at all 4 corners • Camshaft lift rule (.485) • Cylinderhead rule + 9:1 compression ratio • Impounded stock carburetor • ex-Nationwide cars at increased weight (4,200 lbs)

I'll say the same thing I said last time this was discussed. If you want drivers to have that maturity & respect before they enter the top levels then you need to be advocating for major structural changes. Namely imposed age restrictions, no-one in trucks under 20yo, no-one in xfinity under 25yo, and no-one in cup under 30yo. It's not possible to behave like a 30yo driver who's spent the past 10-15 years saying and doing the stupid things in their late teens & early 20's at races that aren't nationally broadcast, when you're in cup at age 20.

Are things that Noah has said any worst than what Kyle Busch said earlier in his career? To this day I will never be a fan of Kyle and under no circumstance will I ever pull for him. I once felt that way about his brother but Kurt admitted his attitude was wrong and that he made mistakes and he is a better man for it. Kyle has changed a little probably because of being married and having the responsibility of raising children. But until he confesses his mistakes and owns up to them I can not be a Kyle fan. I don't understand why their team owners don't have a word of prayer with these young drivers. Surely they should be able to control some of these bad behaviors!
@Draven_Michael

I mean Mike of course knows there are funded drivers. But the thing is, most drivers get funding from parents up to a certain point if their careers. Then you have the guys that can get the best equipment in the trucks and Xfinity series because of Daddy’s money. Guys like Noah and Riley Herbst haven’t had to work for any drive they have gotten because Daddy always pays for it.

Like the gentleman before me said" seeing Mike Joy in a t-shirt is weird... Seeing Mike Joy in his raceday suit is a class act.... He will be greatly missed when he does retire some day... Just when Ken Squires,, Ned Jarrett,, Darrall Waltrip,, Benny Parsons and great announcers have retired.... All have been missed.., Mr. Joy...... You are greatly appreciated

Brad Keselowski couldn't shut his mouth right from the start. Ryan Newman loved criticizing his own teammate fairly early in NASCAR.. Maybe it's an ownership issue.
