Door Window Install on Triumph TR4 - WEGS GARAGE

Time for another attempt at installing our DOOR WINDOWS! This time we are prepared, with TR4 glass from The Roadster Factory. This glass is identical to the original glass. Will our DIY install be a snap? Or will another problem rear its ugly head? Find out this week on WEGS GARAGE!
More common TR6 windows are often sold by suppliers for the TR4. Do not be fooled! The TR6 glass will not fit properly due to different dimensions. The real TR4 glass is available - we ordered ours from The Roadster Factory.
This video is part of our Triumph TR4 DIY interior installation series. We are installing a Moss Motors honey tan carpet kit in our Triumph TR4. The underfelt is the synthetic jute kit from The Roadster Factory. Instructions for the TR4 interior kits are difficult to find. Hopefully this video is helpful for anyone out there attempting a similar project. Many components are similar between Triumph TR3, TR4, TR4A, TR5, TR250, TR6, Spitfire, and many other British cars.

Great tutorial on window install and adjustment. I continue to be impressed with how beautifully designed and made this little beauty is

The regulator mechanism is so fascinating. Sometimes I roll it up and down just to enjoy the simple mechanical beauty of the thing.

I continue to enjoy your series, went through many of the same things on my 66 TR4A. One note on the water curtains, the rear one keeps water out of the door latch mechanism. So might be worth reconsidering it if you ever have the doors back apart (and actually drive in the wet).

Thanks for watching, Darrell! Very good point on the rear water curtain. The original ones must have done a good job protecting the mechanism since they still work great.

there is a bit of angle adjustment on the windshield posts. you probably need to wait for the hood (roof) install to be able to do final set up.

Yeah not sure I am looking forward to adding that additional variable of the hood. We will find out soon!

It's coming along nicely (pinched palms from gripping your pliers unwisely notwithstanding). I'd hold off on the door panels until the seats and the rest of the interior is in. Less chance of marring your new panels.

That is probably a good idea. Seems like we are always bumping against the inside of the doors. Those pliers literally had an extra serrated section to the "rear" of the hinge. Perhaps so they could be used as makeshift linesman pliers in a pinch. Or perhaps to ensure extra carnage for the unsuspecting user...

@@WegsGarage It's a small comfort, but I got that same lesson that you did years ago. And the interior is really looking great!

I have a '64 TR4 that my dad bought new. It's been in the family since then. Original Wedgewood Blue paint and wire wheels. A California car for all but the first two years so very little rust. I still drive it about once a month. Doesn't need too much restoration but I do have some pretty rattly windows. Thanks for the tips.

Glad you find it helpful! We have never done windows before, so everything was a mystery. In reality, it is a pretty simple mechanism once you see how it works. Velcro is the cure for your rattles! We made a video a few months back if you haven't seen it already.

Nice work guys, I had the same problem with the windows stop, they were so rusted that I end out drilling and tapping the holes. The felt was also hard to get back on with rivets. Not sure how I'm going to handle the plastic since I'm going to use my original windows glass which has the bottom metal track on the glass. Thanks for sharing.

Those rivets were pretty fragile on ours. One of the "wings" broke off but it still seemed to hold. As for the plastic curtains, I am not completely convinced thehy are absolutely necessary. Some plastic between the door panel and door will keep water out of the interior. The "curtains" do help protect the mechanism, but (at least for our car) it is not like these cars are driven daily, stored outside, left in the rain, etc anymore.

@@WegsGarage agree, my will probably never see rain, unless I get caught in a rain shower. Enjoy the videos and tips. Thanks...
