As a beginner. The biggest thing I have seen and mistaken OVER AND OVER again is getting an order for $8.00 a AUTOMATICALLY accepting it without even looking at anything else. Then to end up driving 9 miles down town and then 9 miles back. In that amount of time I have noticed I can do two short distance $5 orders in the same amount of time as these $8 ones I keep accepting just because of the high number at once.

@@colesisler582 i make 20/hour as well. I get 2 deliveries/hour and it's about 6 miles in total. Gas is $3 and my car runs 25mpg. That's only 72 cents of gas. At worst, depreciation+maintanence is 50 cents/mile. But in California, doordash compensates 30 cents/mile. So depreciation is only 20cents/mile. For 6 miles, that's $1.20. Total cost of driving $1.20 + $0.72=$1.92 $20 - $1.92 = $18.08/hour. Still a good pay working for doordash.

Great advice . Try to start from home if you can. Don't chase hotspots or sit in a parking lot for 30 minutes. Avoid downtown apartments / high rises . Stay in familiar neighborhoods . Goal is to hustle and make 2-3 deliveries per hour. Avoid rush hour traffic . The more you do it , the better you get at it.

i work there and we were SO relieved when corporate told us we didn't have to keep the hot box in the back with all the togo food. the only downside is now if a person comes for their food really late. it might be cold but thats not our problem🤷🏾‍♀️
@knicknevin9975
@knicknevin9975 3 года назад
@@ilubmiself Dashers don't usually waste time picking up an order. If the pickup is super late, what that probably means is that the pay/distance was just too low and no dasher wants to take the order. I noticed one day while waiting around with a couple other dashers every time one of us rejected a really bad order (10 miles and some change, and only the base pay of $3 which means there was no tip), the next person would get the same order only they would get offered like 25 cents more for it. Those orders sitting around getting cold probably had customers who didn't tip, but they're some crazy distance away, so it's bouncing around from dasher to dasher until the pay is finally good enough for someone to bite.

Im glad im not the only person whos broken down the logistics and turned dashing into a science. Pretty much learned everything you mentioned over time and through experience. The biggest thing i didnt figure out on my own was the acceptance rate doesnt matter, and cherry picking orders. Its crucial especially after they got rid of the minimum for the AR
@toshabillingsley4899
@toshabillingsley4899 Год назад
Bentley I love all of the information you are giving but here is my question. How are you getting all this information before you even accept the order . I have an Android but the only thing I can see during the the time it shows the offer is the amount of the offer and the restaurant it is at. I don't get any other details until after I already accept the orders and I only have like 20 seconds to decide if I should accept it or not so of course being new at this the anxiety is pressuring me to accept it before I miss it.
@patriotgirlusa7401
@patriotgirlusa7401 Год назад
We found out that acceptance rate DOES matter in our tiny town. If you're not Top Dasher in our town, you are on schedule, and it is NEVER busy. If you are Top Dasher, magically it's busy all the time. So, it all depends on where you live. We have less than 17k in our little town, and the towns near us in our "zone" are also small, but rural as heck, and we always get taken OUT of our zone, so that sucks too. It really all depends on where you live if you can just push that AR aside. Lucky that you can! We can cherry pick, but have to be VERY selective as to what we decide NOT to do. We usually make between $20-$30 an hour, so we're happy with that.

I’ve been DoorDashing for about 4 days now. The other problem that I have is when the customer asks for extra condiments or utensils or to check that the entire order is all there but I can’t because they seal the bag with a sticker or they staple it and I don’t want to tamper with it. Then they get upset that I didn’t go the extra mile to have some extra items for them. Ugh.
@EAL2310
@EAL2310 3 года назад
Just politely tell them that everything is sealed, and remind them that you don't prepare the food or put it in the bag. Some people are just ignorant and don't understand that we only deliver. As for condiments, just tell the restaurant workers that they text you and requested extra.

I don't always do a dollar per mile. It really depends on how far the order is but ultimately, I don't accept orders less then $5 because I assume that I'll receive another order within 10-15 mins. Another thing I factor in is how many items. If it's an order that has 8 items but the pay is $5, regardless of milage, I decline that order because I feel like they need to pay $1/item as well and it may require the catering bag. Extra hard work means extra pay.

First off, huge props for sharing the most helpful advice and real tips for DD drivers that I've seen to date! One factor I've also seen this last week is orders going to business districts or industrial areas. There's a lot of holiday parties going on and those orders have been paying out much higher than the original offer. I've been accepting most all that are within these areas with good outcomes. Had an 8.25 offer going from Toppers yesterday to an area with nothing really but factories at 10:30am. 16 pizzas ready to go and a simple drop off. The final payout was 34.80 and done at 11:10.

True and there are some people who dont know that no tip means we get paid 2 or 3 dollars, so they wait until after the delivery to tip. I have a friend who did that before I told him how doordash pay works. Still though, it's not worth it to me to gamble on that because more likely than not it's probably not going to have a hidden tip or bonus tip, and no order is worth 2, 3, or 4 dollars to me even if it's only 1 mile away

I took a Dennys order as the payout was good, did another order from another platform that took a while, then when I got there it still wasn't ready, so I went to use the restroom,which I had planned on doing. Used my time wisely, on that one, and got a good payout on both!

I just started doing DoorDash, GrubHub, and PostMates yesterday (during the same day, as I spent 6 weeks signing up for the apps, but didn't start till yesterday). The funny thing is: I already had experience from my last job where I'd go out on Lunch Break and, either, get food for everybody else or I'd get my own food and have serious delays. So, yesterday, even though I'm brand new, I declined 2 orders for Chick-fil-a. One was $4.00 and the other $6.00. Now, I have experience with Chick-fil-a during Peak Time and lemme tell ya waiting 45 minutes for the food and driving 15 minutes to the place for $4-$6 is not worth it. The other crazy time was when I waited 30 minutes at a McDonald's for 2 Big Macs - that's it. Nothing else. 5 people came in after me, got their order before me, and I was still waiting. Unfortunately, these apps don't show what they ordered in advance, because I can also confirm that for some freakin reason it ALWAYS takes longer to get a Chicken Order than any other meat order at McDonald's or Burger King. No idea why, but it seems to be 100% of the time.

Really wish DD would encourage the customer to add a tip to their order ahead of time so to entice a driver to grab it (due to high pay) instead of decline it (because it looks like it’s not going to pay enough). Now there’s been many times where I got a very generous tip after the fact, whether that be on an order that was already going to be good, or one that I begrudgingly accepted and then immediately regretted. But thankfully that tip then made it worth it after the drop off. I’ve had many customers that tipped me in cash in person, and even some of them have in the instructions a note that they will be “paying the tip in cash”. That’s pretty cool because it’s typically $5. I even had a customer say that they heard that DoorDash takes our tips, and that’s why they wanted to pay in cash. I told them that’s not true or I have at least not experienced that myself. But mostly I wish the customer would have to add the tip when they place their order because out of spite towards a cheap ass customer who doesn’t give a tip, I would immediately decline their order.
@elias197859
@elias197859 3 года назад
Right or at the very least doordash could let the customers know that drivers will only be offered $2 or $3 for the delivery if they aren't tipping. Just simply making that known would likely increase tips by a lot. Literally every person I've ever explained how doordash pay works to had no idea that the base pay is $2-$3 and that if you dont tip upfront drivers are only offered $3. Most customers that dont tip probably just dont know that it's actually objectively stupid to take no tip orders because you'll likely end up losing money or barely breaking even. I understand too if a customer wants to wait to tip until the delivery is completed so that they aren't preemptively tipping for a messed up and/or late delivery, but unfortunately if they do that they have to keep in mind that their order may take longer to be assigned a driver
@elias197859
@elias197859 3 года назад
Like seriously, how hard would it really actually be for doordash to clear up this confusion and make the experience better for both drivers and customers? Maybe half an hour to an hour to just add a little information to the app? That's all it would freaking take for this to be a non issue. Inform the customers of the base pay so that they are aware not tipping leaves us with a whopping three dollar payment. And also maybe add the option to set a tip to be paid after the delivery if the delivery is done in a timely manner without compromising the food. And then simply show the driver the post delivery tip amount. Ofcourse doordash will never do this, because if they did then (you would think lol) no one would ever accept no tip orders anymore because they know that there will be no secret tip at the end and also that the customer purposefully decided to request someone hand deliver them their food for $3. I just gotta say though, to all the people who order doordash knowing how the base pay works and they STILL dont tip: you deserve to get your food cold, late, and messed up. Screw you for being so entitled as to willingly pay someone a measley $3 to pick your food up for you and bring it straight to your doorstep. And screw you for implying your time is more important than the drivers time, because you dont feel like getting your own food so youd rather have a stranger bring it to you with basically no compensation

My acceptance rate jas gone from 48% down to 33% because I refuse orders under $6 and i decline orders that miles to drive is over $1.10 over pay and drives way oit of zone or boonies that I lose $$ on backend switching zones or driving 12 minites or more and MILES to drive back to civilization is too high and iblose my pay on back end!

I personally feel that with DD merging with CVS delivering medicine or whatever, I think that eventually there will be a certain number they are looking for based off of what we do now! With a business mind, I don't blame them if they pick and choose the ones with a lower acceptance rate to not do other platforms with the company if they don't take it serious now!
