Arcades doesnt neuter opponents creatures and you lose skulk and black tree. These creatures dont feature trample so swinging in with like 30 unblockable pretty amazing. This list didnt feel as focused on the strategy as some. Just kinda was big toughness fatties and missed important ones lime shield sphere. But where is like tireless tribe 20+ tough for 1 mana. With the lifegain why not use serra avatar. Loxodon lifechanter might only have 6 toughness but it does so much more than a 10 toughness with no abilities.
Sidar Kondo of Jumuraa + Ikra Shidiqi, the Usurper partner-commanders is another take on this, with Doran in the 99. Edit: If you don't remember it's toughness-lifelink (Ikra) and evasion for power 2- defender synergy (Kondo).
Slaughter the strong is also another good one sided board clear. It says that each player can only have 4 power total in their creatures, and they have to sacrifice the rest.
Tireless Tribe A 1/1 for W yes. Discard a card get +0/+4 until end of turn....also yes! And it is $0.20 each. Running tons of draw int his build anyway. Tireless tribe + full hand = tons of damage. Also super hard to off with burn or -1/-1 magics. The opponent risks every attack or block phase including this guy and you having a card in your hand. Discarding 1 card essentially makes it a 5/5 in combat. Two cards.....9/9. Three....you nuts.....now this be a 13/13 sucker, talking REAL BUSINESS. Seven cards.....well now its 29/29 hella big monster. Very few ways to get that type of profit for discarding a card.
Here's some other cards: sheltering Word (protection), Aegis of the Heavens, Belbe s Armor, (pumps), Foul Renewal (revival), Abzan Beastmaster, Fruit of the First Tree (draws), Magnigoth Treefolk (landwalk), plus more toughness - World Breaker, Deathless Angel, Dragonlord Dromoka, and Fendeep Summer
This deck craves an Amageddon. It's tough to Wrath with no mana on board. Also, I'd probably still run Virtus as long as I'm running Gorm, since making them lose half their life is on-plan.
Doran the siege tower was actually the first commander deck I’ve ever built, and it’s nice seeing that we both included similar, and many of the same cards
Pretty ballsy move you could do here with Tree of Perdition (or Tree of Redemption) is swap its life total with a players which, in Commander, can get pretty high and then using Assault Formation suddenly swing in with a 40+/40+ creature, on like turn 4 if all goes smoothly
This is definitely my favorite build you've done so far! Abzan for like and always a fan of the ol Treefolk. I've tried to build Doran decks in modern for fun but Commander is definitely the better home for him lol
I would have kinda expected a bit more protection/recursion for the big tree, considering how much the deck relies on that effect to make much sense at all... sure, you've got a few backup copies of that effect, but those in turn dont end up doing a whole lot while bigbosstree is around. And you're in the perfect colours for it too... Considering how cheap most of your creatures, including Doran himself, are manawise, how about Phyrexian Reclamation? Usually innocent enough to be left sitting by most opponents, can get you quite a few things back throughout a game, and you've even got a bit of lifegain if you're worried about the cost...
I have been thinking about buying one of these decks, any pros and cons I should know about? I love black, green, and white in that order. Know the strategy of magic well, so complexity shouldn't be a problem. and love the combos of commander. I almost bought the K'rrik deck immediately after I saw it but wanted to wait and ask. Do you have a deck you recommend? Also, why do you love Wayfarer's bauble so much? Sorry, that's a lot.
Farbog Revenant would also be nice in this deck. Doran doesn't actually change your creature's power, so the skulk mechanic still applies to Farbog Revenant's 1 power. Attach slagwurm armor, dodge the blockers with skulk, and swing in for 9 damage with lifelink.
Treefolk Harbinger is a good card and Timber Protector as well to make Doran indestructible, Felidar Sovereign is very good in the deck if you’re gaining life because it’s hard for opponents to get you under 40, Phyrexian Walker is a 0 mana 3/3 and Shield Sphere is a card worth considering as well... Also like Tree of Perdition and a few more defender cards, tree is good in a pod for switching one opponents life total and killing another with it. A lot of people don’t try to go the defender route, but I think it’s worth the potential for them to just be huge blockers and cards like Rolling Stones are easy enough to get down. Tower Defense I’m sure I just missed being in the video, crackdown and meekstone are all-stars of course as everyone who plays it knows. Tocatli Honor Guard also an amazing hatebear that’s a 2 mana 3/3... I’ve been playing this deck a very long time lol, it can actually be VERY competitive one v one, taking down genuine tier decks, and in a pod you’d be surprised how many times you can win just from your “janky” cards. Love love love this content :)
I also have a Doran deck but it's a bit deceptive, because it's actually a land destruction combo deck, meant to destroy all lands and then bring mine back. Catches people off guard each time
In my opinion, Unstoppable Ash would have made a great addition to this deck. Sure, the Champion a Treefolk/Warrior is a lost, but the fact every time one of your creatures gets blocked, it gets a +0/+5 on top of what it already is.
Cool deck, big fan of Abzan, and had been deciding between a Doran deck or an Anafenza deck. (you could make an Anafenza deck so I can compare the lists *wink*)
Just ordered this deck so I can try it out at my Wednesday night Commander League! I wanted to brew an Arcades deck but there's a guy there who already has one! So I want to do something a little different but I like these colors and the similar mechanic. Thanks!
Any chance of an update on this deck after LOTR last year with a whole lot more Treefolk added in to choose from just in case we wanted to possibly go Tribal? Can definitely see that this deck probably suits Doran a lot better than Treefolk Trival though? I’m just curious what might be added tk this out of what’s been released the last 4 years 🤔 Thanks for the great tech regardless!
Shalai would go quite well in here too, it'll stop a lot of direct creature removal and sac effects, and its only $2.50 to consider adding in as an upgrade
My Doran deck is not as good because 1. It’s all foil and doesn’t have access to all the cards. 2. Every spell in the deck is cmc of 2 or less...... probably not the best idea but it’s what I did.
Nice Deck Tech! For me personally Doran is one of the commanders that you see and it is immediately obvious what's gonna get played. I prefer it if a Commander has more "elaborate", not-so-obvious synergies, so this one just doesn't quite appeal to me. Great vid anyway!
@Commanders Quarters do you think you could do a break the bank episode featuring Kess Dissident Mage? I've seen a lot of success in my play groups with the combos I was just wondering if there was any way to upgrade the upgraded deck without spending 4 thousand dollars 😅
I've been brewing a similar toughness matters deck for some time but I put Doran in the 98 and partner up Ikra Shidiqi and Bruse Tarl for some insane lifegain. I reckon there are enough assault formation type effects now that you can run them in the deck instead of the command zone.
The creature has 7 toughness, but because it deals combat damage equal to its toughness, it's essentially a 7/7 while really only having less than 4 power.
Hey, could you maybe, possibly do Brawl Techs? I think it's a cool format, and i would love for it to be supported, especially by the most rapidly rising MTG channel there is!
