100% I’m glad to see more continuation of the Flamboyant themes in this one. I loved the last few releases but I fell in love with Dorian for their pairing of the absurd with absolute bang on critique.
Okay what fucks me up is this video is being shown to me as "uploaded 1 day ago" but this comment is marked "2 days ago". Doodoo tell us your time travel secrets
Imagine being such a powerful entity that you single handily reclaimed the pencil mustache and neck beard ascetic and, AND made it iconic in the lgbtq+ community
Read the SlateStarCodex post "Untitled." Your subreddit contributed to a culture that made men think they were inferior if they had trouble talking to girls, but also made them afraid to talk to girls for fear of being accused of sexual harassment. I'm autistic and in retrospect, it was just ableism with a feminist sheen.
@@jodgee2374 Wait, if you're saying it's ableism you're implying that everyone posted on that subreddit has autism? And, your view of the subreddit is so odd, why are you reducing it to just awkward guys who couldn't talk to girls? A lot of the shit on there was sexist towards women. Listen, I don't agree with super radfems either, but this stupid ass blog post justifying creepy neckbeards, isn't the solution to the issue. And, what the hell did you expect? Women have been shit on for centuries and still are harassed all the time on the internet, if your response to shitty guys getting called for being sexist weirdos in recent years makes you this pissed, imagine how women must feel.
Dorian ending Cringe Culture. The amount of references, attention to detail and late 00's cultural influence twisted in a modern way to fit our current views, its amazing. Feels like reliving my childhood through 2020 glasses, mocking and appreciating at the same time. I love it.
@@DORIANELECTRA OMG you replied! Bro I love you! I'm a straight Cis male, and when I discovered your music I didn't know what to think. I found your songs spoke to me way more than I thought they were going to, you are such an important voice in music at this time. I've got no choice but to Stan now!
@@MrMagbrant Nah. They said what they said. It's majority incels that deflect and shriek "White Knight" when they see other men not treating women as subhuman. 🤷🏻♀️
this is completely dripping with SO much satire and is SOO extensively digging into pretty much everything about the bro/edgelord/gamer guy culture its SO amazing to see it in one video. All the way from the moustache, fedora, the lyrical nods, and even fucking doritos and red keyboard color backgrounds. JUST AWWW FUCK I LOVE THIS VIDEO theres so much to say about it
Thank you for saying this, From 2 years in the future; I only looked at bits and pieces of the video, And I was so disturbed and confused, Your comment helped me understand what Dorian Electrica is trying to do, And I really love how this song sounds ^o^; So thank you for making something mentally scary and disturbing From my own quirks around how I DON'T WATCH music videos usually Less frightening by just giving me a li'l context ^o^;
Wait so they gave us TikTok elf Dorian AND Doritos simp Dorian in the same video... and looked equally stunning as both??? Nobody is doing it like Dorian Electra at this point.
I love the duality of the two songs. The first representing the way the gentleman's desire to be saw by society, with the other representing his inner desires. Love it.
is dorian one of those non binry type people? i dont understand what people have against binary, like you know video games wouldnt exist without it right .|?
I adored the references to those old videos of cutting bottles with over-the top blades like ninja swords and combat knives. I think it was... goosmurf? Either way nice callback, nailed it down to the video quality lol. Loved the song aswell 👌
God damnit dude. I wasn't the biggest fan of Dorian initially, but the more I listen and see how artistic, serious, funny, sentimental etc. their music, and by extension, Dorian is, I just can't stop vibing with it. This is the most unironically ironic lack of ironic irony and it slaps - stay excellent Dorian 🤙
@@visualsno ok but if that was an aesthetic with like bright, neon green and burnt orange with the katanas and trench coats. I think id be a part of that 😳😳😳
Thine art only drinkest thine Mountain Dew with pinky raised, thus to respect the Dew. I must Flamboyantly say, I Give Great Thanks to the Musical Genius Dorian Electra whom Lives By The Sword and always fights Man to Man like a true Career Boy. M'Lady is a true Gentleman, much like Adam & Steve, both of whom Daddy Like. I know that they be fReAkY 4 Life, with their Guyliner, but Under the Armour they are just a VIP waiting for the Jackpot. But to that I say Sorry Bro, I Love You. You are such a Femmebot and I am a Tool For You. I have a Mind Body Problem, I have Guyliner Pt. 2. Open My Eyes to the fact I am 2 Fast and Thirsty (For Love).
It's over for you, I'm sorry. You're only a few hours away from a sword collection and berating women for not having the decency of dropping their panties after you give them a backhanded compliment.
Why is everything about this so fucking accurate? I lost my shit on the 360p water jug blade test. I would literally watch shit like that for hours when I was 15. Lmfaooooo
@ You've got me thinking about the specific group of people who would take offense to that. If we fussed about where every music genre was developed on account of it supposedly being cultural appropriation, we'd live in a pretty boring world. Part of the beauty of music is how universal it is. It unifies people from all corners of the world and the fact that I've seen people genuinely try to gatekeep genres is just... very unfortunate
@@homosexualamphibian359deadass every American music genre is actually Africa if you look deep enough. So I’ve decided to stop caring and just listen to music I like.
Please never forget how much value you add to peoples lives. You quite literally allow us the option to love ourselves simply for who we are. Which is the natural order. I love you Dorian. A mind beyond times
On top of the visual aesthetics and the unique sound, Dorian's work has a MESSAGE. One thing I noticed about this song is how I was expecting the feminine character to speak in M'Lady, but no, our "gentleman" swoops in and speaks for them, taking their voice away and overshadowing whoever they may be. And that's my essay inspired by this song, ily Dorian
I feel like this is reappropriating, complimenting and insulting to white knight nice guys all at the same time. M'lady also reminds me of the old joke MMORPG stands for Many Men Online Role-Playing Girls.
The level of detail in this video is astounding. Even the crisps have "Gentleman" on them. Familiar, but in it's own world altogether at the exact same time. Myspace/Emo aesthetic mixed with appropriating toxic gamer culture I'll write more when i'm over the dissonance
all it took was this video and now im so entirely obsessed with dorian..... THE OUTFITS THEY HAVE... THE TALENT.... i may have only been a fan for one day but i stan so hard.
i play these songs several times a day. have been since it was relesed. my friends no longer speak to me because of my constant gentleman antics. m'lady she has left me but at least i have my fedoras and these songs thank you dorian
Dorian Electra is making fascinating art. This is a cultural trope that still bears dissection. There are elements of the video that are cliche, but why are they cliches? The philosophy of this individual needs to be addressed.
@@ConswaMcGaga Makes sense to me. I know a lot of trans women tried very hard to be masculine (growing beards, getting buff etc) before transition as one last ditch to deny their true self. Wearing a fedora and cargo shorts can be one way to be masculine but in a sort of confused not quite right way which tracks with how that's not really who the person is inside.
Holy smokes, did they just make a parody of the opening scene from "A Clockwork Orange" but with an aesthetic that I could only call "Neckbeard Chic"? Stanley Kubrick must be rolling in his grave, but I think Wendy Carlos might like this!
I'll never forget when zaddy D dropped their stuff and I stayed in a tent in my backyard and watched all their music videos over and over with my sis. It was nice and cold. Went out for a walk and found my neighbors were throwing out a lovely glass coffee table. We brought it home around 4am. Thank you so much for giving me real nostalgia Dorian. Your music is such a poetic reflection of LGBTQA+ feelings/experience. Peace and love 💕 If you're reading this, best of luck to whatever is going on in your life.
@@raquela8438 True, goes for most Hyperpop tho. At first an attack on your ears cuz so much goes on..But then it grows on you and you wont get bored of it unlike radio friendly music.
so many things about this video i fucking love: -how the description for their perfect lady is completely contradictory. they want a whore but they want them chaste, they want one that will fall in love with a perfect face (and when we're talking about neckbeards they basically are describing a girl who won't love them) -drinking mountain dew from the breasts of white statues, a great nod to stanley kubricks "a clockwork orange" where they did the same, except they drank milk. -i loved how "the gentleman dance" was like the easiest fucking dance ever lol, like perfect for fat neckbeards to dance to basically it was a masterclass deconstruction of the neckbeard but without being, i guess, pedantic about it? more of dorian laughing along with them instead of at them, and they capture it perfectly.
True. I didn't like the video M'Lady as much as Gentleman BECAUSE the line between satire and agreeing with the "villain" aka #toxicmasculinity is more blurred. I think it also becomes harder not to love the "villain" that Dorian protrays because Dorian is the villain and they are hot as heck and you wanna love them. And the "feminine/avatar" Dorian in the second video is harder to identify with because they are a false creation (an objectification of femininity). So I guess I agree with your points and I will give the video a second watch. Thanks for your comment. It was insightful.
@@vincentchorabik ya i love the aesthetics of this vid a lot, but like what's the message? Cuz it kinda seems like dorian is saying become the girl of your objectifying fantasies and you'll transcend being a gross neckbeard. which is obviously a bit odd lol
@@ConswaMcGaga i think the message is somewhere within the lines of how it was released (double single) and the concepts presented.. essentially that the so called chivalry of these 'gentlemen' is a double-edged sword, they present as being gentlemen but are actually very misogynistic. Some people have complained that the songs are too short and not thought out perhaps, but I think they are short on purpose because you have to listen to both of them at the same time in the same way that the 'gentleman' cannot be separated from his views of women.
@@ConswaMcGaga I think Dorian is saying there are guys who think they are "gentlemen" but I think Dorian is making fun of them for objectifying women. But I think what makes the video so uncomfortable is that Dorian is also allowing themselves to be objectified as the female character and it makes me feel uncomfortable about it as an audience member cuz Dorian is fucking hot and it makes ME feel like I'm one of the "gentlemen" for thinking they are sexy as the elf girl. This video is very different from Dorian's other videos where they ask to be objectified as a male. Here they are flipping the lens and showing us when objectification, fantasy, and desire are problematic.
Looking at Dorian fills me both with extreme depression and absolute pure joy because on one hand I am faced with the fact that I will never be able to achieve that kind of level of androgyny I so desperately crave to sate my own dysphoria but on the other hand I'm sobbing at how happy I am for them to be able to look that way.
Come now, that’s all a bit too much. I think you may be over valuing looks: do what you need to to feel right, but Dorian isn’t doing anything you can’t.
I'm truly ashamed of myself for only finding out about Dorian Electra recently, I am such a stan now. The music is so good and the videos are just immaculate, so much respect for you as and artist and I can't wait to see what you do in the future!
EPIC SONG Edit: thanks for the gold kinda stranger I didn’t expect this post to blow up! My life started growing up in a small farm in northern Kansas. My father was a farmer and my mother was a cashier in our local town down the dirt road. We didn’t have much and income was very little, my best toy I got growing up was a pig bladder blown up like a balloon that I could play around with between me and my two brothers. At the age of 11 things started getting tougher in my house life due to my fathers drinking problem as it was not a good harvest that year. Like his father before him once he was done working he would come home and drink but unlike his father he wouldn’t beat us unless we messed up, his father left him and his mother to fend for themselves after world war 2 though so he had it tougher than me growing up. One time my father did drink too much and he hit my little brother Jamey. Jamey didn’t know what to do and ran away during the night during a storm. The entire family was out looking for him but we never saw Jamey again. This made my father drink more and lead him to take his life when I was at the age of 16. My older brother and me had to completely take over the farm with the help of our mom quitting her job as a cashier, life got very hard from here on out. We got a break when I was 18 with a good harvest we were able to save up some money. I was able to move out at the age of 21 and into a larger city in Tennessee. It was hard leaving the family as my ma was getting older but my older brother completely took over the farm and even expanded it into a more profitable work. I began working in what I was good at, repairing mechanics. I was a hard worker and moved up in my chain of work easily within my town. I dated aroun’ a bit but never settled down with anyone I would write home about for my first few years. When I was 26 I got a call from my ma, my brother was working with some machinery on the farm and got his hand caught in it and heavily damaged. I had to come home and help with the farm, at the time I had attained a high position as a senior mechanic within an auto shop and sometimes worked on the side with repairing electronics. I went home and had to help with the farm for a year, ma wasn’t doing good at all. She passed the next year due to kidney disease. My brother eventually recovered and I returned to Tennessee, I attempted to return to my position but due to the time I was out I had been long replaced. I had to begin to work from the bottom again when I had a client come in, she was the most beautiful woman I ever seen in Tennessee with gorgeous brown hair. Nice to say that we hit it off pretty well, within a few weeks we were dating. I can say that she was one of the best things to have happened to me in my life. At the age of 30 I married her and my first child was on the way then. I had returned to my previous position and bought a nice house near the mountains of Tennessee. At the age of 34 my second child was born. My two kids are now both in high school, one a freshman, another a Senior. I continued my career into more electronics working on computers and fixing them. In 2013 while googling how to fix a small problem with a motherboard I found a strange site named reddit.com, this website had all the answers I needed and a community always ready to help. I’ve been on the site ever since. As you can see recently, I commented on this thread and some kind stranger gave me gold. Thank you again kind stranger!
