Welcome to my Dorian Licks for guitar jazz guitar lesson! In this tutorial I'll be showing you how to create authentic sounding dorian licks for jazz guitar.
You'll learn what the jazz dorian mode is and how the dorian scale, its chord and the dorian arpeggio are related in the first dorian guitar pattern.
I'll show you note for note, slow and easy. I play each of the dorian jazz guitar licks at regular tempo, then I'll break it all down and explain some theory where useful, and then I'll play it at slow tempo.
Dorian guitar improvisation is a necessary skill to play over jazz standards or just have fun jamming along a dorian jazz backing track. Btw, I made D dorian jazz backing tracks in four different tempi, which you can download from the link in this info box.
I've also made Dorian jazz guitar licks tabs for you to follow along easier. But I also have all the dorian licks for guitar in the video, displayed in standard music notation.
This tutorial covers the first pattern of the dorian scale. In that very pattern I'll show you how the scale and the dorian scale guitar improvisation is derived from that pattern. The Jazz dorian mode has a very bright sound for a minor mode. It is said, that it's the most "friendly" sounding of all minor scales. You will definately hear those colors in my dorian jazz licks guitar jazz.
