Can we finally have a female partner LEAD a lecture and the male ASSIST? Why always the same old patriarchal format? So retrograde. If the impulse is to reshape how Dancesport is viewed, gender roles is the great place to start (here we are already ages behind). Enough already

What about Joanna, Yulia and now Ina? They all often lead the lecture. I think you're exaggerating.

@@uxarius i meant the joint lecture format. how many lectures have you seen in which a male partner acts as an assistant to his female partner as his primary role? If I'm wrong on this point, I'll only be too happy to see my mistake, as it would suggest that the necessary changes are underway.

@@uxarius even more to the point: in this lecture, for example, Dorin is not saying or doing anything that Marina couldn't say or do. on the contrary, she's the superior dancer in their couple, so the audience really needs to hear and see her rather than Dorin. so why is he holding the mike? Ah, but we know the answer: he is a man, a member of the privileged demographic in Ballroom dancing

It's not retrograde. It's natural based on predominant socio-cultural norms in our society regarding male/female relationship dynamics in families. Sure, these norms are shifting slowly with female empowerment and that's ok generally speaking. But we shouldn't exaggerate the issue because we might arrive to the point later where the question will be asked "Can we finally have a female partner lead and male assist when dancing in the couple?!" and then demand ideally 50/50 proportion in lead/assist distribution between male and female...

@DanceAffectionist there’s so much here that I don’t know where to begin. I’ll start with this: what you are saying is exactly what keeps the mike in Dorin’s hand and not in Marina’s, the superior dancer-the primal patriarchal fear (and one doesn’t have to be a male to internalize patriarchal attitudes) that women, if given the lead, will lead and do everything else BETTER than men. That’s one. Two: I don’t mean to lecture on gender, but to say that gender roles are NATURAL is to sound uninformed. You may like, believe in, and respect them, but gender roles are not natural (no one is born with a gender role; it’s not a biological marker) but learned. It is a societal norm-a social construct-and what can be constructed can (and, if doesn’t work, should be) deconstructed. Three: what’s the evidence that lectures led by men produce better outcomes for students?
