During move in day, if my sister is helping me and we’re out of state, will she be able to stay at the dorm with me overnight, etc. Or will she have to rent a hotel? Thanks so much!
@oliviavalentino2039
@oliviavalentino2039 5 лет назад
I am not sure if she will be allowed to stay overnight on move in day. The SJU website should have the full set of rules for overnight guests though!

Hi! I’ll be going to st johns this year and moving into a junior triple in hollis and I was wondering if we are allowed to lift our beds and put our desk under it? I hope it makes more space in my room
@oliviavalentino2039
@oliviavalentino2039 5 лет назад
Sorry for my late response, but no sadly from my knowledge they won’t allow you to do that. You could message or call facilities and ask them if it’s a possibility but I’m not sure if they’ll allow it

Hello! They can have meals in the bedrooms, for example snacks, drinks, etc. Or you should always stick by the meal plan? What you would say about the international students, there’s is a fair treat for them in SJU ? I’m planing to do an internship.
@oliviavalentino2039
@oliviavalentino2039 4 года назад
Yanielis Virola You can have as many meals or snacks as you want in the dorms! If you choose the suite style dorms you do get the little kitchenette so you can prepare microwaveable meals there! There’s also a lot of vending machines on campus and most of the places on the meal plan have a to go option so you can take your food back to your dorm. There is a big community of international students at St. John’s. I can’t speak on their experience but it seems to be a good program!

I’m gonna be an incoming freshman in the fall and I just got my housing at...Dasilva. My roomie and I met on the roommate selection and we put ourselves down for a junior triple and didn’t fill out the third slot so we hope that they do not put a third person in...heehee! I’m extremely concerned about closet space bc I’m moving across the country and im planning on bringing my whole wardrobe bc I will only be back home 3 times max during the school year, any advice?

I’m so glad you enjoyed my video! So I would plan it as if you are getting a third roommate because you never know. So what I would suggest is to get storage cubes and a large three drawer organizer from target or Walmart to hold extra clothes, food, toiletries, etc. definitely get something like that to either put under your bed or in the closet to get all the storage you can!! A lot of ppl I know who go to SJU from far away will get a storage unit for themselves, that may be useful for you too! Also there’s a lot of folding hacks you can look up on Pinterest that helped me a TON like different way to fold shirts and stuff to make the most of your space! I hope I was able to help and if you have any more questions feel free to ask!
@karlamarie1188

Olivia Valentino thank you!!!!! Also I noticed that SJU doesn’t really lift/loft beds...do you know why? I feel like a higher bed will utilize the space more efficiently
@oliviavalentino2039
@oliviavalentino2039 5 лет назад
I’m not sure why they don’t loft the beds for us, but it’s very easy to do. I would definitely recommend doing that when you move in!
@jamieotoole4989
@jamieotoole4989 5 лет назад
I’m moving in next week into DaSilva I was wondering how do you loft your bed? Does St.John’s do it or should i buy bed risers?
@oliviavalentino2039
@oliviavalentino2039 5 лет назад
They won’t come and do it sadly, to loft the bed you may need a hammer. First take the mattress off the bed, then use the hammer to knock the metal frame up to the next peg of the wooden footboard and you do the same for the headboard. But just know some of the beds are kinda hard to loft so have multiple people there to help you out because it’s definitely a 3 or more person job

Hi I’m going to be living in Hollis this year.., just wondering if all of the triples have the beds laid out like this or if they will be bunk beds? Can you move them around?
@oliviavalentino2039
@oliviavalentino2039 2 года назад
Hi! So typically in a triple there will be a set of bunk beds and then one free standing bed. You can take the bunk beds apart and raise the beds and move them along with the other furniture around as much as you want!
@nikkifreda
@nikkifreda 5 лет назад
Hi! My son will be in a Jr. Triple in Hollis Hall. Is there enough room in a Jr. Triple to de-bunk the beds?
@oliviavalentino2039
@oliviavalentino2039 5 лет назад
Yes! My suite mates had a junior triple and were able to debunk their beds and keep all the furniture in the room! So it’s gonna be a squeeze but it’s possible!
@nikkifreda

Olivia Valentino thank you for your quick response! The video was helpful as well. I wish the school provided a floor plan or pictures of each of the room types! The Jr. Triple/Triple is deceiving 😂! Thanks again and good luck to you!

@ADVEN68
@ADVEN68 4 года назад
thanks for the video...we have our room assignment in Hollis...is there any way to see a floor plan of the room? it’s labeled as a “double”. but since they are only doing doubles & singles due to Covid, we really don’t know if it’s a double, triple, quad, etc...
@oliviavalentino2039
@oliviavalentino2039 4 года назад
Irene Likokas Thank you for watching!! Honestly I’m not sure, I tried to look up floor plans/blueprints of Hollis and nothing came up. When I had done my room assignment (2 years ago) they would show us the floor layout. I guess with everything going on they didn’t. Try to keep searching for the floor layout on google and hopefully you can find it to see what kind of room you got!

Noreen Kelly Hi!! Thank you for watching my video!! It means the world to me! So I actually ended up transferring out of St. John’s for several different reasons, the short version is I didn’t enjoy being there but if you want to see more of the in-depth reasons why I left I posted a video on why I’m transferring! I hope it helps!!

Thank you so much! I just finished watching your video. I’m so sorry all that happened to you and I’m happy you made the decision to switch! Rest In Peace to your grandpa, my grandma just passed a few months ago and I’m expecting to have a tough first semester because of that and, ofc, the pandemic. I’m hoping things will go well for me, but thank you for making transferring seem so normal. It doesn’t make me feel pressured to stay if I feel like I need to change. Good luck at LIM!

Noreen Kelly Thank you so much!!! My condolences to you and your family and I hope your grandma may Rest In Peace now. Things will of course be a little more difficult with all of the new regulations the school has to follow but just try to keep yourself motivated and just push yourself to do a little bit of your work everyday and you’ve got this!

Hi! I have questions about what it’s like going from Queens to like Brooklyn or Manhattan. I’ve never been to NYC so Idk what it’s like. Also, is the school strict about you having to be at your dorm on the weekends too? Thank you so much!!! :)
@oliviavalentino2039
@oliviavalentino2039 5 лет назад
Going from Queens (St. John’s more specifically) to Brooklyn or Manhattan is kind of a long commute you have to take the bus and then the subway, it’s about an hour to get there. But it’s not too bad if you’re intending to spend the whole day in Brooklyn or Manhattan. NYC is amazing, it’s unlike anywhere else. There’s so much to do and see, I personally love it. The school doesn’t really care if you’re at the dorms on the weekend, they’re just very strict on their guest policy (that’s on the SJU website). Living in Queens is super fun, just of course be safe and if you’re going out at night go out with a group of people don’t go alone. NYC is so incredible and if you come I hope you make lots of great memories!!!

How do you choose to get the single dorm
@oliviavalentino2039
@oliviavalentino2039 5 лет назад
When you’re filling out your room request you would have to look through the buildings and find the singles left, if it doesn’t say there are any they may have all filled up. But don’t worry because a lot of the time people move out of singles, so you could always transfer into a single room during the semester

@oliviavalentino2039
@oliviavalentino2039 4 года назад
Hawa Diallo It mainly depends on which dorm you choose if you have suite style dorming then the suite comes with a fridge and microwave in the little kitchenette but if you choose the jack and Jill style dorming where it’s two rooms connected by a bathroom then they don’t supply the microwave or fridge

academics ? Professors ?
@oliviavalentino2039
@oliviavalentino2039 5 лет назад
Academics really depends on the professors you get, make sure to always keep up to date. Try to make at least one friend or acquaintance in each of your classes just so you have someone to contact in case you’re absent. Freshman year is difficult because college and balancing school, social life, and work is a big adjustment. But just plan out time to study and make sure to go out and still have fun!
