That really was one nice-looking aircraft. Very serpentine (i.e. snake-like) in appearance when viewed head-on. It's short takeoff distance was impressive as well.
Advantages of having Props blow air over the wing, the middle third of the span is already developing the lift it will have once the same airspeed is reached. It also allows the aircrafts ground speed to be much slower on approach to landing.

Was door Dornier ontworpen op basis van schetsen en specificaties die door enkele Nederlandse marineofficieren waren opgesteld. Moest de opvolger van de succesvoille Dornier 'Wal' (Walvis) in Indië worden.
De Duitse Wehrmacht was niet erg onder de indruk van de prototypes en bestelde de Do24 dan ook niet... Dat veranderde toen zij in mei 1940 de productielijn van Aviolanda in Nederland in handen kregen!
