In this video we visit the Dorrigo Steam Railway And Museun in Dorrigo this place is not open to the public yet but it will open soon in the future and this is my last video from my holiday in Coffs harbour or NSW
And also a big Shoutout to the owner of the Railway/Museum for letting us have a look around at the Locomotives and Rolling Stock that were on display.
Enjoy

So there u go if u visit the museum and knock on the door keith is more than happy to spend a few minuts explaining the main objectives of the museum and showing u from a vantage point the scale of the project, great short vidio u can see that stablisation and cosmetic restoration has been happening for many years to stop the exhibits from waisting away and u also heard how obsered the local council can be which is one of the museums biggest road blocks reguarding an opening, people dont realise the red tape involved in opening a railway museum. But the battles will be won in time !

As a 16 year old on a pushbike adventure in 1977 near Teralba we wear blown away to see all theses trains inside the old Rhonda pit before they were taken to Dorrigo. Always wondered what happened to them until now. Would love the world to go back to those days but time marches on. People find it harder to volunteer these days as the bar has been set so much higher to get ahead and the system is so much more complex with so many more demands. I hope we go back to the simple life of old. People mattered. Things got done. Steam engines were a way of life.

13:20 Listening to the old fool Keith blame the local council. When in fact its his own failure and ineptiude that has meant the museum cannot open. He was given Government money to put in the required facilities but instead wasted it on more junk for his private collection.

I only learned of the story of this place a few days ago, then my RU-vid algorithm bought me to this video lol. Hearing that old bat Keith lie through his teeth in this video about everything is just palpable. He is just a proper genuine hoarder. He defended every one of his actions by blaming mainly the council and other people 😡 Absolute mug he is. The potential of that place is unbelievable! To think it has been sitting there 50yrs doing nothing. I urge anyone reading this comment while learning of this place for the first time to search up the history of this place. And then rewatch and listen to what he is saying. 100s of peices of locos and rolling stock. 100s of dismayed former volunteers who tried to make it work. 1 awesome collection. 1 man who ruined it. Let us all hope it falls to a group of caring individuals in the future. Not a loaner who wanted the biggest train set.

Like many others I've always wanted to visit the Dorrigo 'museum'. Great video (shame about the sound in some parts ). Amazing how good a condition everything is in. Know how hard it is to get volunteers and funding - I'm with the Beaufort Restoration Group in Brisbane and we face the same dilemmas - our 'fun' with paperwork and bureaucracy hasn't stated yet. Maybe the government will make it a condition of receiving the dole that you work for voluntary organizations that are preserving our heritage.

ken weeks, not really a good idea. some people on the dole really can't be trusted to be responsible. i was on such a scheme building what is now a public park. among those who were unemployed through no fault of their own and people who could not do their job because they lost their driver's licence, there were professional bludgers who, amongst other things, attempted fraudulent compo claims, sabotaged equipment so working was not possible and undertook all manner of obstructive behaviour. some of us built the park while some wouldn't work in an iron lung.

@kramvonatik8084 3 года назад
The collection is so large now, only one third can fit under the proposed shed. Two thirds left to disintegrate slowly in the weather. So buying more items "to save them" will only lead to their eventual destruction; the hypocrisy is rampant.
@125sloth
@125sloth 3 года назад
Not so fabulous when you see it close up rotting and rusting. And if you spend money to save "everything" in this case, there is no money left to build infrastructure such as a car park, toilets, etc. to even open up the silly museum. Buying doubles and triples is stupid. And it all sits out in the weather to rot. Not a very good business practice I would suggest. Another issue is that it is other people's money being spent. The community in general wanted the bloody museum up and running decades ago, but sadly that will probably never happen in our lifetimes. And so many people stick up for Keith Jones and his "museum". Jesus has anyone been to operating rail museums in Australia, or even the UK and seen how rail museums are run there? Dorrigo is a basket case. Operating museums only have doubles and triples , or even quadriples of rolling stock there to actually make up trains, not to sit and rust, or to "save them all".They do not have multiples of the same locomotives rotting in the elements. And how long can a shed be allegedly"proposed"? I have never observed such misleading bullshit and incompetence in any "organisation" in my life. There should be a government inquiry into how it all got to the stage it has.

The first 2 locos you shot were ROD 2 8 0s They were a Robinson design built for the Great Central Railway in the UK. Not to sure how many were brought over to Aus built they worked on the Richmond Vale railway . The other class you mentioned 1913 is actually a 19 class loco and I think they were known as A class locos. If you type Early Darling Harbour steam in RU-vid there is some sensational footage of them working in darling harbour in Sydney. Love your video. If I won lotto I would love to see the loco restored or at minimum cosmetically restored and on display. A few aircraft hangers would be needed. Despite many negative comments about the "museum" the reality is that the majority of the collection will never see restoration, millions of dollars will be needed, and where will this money come from? The opening of the branch line from the museum would be a bonus to get tourist steam trip running and thus provide some income. Despite many people deriding Keith, I found him to be a man with vision and his heart is in the right place, but many issues have plagued the Dorrigo group over the years and thus giving the place a bad name and negative (balanced?) publicity from the media, especially ABC-TV.

Collection without Conservation. It takes around 5 to 10 years or about 20,000 hours to restore ONE steam loco to working order. That equates to Hundreds of Years of restoration for this fleet; so most of it will turn to dust before then - See it while you can. The philosophy of the management is seriously flawed. If DSRM would release a loco & some coaches to Glenreagh, at least then something would be restored & saved.

The only positive about this is the fact that while these locomotives aren't being restored, at least they have not been cut up for scrap as so much history in Australia has been lost before. Instead of fighting with other people who are interested in restoring all these old trains, why not OPEN to the public, raise a little money, build a restoration shed and let the VOLUNTEER RESTORERS on board.

Possibly in another 20 years, if no super rich benefactor comes to the aid of this "rag and bone" outfit, many of the museum items will be unsalvageable.
