Guys lol the glitch of glitter nails at like 5:14 & 5:18 is not an advertisement! I didn’t try to secretly promote or do a hidden ad or anything like that😂 The picture is actually an old picture from a Nails inc coffee nail polish review that I posted on this channel about a year ago. I edit in iMovie and somehow the picture made an overlay onto my video🤦🏽‍♀️😭

Hehehe! You're a good man. My BF is kind of metro, so he ALWAYS gives me input when I do my nails. The color(s), the kind of polish, the various top coats and finishes, etc. He even gets all pissy if I smudge a nail! LMAO! (This is a 52 year old guy, btw! Haha!) Then, when I'm finished, he wants to see how it turned out. He'll always make little suggestions like, "maybe add a little bit of sparkle to your ring finger's nails," or "can you do a French manicure with such and such colors?", etc. It's really endearing and sweet.

My problem is 1 letting it dry without smudging 2.making the layers too thick 3.painting with my bad hand 4. And getting good polishes that aren’t all lumpy and have a good brush
@LoveRGMusicD

For lumpy polishes you can buy a nail polish thinner to thin the polish, the other problems are fixed with just practice and patience

You do a first layer don’t make it thick let it dry then 2nd coat thin
@CasuallyObservant
@CasuallyObservant 5 лет назад
XxQueenxiexX - The polish needs to flow properly in order to get this kind of smooth result. If your polish is even a teeny bit too thick, you need to thin it with pure acetone. My easy way is to first test the polish by shaking it well and then pulling out the brush and seeing its consistency. If too thick, I add a few drops of 100% pure acetone to it. Then I shake it well and try again. To make this easy, I purchased a tall thin 4-6 oz plastic bottle that has a eye dropper in the lid and fill it with the acetone as needed. I have been able to successfully resuscitate polishes that were more than 10 years old. It works on Shellac, Gel, regular polishes, glitter polishes - even the hypo-allergenic polishes.
@CasuallyObservant
@CasuallyObservant 5 лет назад
Another tip: On the table where you are going to do your manicure, put down several layers of paper towels to protect your surface and to also serve to wipe off a brush if need be. I tape them to the table so they lay flat and don't move. I then put a small lid from a water jug or other disposable lid down on the paper towels and put a few drops of acetone in the lid. Then, when I have done my two base coats and apply my first or second coat of color, I check the flow on the nail. If the color coat is too thick or streaking, I dip my polish brush lightly in the acetone and go over the section I don't like. It will immediately smooth the polish and pull off the excess. I then wipe the brush on paper towel and put back in bottle. It works great. Good luck!

Using alcohol to dehydrate your nails before your mani makes *SUCH* a big difference! I've been doing it for about 6 months now and my polish stays on much longer than it used to. It's a much-overlooked step that can make all the difference. And for a great cleanup brush - a tiny little concealer brush from E.l.f. makeup brand works awesome. It's only $1 and it's the perfect size to really clean your edges great!
@Beautybytracilei
@Beautybytracilei 5 лет назад
KimShea22 I’ve also used the tiny liner brushes that come with L’Oréal gel liner. I don’t like them for liner, but they’re the perfect size for cleaning up polish.

That's the same brush I use! I should probably replace mine since it's becoming a little frayed, but I could easily spend another dollar.

I do like your idea of the E.l.f. tiny concealer brush, thanks for that tip! Silly question though.... does the brush go hard? Or would it even because of the (I’m not going to say acetone because most people use nail polish remover without acetone which is much better for your nails that’s for sure) nail polish remover.... does that even go hard? I’m kinda answering my own question I think as I type it lol TIA!

This was helpful for someone like me who is inexperienced/bad at doing my nails. Thank you! Also, I don't know if anyone else mentioned this tip but I read that if you're like me and you get polish on the skin around your nails a lot and you don't want to spend a lot of money on latex nail tape then you can use regular Elmer's white glue instead. Use a very small brush like for eyeliner (ELF makes one for $1) and paint on a thin layer of glue around your fingernails. Let the glue dry, paint your nails and then when your nails are dry you can peel off the glue and the excess nail polish should come off easily.

As a licensed cosmetologist, I learned that you CAN trim off the cuticle (dead skin) from the nail, but not the eponychium (often confused with the cuticle). Also, one great tip to getting that polish as close as possible to the cuticle area, without flooding or touching it, is to place a small drop of polish and then gently push it with your brush toward the eponychium. Thin coats work best, as they dry more evenly and are not prone to chipping!
@donnapeterson1945
@donnapeterson1945 7 месяцев назад
Also, when I gentle push my cuticles back once in a while I have excess skin that forms and then I gently use my cuticle cutting tool and clip these little pieces off, easy peasie. But I don't go crazy and only need to do this maybe once a month. If I don't I will be tempted to pick at this excess skin or bite at that skin which is really gross.

I know I've heard it said many times: don't shake your nail polish = air bubbles, blah blah blah BUT I've got to be honest I shake the crap outta my polish and I have never once had a problem. And I have a fairly large collection of many brands. Also I was wondering why you said not to ever cut your cuticles? I see all these Russian nail techs do it and was considering trying it but now I'm not so sure. Do you use gel at all Gabby? I'd love to see a video like this on gel polish. There's something about it that I'm just not getting. Thanks.
@wowlily1245
@wowlily1245 5 лет назад
I have 1000+ nail polishes. They are sitting inside a drawer. If I roll them gently on my hands they will never mix. I'm with you on this one. I shake my polishes reaaaaaally well right before applying them and my mani is always flawless, no air bubbles whatsoever. About cutting the cuticles... well, I'm not in favor of that. I have done it properly in the past and nowadays I don't. The difference I see in my cuticles and in my nails in general is huge. They grow a lot faster now that that I don't cut them, they bend and don't break, they are more even without as many bumps as before. I believe so many nail techs around the world cut their clients cuticles because it's just faster. They go to the salon with their nails in the worst state and want to leave with pretty nails, so there's no cuticle oil that'll save those if you know what I mean...
@GabbyAngelique
@GabbyAngelique 5 лет назад
Beth Magalski the main reason not to cut your cuticles is because it serves as a protective barrier for your nails, along with that cutting them just results in them growing back uneven and rugged which I have personally experienced😭 it’s also one of those things where you if you start to do it regularly you don’t stop I rarely ever use gel so I would be the best to ask about that because I’m definitely a beginner! I would watch nail career education here on RU-vid because she is a licensed nail tech 💕
@wowlily1245
@wowlily1245 5 лет назад
@Floriduh GirlWell, if you like having more space to play with, then cut them. If you're not cutting to the point they bleed and if you're not feeling any pain, just do it. Whatever makes you happy. My long term experience cutting my cuticles was what I mentioned before. And yes, I was doing them properly. Back then I also took a cuticle course (idk how it's called in the USA, I live in Brazil. Here it's called curso de cutilagem). So I was doing it the "proper way". The final results, as I mentioned earlier, were weaker nails, bumps on the nail plate, etc. All that long term. So I stopped. I save time time while doing my own nails, no risks of infection getting inside my body through my cuticles, longer, stronger and more flexible nails.
@wowlily1245
@wowlily1245 5 лет назад
@Floriduh Girl I use cuticle remover to remove the dead skin. Mainly I use BlueCross and BeNatural. I just apply some, let it sit for 45 secs and use a wood stick to remove the dead skin that builds on the surface of the nail. Then I wash my hands and I'm good to go. Cuticles don't need to be cut because they are that dead transparent skin sitting on top of our nails that we just see when we push them back.
@wowlily1245
@wowlily1245 5 лет назад
@Floriduh Girl woah! It's okay. I'm not offended. ;-) Yes, it's super confusing. That's why I replied to the girl (Beth), because when we see everybody doing something and someone else comes to us saying that's not the right way to do it, we get confused. I believe that as long as you don't hurt yourself while doing it, if you like the results, if you are really not harming yourself, then just cut that skin. But it's important to keep in mind it's not actually healthy. Cutting live skin is never healthy, but then again.. people have plastic surgeries... If that makes them feel good, they should do it.

As a licensed nail technician, some of these tips are true and some of them are not necessary. As for the cuticles, you can cut your cuticles as long as you actually know the difference between your cuticle and your eponychium. For filing, yes you never want to “saw” your nail, but you want to try to only file from the back towards the tip. As for the alcohol, this step is not 100% necessary as long as you know how to properly apply your polish, the only times you need to dry out your nail plate is for acrylics and gels.
@kitschmygrits4836
@kitschmygrits4836 5 лет назад
i'm licensed in nails as well as skin and hair and I was taught to file always towards the center of the nail. So to clarify, from each outer edge towards the center always. Is that what you were taught as well? Sawing back and forth is grinding them "against the grain", if you will. Yes?
@AzerathMetrionZintos
@AzerathMetrionZintos 5 лет назад
Peggy Potts yes, filing towards the center of the tip is what I was getting at. At that moment I couldn’t remember how to describe the motion. And I absolutely tell all my friends and clients, never file in a sawing motion because you will damage the nail plate and cause your free edge to weaken.

Every. Single. Time I let a nail tech trim the cuticle, it causes my finger SKIN to peel in ribbons after a few days. Painful! Gross! I don't know what causes that but I've tried keeping moisturized, protected, etc and it never fails. Takes weeks to heal! So as much as I love the clean look, experience tells me to only push back never cut cuticle skin:(
@hollypotter9383

I was also taught that you should only really use high grit files on toes, as finger nails are softer and more likely to split. Can anyone confirm?

The base coat should be really thin and you should wait until it completely dries before applying your nail polish (a first thin layer) , make sure you paint it quickly and don't go over the same area twice.. Once it dries out you should be able tu put a second layer of your nail polish. It takes time but it works at least for me.

Hi! I'm not sure what base coat you're using but the CNC base coat that I use on clients fully dries by the time I'm done applying it to all 10 nails. this is absolutely the MOST ACCURATE video of do's and dont's for nails i have seen. EVERYTHING YOU WENT THROUGH I LEARNED IN COSMETOLOGY a lot of ppl either file their nails on both sides, or they use lotion and dont clean their hands before nail polish which prevents it from drying... like EVER. And a lot of ppl shake the bootle which does cause air bubbles we learned to roll the bottle inside of our palms to prevent this from happening. ANOTHER TIP always clean the mouth of the bottle from the nail polish because it gets sticky, tacky and gunky and it is 1- a lot harder to close and 2- it also damages the nail polish and the brush. So what youll do is take a cotton pad or ball and get some acetone and CAREFULLY clean around it so that it doesnt damage the nail polish.

Beyonce Knowles ok. Well I use a taco (top coat) I that dries in 30 seconds, but when I didn’t have that top coat, I would wait 5 minutes after applying and layer and then soak my hand in cold water every 2 minutes for 20 seconds. Your layer should be dry enough to apply a new one after 6-7 minutes or a bit more. Then after I applied my final coat, I would wait 5 minutes again, and then soak my hand in water for 5 minutes every 8-10 minutes until I’ve done for 2-25 minutes. After all that, it should be dry but still be careful, it can still smudge

I struggle watching ppl getting their cuticula removed or pushed and if I could avoid this step with mines I'd rather be aware ab it 🥲 I don't have any material as a guy and my mom doesn't really use makeup like artists or most young ppl would do, implying there is no tools like sponges or thin brushes to help with removing efficiently alcohol or nail polish, I can just think of paper towel or cotton bud 😕 anyway rn what I think I need is nail polish and these coats (which I assume is 1 product for both steps) I have alcohol at home and I don't feel like it's necessary to touch cuticulas, if you can answer some of my questions I'd be highly delighted 🙇‍♂️

Don't dehydrate your nails too much, apply base coat and cap the tip with it, cap the tip with only your first coat of color and your top coat (when you cap it you want there to be barely any polish on the brush) make sure your nails dry fully then be careful with your nails! Wash dishes with gloves, don't be too rough with your hands. Maybe if polish isn't your best friend, you could try gel polish! It lasts longer and is harder to chip! Honestly my favourite.
