This is seriously the best guide I've found about this game ever. Thanks for the slides and not shying away from explaining a role to beginner's. Every other guide I've found just says "you're new it doesn't matter"... here I can actually gain an understanding, even if basic, about the role I'm placed in.
I love how every other role has all of these technical elements as to why you might like to play them and Offlane is basically just: "You thrive on the pain and misery of other people. Here little Timmy; have a hammer: go ruin that other kids day"
The last part spoke straight from my soul. I started playing with friends and they pretty much pushed me into the support role because they didnt want me to lose as a Core position. After that they flamed me for not warding.
I have never in my life played dota, but I’ve played many adjacent team games and especially related mobas like Smite and League. I cannot tell you why I came across this video or clicked on it, but this is honestly one of the best informative game videos I think I know of. The clarity and openness to starting dota is really nice to see in gaming. I honestly am considering playing it after seeing this because of how clearly you explained how the roles work. I typically come from a background of playing both hard carry type roles (bot lane in league/adc in smite) but being able to contextualize why I play those roles and where they fit into the granddaddy of mobas is really enlightening. I honestly am considering picking up pos4 or 2 when I decide to start dota now Bc I’ve become more of a leader role in other team games I’ve picked up since moving on from league and smite. Overall I am super grateful the algorithm gave me this video
This game is so overwhelming for new players, and so many people trying to describe it for new players seem to forget how much information we need to begin learning. You did a great job, this was so easy to follow. TYSM!
Awesome beginner guide. I`m playing pos4-5 99% of the time and since 5+ years. I really love community-teamplayer like you. YOU, Slacks & Co. are gonna help many new and lower-bracket players. Thanks for that, stay safe, enjoy your life and gl for your future. :)
You all probably dont care but does anyone know of a tool to get back into an Instagram account..? I was stupid lost my account password. I would love any tips you can give me
I had a tough time to find a proper introduction with a likeable presenter, but I finally found one. Thank you for this video and all the other videos that I'm surely gonna watch.
Thanks man!! after years on Dota at 52 now, I just learned this.. now I think I can move from all pick to Ranked and understand what role to play better. God Bless you
Awesome guide, well explained, nice screenshots, easy to understand. Your last tip was the best tip by far…let the new players go core and have fun. Its simpler and more engaging. Cant fault your video mate, good work.
Subbed to you. I love how passionate you are and you really sold me into giving this game another try. It was so daunting when I first attempted years ago. Now I'll be more confident about it, thanks to you!
i'm trying to get into dota 2 and have watched a couple of different guides trying to wrap my head around the different roles. this is by far the easiest one to understand imo. thank you for this!! i'm definitely going to try the different roles to see which one i like best.
Thank you!!! Dota has a major learning curb! And most people do not know how to explain the fame from scratch for people who don't even know the basics. You are awesome 💙 you break down the basics so nicely! Following you just because of this video alone 🤗
My friend recently introduced me to dota, and he's been so good at helping me become better. We usually play single draft (my choice) i think its pretty fun and i believe that it helps me learn more heroes. He always made me go for a carry hero at first and he used to ward and pull and stack and help me farm. However, ive started liking supporting more and im enjoying the game a lot. So ya guess i got a helpful friend (:
Been watching some dota channels recently. Only subscribed to you, even before finishing the video. You have such a pleasant and simple narration. And joy :-)
the way you presented the information in this video really made me want to play this game even more than the anime did (ill try core roles first but i wanna be support 4/5 )
Not a beginner but I'm here because I miss playing this game. It's been more than 10 years now... I love how forgiving and reassuring you are to beginners! Hats off to you :)
So in comparison to League: Hard Carry - Assasins/Bruisers/AD carries Offlaner - Juggernaut/Skirmishers Midlaners - AP carries Hard Support - Enchanters/Wardens Soft Support - Junglers/Vanguards
This is by far the best guide I’ve seen for Dota. I haven’t played since 2017 and I feel like the terminology has completely changed. This honestly made me feel a lot better about everything. Thank yoy
In my opinion support players are very knowledgeable about the game mechanics and very versatile role. There are numerous of times that support players are giving the enemy team a hard time during clash and farming due to they can spam skills and itema lls during clash plus they do warding and dewarding for both offensive and defensive
My good sir... you created a work of art and science here with this video, well done. Your explanations are true, easy to understand and straight to the point, thanks!
I've got some experience with DOTA 2, but I think that this video has *a lot* of great information and I'll certainly watch your other videos on the new player stuff.
I've just downloaded Dota 2 to play it for the first time in my life! Decided to see the reviews on RU-vid first .... damn it seems so complicated. But I like the way you explain it, so I think I shall learn from your channel
My last game was in 2015 lmao. Just getting interested in the mechanics in case I play again, but I don't think I will be for now. I played this before I got into League, but as a league player, I guess I'll get the hang of it after some time.
Looking for a new MOBA from LoL and Pokémon Unite and this video is by far the most welcoming thing I've seen. Thank you for your clarity and calm demeanor, as well as the knowledge you shared.
League of Legends player here. After watching this video, I am just going to take a look at DOTA 2's Hero roster and pick whichever one I think looks the coolest and jump into one of the sidelanes and just play. Wish me luck
Thanks for the video, this was very helpful! I stopped playing dota back in 2014 so I kinda dropped off at all, so it was very good to refresh the memory to jump back in. Also, love from another support player
Very helpful! Do you recommend playing against bots as a beginner? Because every unranked game I play, people flame me, so I feel like I should get practice in AI games first
Yeah, I think playing bot games is a good way to get into the game and cover some basics! It's not perfect, but I think you can at least get familiar with the game if you're brand new. And honestly learning how to beat the highest difficulty of bots will mean you have a starting threshold of skills to use against real players
Omg the last one is so true. When I started playing dota probably 6 yrs ago, my friends told me to play as hard support which rly hard to digest as new player (told me to pull camps, wards, buy dust etc etc), resulting in me not enjoying the game & chose not to continue playing lol. I’m coming back to the game now & and it has so much more mechanics compared to before😢
The main thing that just looks off from this is that the hard carry will be against 2 supports, so surely they will get stomped all game and give the carry a lot of farm. Doesn't this create massive issues? who would want to be an off-laner when your job is basically I guess last hit your own minions to try your best to stop the carry from funneling, and the 2 palyers on the most important roles for carrying never interact until after laning. And if 1 of the people in the off-lane tends to roam you then have 1 support soloing a hard carry and I'm guessing somebody with CC, so they'll be camping under tower the whole game.
Just downloaded this game yesterday. You're right, I'm new to the game. Just be new! If smurfs have a problem with me "ruining" their matches then maybe don't smurf. Go to your elo on your main account. Thanks for this, you made me laugh and also took away my anxiety.
i'm low 1k mmr and i have played 16,000 matches yet i dont know what is pos lol. I dont play rank because im kinda toxic and easily gets angry so i usually play unranked for fun. Thanks for the explaination, now i get to know a little more knowledge about roles and pos. I play Axe, Clinkz and techies .
Great guide! To your point about playing something fun as a new player, I first started trying Warlock in Hard Support and had trouble controlling his golems so I felt like I was having low impact in game, then I switched to Lina and immediately felt like I had more impact since her ult is just a single shot ability and her other abilities seemed more damaging. Dota2protracker currently says she's a carry or mid laner but I was playing her in same support lane which was funny.
I am coming from LoL so picking up this beast of a moba that seems so yhe same but is totally different is kinda scary. Thanx to this guide i am can try it out with a bit of confidence. I am kinda sad there is no jungle role as thats usually my main role in LoL... Well back to support I guess.
Its worth noting that dota is an ever-evolving game and these roles are just what is meta currently. A good group of 5 players might have a completely different setup doing something like a Tri lane, a setup that has a dedicated jungler, or something even more unique that hasn't been discovered yet. Dota is a very open game that encourages you to experiment and find your own way to play the game.
I'm from league and TFT yup its fun and cool to play league but sometimes it getting boring specially in support role because our job is to take care a useless carry but soft support description fit my playstyle hope this game give me the hype like the dota1 gives me 😊😊
Decent guide but there are some VERY important things missing, such as: 1. pick hard carry last, because you dont want enemy to hard counter you even before the game begin 2. if you dont play in a party, it's recommended to pick strong lane dominators, tanky units or units with escape mechanics so you dont end up getting killed over and over again. I find these 2 points VERY important for new players, because they often end up dying a lot, thinking it's their team fault for not protecting them.
In league you also have to farm for at least 20 minutes if you play the carry, but people just dont understand how important farming is so your adc is useless most of the time, this is way better, funneling gold into one person.
thanks for this vid, it was super helpful! i don’t even play dota (somehow my computer is so shit it can’t even do that) but my bf is really into it and i want to know some terminology so i can at least understand what he’s talking abt lol
23:30. I play a lot of league. A coworker was just trying to explain the concept of pulling to me for like 30 minutes. Y'all baby the hell out of your carries and bust your humps as supports dear god. I had to spend 30 minutes explaining to him that we do literally nothing for our carries because that's what is most helpful. Don't ask them to go to the jg or roam. Don't hit minions let them manage the wave. Supports are there to get hit instead, or sit on the enemy while the carry hits them.
Getting back into the game after not playing since 2017. Have a ton of questions about how 3, 4, and 5 play now with all the changes to the map and the xp changes that I'm still not even 100% sure on what exactly changed
So what im understanding is... The HARD CARRY (1) is the baby and the HARD SUPPORT (5) is the babysitter protecting the baby until it grows to be a big strong carry. The MID (2) is the father allowing the family to progress and set up everyones future. The OFFLANER (3) is the big brother who is usually a bully but shows some support once and a while. And the SOFT SUPPORT (4) is the mother who protects and helps everyone in the family.
