Thank you for that cool tip. I have found that using varnish as a basecoat prior to applying my stencil lines definitely makes working easier. My question is how do you apply stencils/grid lines on top of the resin or do you freehand your designs?
Hi, Jessy. This looks very cool, and I’d like to try dotting on top of glossy varnish - (not ready to venture in the world of resin yet.). However, I’ve heard in several other dot mandala tutorials that dotting on top of a glossy surface (like a glossy clear-coat varnish) can make it difficult for the paint to adhere once it’s dry. They’ve said there’s a risk the paint could crack or peel off in spots, and therefore advise against dotting atop a glossy surface. I like your idea though, so I wonder what your thoughts are about the risk of paint not adhering well to a glossy surface. Thanks.
I would love to try a resin surface to dot on like your round coasters! 😃 💕 🙏 I do spray a varnish on top of my stones after basecoat is dry & it makes such a difference as you demonstrate! However, I am sure it's amazing with resin.
Pam J I have a few available in my Etsy shop (if they aren’t gone already). Flick me an email if you’d like any other items resined first etc - Jessyd.designs@gmail.com
Looks beautiful but... I have used resin before on different art form and after a while it goes yellow. Could you please tell me what resin you use and has it been tested for longevity re discolouring? Thank you :)
Julie Homer it does go nicely on canvas but it apparently distorts the shape after some time. A resin teacher in a class I did a few months ago told me this so I’ve never bothered trying it on canvas.
Thanks for this amazing video which gives me another idea to work with . However it will be nice if you shared the way resin is applied and with a demo of dotting on it . Am a beginner and love this amazing art and looking forward to learn more techniques .
There are heaps of different brands. I like Art Resin. Depending on where you are in the world you’ll have to do a search on google and see what’s available to you where you live.
Hello Jessy. How can I order a few already pieces you have put resin on? I want to try as I’m a newbie so I’m looking for any help I can get. Thank you.
Thank you Jessy! I have used a multi purpose sealer on bare wood. And I’ve been using deco art dura clear varnish or deco art triple thick gloss glaze to seal my work.
thanks for sharing this! is there any specific acrylic paint that can be used while doing dot-painting? I have a liquid based acrylic paint, and also have tube-thick consistency. Which is better for dot-painting?
@@jessyddesigns3109 I also love Jo Sonya paints! I discovered them about 35 years ago :D I am just starting out on my dot painting journey so the fact you use my favourite paint is an added bonus! Thanks for sharing your tips. I will be following 🥰
Jesse, respectfully I must disagree with your thesis that professional dot artists first resin their substrate. When I examine the work of admired artists such as Elsbeth McLean, Liona Hotta or Brandon Rollin, it's clear they don't use resin at all. Liona Hotta has even said she doesn't mind bubbles in her paint because it shows it's hand made. Brandon Rollin shows his process on Instagram.
CelesteaMinx thanks for your input Celeste. I shouldn’t have said “all” artists. I won’t name names but I wasn’t meaning any of the ones you mentioned. I discovered this trick as I was told by an artist who sells her work very high and has quit a large following. I’ve also noticed other artists (mostly doing micro dots) doing the same although they won’t disclose their secrets. My intention for this video is to show my follows how they can improve their dotting buy trying something different. Dotting on an uneven surface is a huge challenge for most beginner dot artists. Hopefully this video will give them some other ideas. X
not true. Maybe she's not looking at it as an impetfection. Original dot painting is not aboug the perfect dot. If you decide to paint that way cool. If not it is still cool. It's your art.
The little imperfections that you tried to point out on the one that was not resined wete not visible to me. Your wanting perfection turns off beginers. I like the teachers who say it is okay to not be perfact. I won't subscribe.
I have many videos on here & other social media platforms where my work isn’t perfect. I’m just letting people know what options there are if they want to improve their skills. But thanks for the advice.
I had learned this on my own... Everything did better if I sealed it first... I usually use a Rustoleum Gloss before dotting or whatever... Glad to see this video...
Joy Thompson yes you can use a white charcoal pencil but make sure you rub off most of the powder/lines before you apply paint as the paint may not stick properly.
Hi Laurie! Nice to see you on here :-) I have the white round coaster ready to go if you're interested in purchasing one or all of them? Feel free to email me jessyd.designs@gmail.com :-) x
@@ananamu2248 “you guys” is just like saying “y’all” Does it really bother you to the point of needing to make a comment? Please don’t be so hypersensitive. It kinda spoils the friendly vibe. ✌️
Thank you for sharing but what is resin? Which brand/type do you use? Would dotting on wine bottles give similar effect as doing it on a resin surface?
I just use a coat of black acrylic first on the item i am going to use, wood, paper, stone, glass etc. way cheaper then i resin the finished product, turns out mahvelousssssss
