12/8, 12/4, whatever! Everything is in three instead of two. Hope this is useful despite my horrible speech.
This is a great example of how a weakness can be used as an advantage.

This was an awesome instruction, I've played drums for awhile and have always had problems with getting my left leg to get in synch with my right while playing double bass, and thought I just couldnt do it as good as I wanted, and never actually thought about adding as as a have note to accompany.. I've been watching your vids for a few years and just became a subscriber cause I think you are an awesome drummer and love your covers of songs if tried to play and realized even though i thought i was a good drummer, I've still got a long way to go, thank you for these videos, please keep doing them... awesome talent my friend

I have to say this: i love your honestly. You don't pull out books and time signatures to shun anyone. You explain what works for you and try to share the good and the bad and that's EXACTLY what the average person needs. Idk why you don't have more subscribers but you should. Never stop. Don't listen to the haters or people that say they know the "correct" way. If the sound is the same then it's still the correct way.

What you illustrate here is a perfect example of why people need to STFU about the "right" way to play something and the "wrong" way. The fact is, you produce the exact same sound and do so more comfortably with your method. Not only that, but by playing it in threes, you are actually developing a different level of dexterity in your feet that will help you master other patterns more easily than maybe others. I had problems with double bass for the longest time (for me too it's a bitch to master). I tried to play the "right" way (well, heels-up at least), but then one day discovered that playing one heel down eliminated the balance issues I was having, and suddenly, my double bass playing entered a new dimension. I now play a mixture of three different ways depending on the signature and tempo: both heels up, one heel up (the other down), or both heels down (harder to learn, but much more precise and easier to play once you master it IMO). And mind you, with no difference in volume. In fact, I can actually play louder with heel down because it allows me to let the beater travel backwards farther prior to the next hit. I'll post a video someday.

Me too! 75% Right foot 25% Left foot. I also play with my left arm on hi-hat & right arm on snare but keep the traditional set-up rather than the hi-hat to the right of the snare so I'm not crossing sticks. It might look different but it's just easier for me.
@joetroutt7425
@joetroutt7425 4 дня назад
The way i learned 12/8 double bass grooves and how to keep my double kicks consistent with my snare on top of my left foot is to do triplets with my hands and ghost notes on the parts that don't need to be emphasized. So basically you are playing the same exact partern as the bass drums but with your hands and only accenting the notes 1 and 4. Its not the proper way but it works for me
