Lets face it, some people had a deep hatred of Mary Decker. And that hatred led them to see things that never happened. Decker is among a very small list of runners who are the greatest of all time. Long live Mary Decker and her Legend !!!

She is not amongst the best ever. Never set a WR in an Olympic distance. Only 2 world championship medals. No Olympic medals. Only the best 2 years of her long 20 plus year career- 1983 and 1985.

@@corymajor7811 You don't know what you're talking about, Mary at one time held the American Records from 800m to 10K, all of them, she won 2 World Championships, was the first person to defeat the Russians both as a junior and senior runner, and her career spanned 20 years, and was on 4 Olympic teams and she also held World records and she ran against as we know now drug induced eastern European athletes, do some research.

That why I think the first and best world championship because of the boycott this was the Olympics games until 1988.cram, Coe ovett , decker Koch Lewis Koch, gohr at there prime almost in 1983

Ironically if Decker had run the 1500m in Los Angeles instead of the 3000m she probably would have won it.

She was one of the great runners of her generation. It's too bad she was such a baby. I also noticed no congratulations of the other runners after the race. But her running was so impressive, especially considering that she was beating all the Eastern European druggies from those state-sponsored drug program. Decker was a child prodigy who reached the top of the world as a senior athlete. Had she avoided some injuries she could have ruled the sport for many more years.

She did nothing for which she could be disqualified. It is about time for all the "Decker Haters" to admit that Mary was just a great runner. One of the greatest of all-time.

I remember Decker lapping someone in a race, the other runner was oblivious to it and was running in the first lane, and Decker was so incensed that this poor lady didn’t move over to the second lane that she angrily pushed her out of the way! What a disgusting display of unsportsmanlike behaviour.

The 1500 M race had a great finish. Mary goes wide, with the other runner leading, then she goes into overdrive, and smokes her at the finish line. Mary was a great middle distance runner, one of the best, if not the best ever.

Great announcing in the 3000 win. We don't find that quality of speech today. I have more respect for Mary now. All I ever saw before was her falling at the Olympics and crying about it with a woulda, coulda look. I didn't know how much she proved up to then.

It's fun to listen to the British broadcasters politely criticizing Mary's race strategy. "laid on a comfortable pace", not being positive enough". inject some pace - absolutely critical". It's not like they don't know because they say the three magic numbers - one...fifty...seven. A gal that can clock that kind of time for 2 laps, pop the bonnet and you will surely find something extra under the hood!

Decker at her peak. Shame what happened in LA the next year but that's showbiz. I think some of her unsportsmanship to Budd was due to it being the 3rd Olympics for her down the tubes. '76 injured, 80 boycott. Still one of the all time great women runners.

Her junior career when she threw a wobbly and the baton in a relay. Bud‘s supposed enemy (what bullshit) Budd always said she couldn’t give two hoots about Deckers muck up during the Olympics. Decker’s fault after all. To her late suspension for testosterone. America’s darling. Controversial to the end. To think I once had respect for her. No way...
@mstrunn
@mstrunn 5 лет назад
+pw She was 13 when she threw the baton and the Russian girl cut in front of her, it was not Decker's fault in 84, it was an accident things happen when you are following and on the rail and Mr. PW the test for tessy was faulty and the verdict was over turned or did you not know that? Blame her all you want but there is nothing wrong with wanting to be the best at what you do and there was enormous pressure on both ladies in 84, Mary is the greatest middle distance runner the US has ever had to this point.

Did the Russian get the silver? She rolled over the line, lol. I guess 84 and Budd was karma.
@garetht9666
@garetht9666 7 лет назад
She crossed lanes and hit the Russian from behind causing her to fall to the ground. This is the first time I've ever seen that race (I think) and I could see from 30 meters out that Decker was going to collide into the Russian. The Russian girl was running perfectly straight. I doubt it was intentional but it almost appears that way. Surely that would be illegal today. At any rate, far more at fault here than Budd was in 84.
@tommytempo1
@tommytempo1 7 лет назад
Decker never touched her, If anything Zaitseva drifted outwards and her legs buckled.
@garetht9666
@garetht9666 7 лет назад
Well watching again I see that she didn't cross into the Russian's lane, but it certainly appears that their elbows clashed and this caused Zaitseva to lose her balance. Decker was clearly the one drifting inwards at the end but she didn't cross the lane and Zaitseva had drifted outwards a few seconds earlier when several meters ahead of Decker. However, none of the commentators at the other RU-vid uploads of the race seem to think it was a collision, so maybe I'm wrong :)
@garetht9666
@garetht9666 7 лет назад
You were right, hehe - I found a video showing the end of the race from full on and it's clear that they didn't touch and that the Russian girl did dive :D
