It was great in the novel, but butchered here. This is like if we weren't shown Kohaku and Naruto meeting before fighting on the Naruto Bridge, and were just expected to be moved by them acting as if they had.
I mean they did skip that arc in the LN where Kazuma switches parties temporarily and actually gets shit done So he can lock in if anything he is carrying (keeping everyone “somewhat” under control)
Kazuma was even better in the LNs. He was way more brutal as well, after waterboarding Mitsurugi he froze his airway shut with Freeze to demotivate everyone around him
In manga both Chris and Kazuma went to treasury room and Kazuma tried to take one of best treasure (doujinshi /porn book) 😆 that actually the cause of them trigger the alarm which made the guards spot them
Supplementary info/LN changes (long comment warning because many notable things were changed.) Fun fact: the WN released (Dec. 2012 - Oct. 2013) before Persona 5 was announced (Nov. 24, 2013) and LN 6 (March 1, 2014) was released before Persona 5 released (September 15, 2016.) In the LN, after the punch last episode, Megumin was on his back likely due to Explosion and realized he was back, so she told him to give her Mana so she can help him fight and she beat up the delinquents without Explosion (she let Iris fight, because her stats are OP as a Royal and she could beat them in Kazuma’s body, despite the swap.) Claire and Darkness were furious and lectured him when he returned, instead of Aqua (during the banquet, Claire also chewed him out so badly he ran away crying and wanted to leave, because everyone thought his Party should ditch Kazuma and gave solutions to replace Kazuma, the weakest class and felt useless, despite everything he did so far.) Claire was like an S, the counterpart to the M Darkness and Kazuma confronted her about her desires with Iris, bringing up her having a moment with Iris.) They weren’t caught the same way in the LN, as Kazuma triggered the alarm by stealing a dirty magazine and they shouldn’t have been spotted with Lurk, as it can trick even a Rookie Killer (the monster shown in KonoBakuen.) Rain is a Mage, so the anime buffed her by giving her access to healing, which that class doesn’t get (she ‘healed’ Mitsurugi by melting the ice with her magic and couldn’t heal Claire/Claire didn’t fight.) This entire fight disappointed the community, since the LN makes it clear that it’s all Kazuma with the mask just giving him clearer thinking and apparently an important staff member downplays Kazuma so he never gets his full cool moments from the LN, for comedy (he solos the knight force by spamming Drain Touch, Create Earth and Windbreath to blind, Bind, and Steal, to non-lethally defeat everyone with no damage skills, besides Drain Touch and causes them to panic because they think he’s more powerful than a Crimson Demon, as no one should be able to use such high mana costing spells like Bind and spam it, he doesn’t have Manatite, and they can’t see Drain Touch, so it just looks like he is just one-shotting people by being near, Kazuma defeats Mitsurugi by grabbing his face and shoving Create Water down his throat and instantly uses Freeze, preventing him from breathing and naturally choking, lowering their morale and forcing them to get help so Mitsurugi doesn’t die and he was taken out during this scene, Chris and Kazuma used this skill called Escape, which prevented the knights from capturing them/catching up to them as it boosted their evasion rate, Kazuma used Snipe to break Rain’s staff, causing her to cry, and prevented her from casting deadly magic to kill them, and the stakes were higher as Claire told Rain and everyone else to kill them and would let Aqua use Resurrection.) Darkness used the lighter and burned the dirty magazine, which made Kazuma dejected and the scene where the castle finds out, is due to Aqua and Megumin, who sealed the Divine Treasure ahead of time and confirmed it was to protect Iris, respectively (Claire insults Kazuma again, but starts crushing on the masked thief, saying that she was disappointed that he became a thief, would’ve taken him in if he wasn’t a criminal, and hopes to meet him again.) Iris says that she fell for the handsome thief, pranked Kazuma to get a reaction out of him, and when Kazuma declares to beat the Demon King, Claire sneers at him (Iris also mentions her unique skill here in this anime only scene, Exterion, which is a glowing slash that can cut things into two and she can vary it’s power.) Fun fact: the chibis here are from the LN and are used for the next LN previews (also, among the dolls Mitsurugi has, one is a Winter Shogun, which Kazuma won for Yun Yun in LN 3/S2.) When Megumin writes the note, Darkness and Kazuma react, with Darkness panicking and Kazuma choosing not to reveal because he’s now her hero that she looks up to (there was also a silly scene where Kazuma steals Aqua’s wine and Megumin’s age is brought up and she says that she’s old enough to marry, so she’s allowed to drink and goes to buy the wine as Kazuma’s too overprotective.) So, I mentioned the cut ring joke in Episode 4, because at the end of this 2nd epilogue, Aqua sees the ring and tries to perform the same trick again, which Kazuma instantly keeps it away from her and LN 6 ends (they swapped the Alderp, Iris, and Kazuma scenes/PoVs, with Alderp first, then Iris, and lastly Kazuma’s, for the LN and some info was cut, but I’m holding it back, because they’re portraying it as a mystery instead of a crazy sudden reveal, like they did for Wolbach in LN 4 and KonoBakuen, and Hans in the same LN.) 18:09 - Last episode had Iris say that she received the Treasure from Jastice, Jastice received it from someone else, and Alderp wanted Jastice to marry Darkness. With what you’ve seen so far, you can now see that this is one of the darker and more serious LNs with insidious things happening and that Konosuba is more than just a comedy (the same staff cut one infamous chapter which would’ve clued anime only viewers in more, at least for Kazuma’s skills and not think he’s a joke) and the next LN/second half of this Season will continue this vibe and why they separated LN 5 and LN 6, so LN 6 and 7 could continue back to back (also, the first LN with no boss fight or General.) The title of LN 6 is a parody of Rokka no Yuusha/Rokka: Heroes of the Six Flowers (Rokka no Oujo/Princess of the Six Flowers.)
Kazuma is an overpowered pvp character, but he sucks at pve The skills he displayed, drain touch, bind, create water and freeze were able to incapacitate all the people he ran up against during this raid. His snipe or draintouch could have easily killed some of the soldiers and mages in there due to them not being meatshields like darkness. And he also attempted to drown katsumuragi with create water (though he did it a little differently in the novels)

He shivered violently. “Mitsurugi-dono!” Claire screamed. I let go of Mitsurugi and he knelt to the ground with both hands on his throat. “He probably won’t suffocate if you help him defrost. Is there anyone else who thinks he’s stronger than this fellow? Come at me if you have the guts! … Big Boss, now’s our chance! Charge in!”
you guys are right the mask do something but its not kazuma got possesed. the mask give better blood circulation and mana boost/circulation. because kazuma is already smart, better blood circulation makes his brain goes smooth mode. in season 1, kazuma said he want to become sword magician so he knows a lot of simple magic but his mana is just ass, that's why he can't use those magic except for a little bit. but in this episode, the reason he can cast a lot is, again, the mask. edit: wait vanir said its just skin care, not blood circulation. so i think its just magic boost that really affect kazuma here. the rest is him just basically lock in.
The fight scene in the light novel/manga has more content that got removed in the anime, the fight was more serious and badass I dont know why they keep excluding everything in the anime..
such a funny and great arc so far. also love that outro, the VA's voices are lovely especially darkness. i believe the mask did influence him by allowing him to think more clearly especially under the moonlight, but someone whose read the light novel prob knows the details
In the LN, the mask is basically a magical version of face masks for women (better complexion, blood circulation boost, and mana flow boost, all in moonlight.) It’s clearer that it’s all Kazuma in the LN, as all it did was make him think clearer and Kazuma roleplaying as Vanir is anime only, as this was him at his lowest point (like Itadori from JJK’s Shibuya Arc) and him choosing to become a selfless hero to protect Iris.
In LN vanir mask is just an excuse to let his confidence rose up And this episode didn't adapted it well, there's so many things they excluded like 1. Kazuma eliminates Katsuragi thinking it will let the soldiers moral down if he finish him 1st so Kazuma used combo spell Create Water + Freeze in Katsuragi Face and saying he will not get killed. . . Maybe if they help him. Immediately 2. There's no mages here it's just rain In LN there's equal of mages and soldiers and Chris is the one who handles mages and while kazuma handles close quarters combat 3. While fleeing to Iris location Claire said to rain to kill all of the enemy in the way using aoe magic including ally soldiers whos in the way saying aqua can just revive them then rain starts to chant the magic and before she finishes it Kazuma used snipe while jumping 360 in the air to destroy the orb in the wand of rain, after seeing that claire and rain amazed by it but after seeing her destroyed wand causing rain to cry a lot lmao (I love this scene) And last 3. Kazuma used combo spell Create Earth + Wind Breath to blind all the soldiers to get where iris location is And here's bonus Before the Castle Raid that fkn btch Claire said to Kazuma that he's so incompetent so she will try to recruit Kazuma party to join katsuragi That's one of the reasons why he accepts Chris invitation to infiltrate the castle
I'd still take the item, cuz unlike normal eternal life/immortality, with the item, you can just pick a body you want to die in if you don't want to live anymore

This is the first episode I truly hate. They not only removed Claire belittling Kazuma for all his accomplishments and misunderstanding how he's the only one that can actually make his group of misfits function, despite her knowing their greatest flaws, and thus making the pay-off of her being defeated minimal, but they removed Kazuma freezing the water he shot into Mitsurugi in order to keep him down, and thus turned a badass defeat that proved Kazuma truly can hang with the best in a way that isn't just a funny gimmick into an absolute joke. The two main plot points of this episode were either dimmed down to the point they were almost completely removed, or made a mockery of, and there's no defending that.
Kazuma has begginer magic spells (create earth,create water,wind breath,tinder and freeze) and some skills from other clasess like archer , swordsman and thief but thats all and most of the skills he has from those clases are just basic ones. Only op skills he has is drain touch
Only Drain Touch is S-Tier, because it’s a Lich spell, as all of his other spells are Basic Magic and non-lethal spells (Basic Magic deals 0 damage, so all Mages skip them for Intermediate Magic.) He’s just Joseph Joestar, where his intellect shines with what he has access to and most people in this world ignore Basic Magic.
I'd honestly go the crypto route with the body switching schemes. Or just drive out and bury the cash in some remote spot a few states away so it's harder to track back to you.
