DOUBLE STEAM...! ONE Sparkling CLEAN - The Other a TAD RUSTIC..! BIL & Sir Nigel at Crewe! 04/06/24

A great couple of hours at Crewe - With 35018 'British India Line' or BIL for short stopped for a water top-up on-route to Southall. The loco is heading onto Swanage tomorrow from Southall for the weekend.
Also seen is A4 60007 'Sir Nigel Gresley' shunting around the yard after a turn move on the Basford Hall triangle.
Whilst no inference to how well these locos are maintained/looked after is meant by this - Sir Nigel was looking sparkling clean versus BIL sporting a more well used look.
A few other locos on the move - With 57308 headed out of the Thunderbird sidings for a run-out to Trafford Park, plus the unique GBRf liveried 66797 headed up to the Peak District through platform one.

Great video, loved it! although I'm going to have a moan. Not about the video, but about the Loco `BIL` granted it may have been sat a while waiting for the right of way, but at 8.11 it sets off in a massive cloud of cylinder steam completely obscuring it. I have seen this a couple of times now. couldn't the crew carry out regular draining or at the very least, clear the cylinders, allow the steam to clear, and them move off! or doesn't it work that way?? whilst it might look dramatic, it most certainly doesn't help those on the platform trying to get that `One Video`, or am I just a "grumpy old git"?

Nope, it doesn’t work that way. It’s not a case of clearing the cylinders, it’s a case of the cylinders being cold and some the steam that hits them after the regulator opens when moving off condenses back to water until they warm up enough to not condense the steam. This can take quite a number of strokes if the loco hasn’t moved in a while, especially on large locos.
