While I initially had to wait on this new lure, I bought one of their honker frogs and modified the legs to use in the same way as the sprinker frog.

Hell Ya Joe Nice Donkey. Theres a reason why companies make a single tail, prop etc.. May be because the 2 legs hit each other? Im sure you will find a away to have both spin on the surface!

To many keyboard warriors today in times. With hoe the frog is swimming in the water you could try different things. I'm not sure what you've already tried but the angle of your rod tip could make the difference of whether or not they will plop or swim back and forth. If you hold the tip up I would think it would keep the nose up, out of the water. Keep the rod tip down keeps the nose level to water which I would think would keep the legs low. Great catch sir and keep on fishing!

I purchased a teckel honker frog (available at tackle warehouse) pulled off the blades and adapted two swimbait tails to the the old blade locations. You'll need a couple of parts but pretty easy really. To be honest its not as effective from a $$ standpoint because the honker frog costs $12 so after all the stuff you end up spending $18 bucks or so. Not really worth it in my opinion. Check out what lunker hunt is working on due out in a few months. www.tacklewarehouse.com/Lunkerhunt_Prop_Frog/descpage-LKHPFG.html

You don't need to shorten legs, just trim one side of each paddle and they should spin better. But as evident by your big catch, no changes are needed. I have made a few homemade Frankenlures, but yours got better results. Get a patent!

Nice bait and fish. If you use ball bearing swivels they will work the best on that bait. You might also want to use some shrink tube on the front part where the swivels attach to what ever you have holding them on. That should make the swivels kick out to the sides a little more, so that the "legs" don't hit each other.
@capitolbassfishing
@capitolbassfishing 7 лет назад
Great Idea, looks like lunker hunt had a similar idea. Go on tackle warehouse and look at "lunker hunt prop frog craoker" just came out this year at icast 2017. Its available this fall. I am going to order one to check it out. I love anything with the plopper action. Thanks for the tip they are excellent ideas.

I subbed you, subscribe if you haven't. Thanks!
@RagnarrBjorn
@RagnarrBjorn 7 лет назад
You could kind of make your frog like the Lunker Hunt one, but the back part of the swivel would still be seen. If you shrink tube the upper part that is closest to the main body, it will make the top part of the swivels more rigid. That way they would be farther apart.
@kushcrumbleshatter
@kushcrumbleshatter 7 лет назад
dood don't listen to people it doesn't matter at wat angle you hold your rod as long as you drop the rod tip to 6 and then 12 sometimes I'm over sum super thick structure and I have to hold my rod up at like 12 in order to fish the frog effectively and once the fish hits I drop the rod tip down to 6 and swing
@kushcrumbleshatter
@kushcrumbleshatter 7 лет назад
meant to say I drop the rod tip to 6 wile reeling up the slack and then swing but as long as u drop that tip reel up slack and swing to 12 ur good man and it don't look like u havin too much trouble
@capitolbassfishing
@capitolbassfishing 7 лет назад
yeah, I was thinking that...Whenever I am in serious goop, I like to hold the frog nose up to keep it clean running. I was like "so how is 6-12 gonna work?" so dropping it down and swinging is the way to go. Also gives a micro pause to make sure the bass has it. Thanks. Joe
@kushcrumbleshatter
@kushcrumbleshatter 7 лет назад
Joe Simpson exactly brother exactly wat I'm sayin, some people say to have a little slack wen u swing but most serious anglers will say reel down until no slack and u can even feel the fish and then swing 12 and that's wat I do on the strike drop the tip wile reeling slack and swing, great vid tight lines bro!

I've caught big bass on Booyah frogs but have to admit the rubber band legs don't offer great action and can foul the hooks. I am going to try replacing them with mister twister grub tails, no swivels.
@capitolbassfishing
@capitolbassfishing 7 лет назад
Yeah I was thinking about that too. If you have any luck let me know how it goes. thanks!
@drmitofit2673
@drmitofit2673 7 лет назад
It's easy to do and encourage you to try it. I made it as simple as possible with bare minimum supplies and can even be done lake-side. With a Booyah Pad Crasher frog, pull out both sets of rubber band legs from one side, then using a pair of combo needle nose pliers/wire cutters (same pliers I take fishing), cut a 2" section of 20 gauge (1.3 mm) solid copper wire at 45 degree angle (the point makes it easier to pierce the grub head), insert the copper wire in one leg hole and out the other, thread the head of a 3" to 4"" curly tail grub like the start of a Texas rig, using the pliers bend the wire back in a tear drop shape to retain the grub head and to make it weedless (trim wire as needed), then do the same for the other leg but may need to grasp the piercing wire with the pliers (both new legs should snug up to the body with a slight outward bend of the legs). Wire may get bent after landing a fish, but the solid copper wire is easy to bend back into shape. Not sure which curly tail orientation is best for swimming action (at rest a frog's back feet curl under), but I kept it symmetric. When the bass looks up it is VERY realistic profile with the body shape, two meaty thighs (the meatiest part of a frog), and flapping feet. The leg holes can fill with water but I decided not to plug them. Empty with a squeeze, and the lure floats legs down/eyes up like a real frog. If you load the body with water, you can work this bait sub surface which is where frogs swim. Fantastic swimming action in the test basin and the curly legs land on the water with a convincing splat. Extra weight from the legs should add casting distance. With the meaty thighs, it should have more realistic mouth feel and the bass will hold on longer. Easy and very cheap to replace grub legs. Have not been able to fish with it yet, but I tossed the old rubber band legs...they are history.
@drmitofit2673
@drmitofit2673 7 лет назад
I made a correction to the first reply. I used 3" to 4" curly tail grubs depending on the size of the frog body (not 2" to 3"). 2" grubs are used to catch bluegills and crappie. We are going after lunker bass!
@rickfaubert5732

Mark Hom frogs with skirts are meant for walking and fishing in vegetation slow. Like real slow, when I fish a frog I want to keep it in the high probability areas as long as I can even walking it side to side a minimum of 10 times in less than a foot and always pause it in holes in thick vegetation for a few walks. The sprinkler frog and it's variations are meant as search baits, fast moving and covering a ton of water like you would with a buzz bait style bait. I stick with one brand mainly and that's snag proof and my frog of choice is the "phat frog' in the basic colors either brown or plain green. Frog fishing is a category all its own and takes time to master and get down kinda like punching. You gotta know what targets to cast to, how long to soak it ect. All in due time! Good luck and catch some mondos!

@capitolbassfishing
@capitolbassfishing 7 лет назад
Angel Tellinghuisen 5.25lb, scaled, maybe the go pro fish eye makes it appear smaller. Still not a giant but in northern VA = big bass, in Florida maybe not that big.

Joe Simpson it looked smaller on film. But a 5.25 is definitely a solid fish! Good job bro!!

Not to sound mean but your perception is a tad off. You can tell that it's a big bass when he's holding it up. In comparison to his hands and how the bellies folding when two handing it, also how big the mouth is. But you do have a point about the video is giving it a smaller look. Video makes it look like tunnel vision almost. Regardless or not. 2 or 5 it was an awesome catch sir!
