SL3, M11, and M11 Monochrom. Trust me, it's worth it; if you wanna save money, the M10 Monochrom is insanely great as well, but the battery and USB-C of the M11-style body is great for travel to save space and battery cross-compatibility. If you stay in the M10 system, the M10R is incredible as well; for a while, I had that and the M10 Monochrom as my two-M system. I find the Q2 Monochrom as an awesome B&W video camera if you're completely dedicated to that style of video, but that's pretty niche. Bottom line: invest in lenses as you can use the M lenses across both systems. The SL lenses are incredibly sharp, but are missing that M lens character. I'll never sell my Q2 as it was my first experiment with Leica and sent me down this very expensive but incredible rabbit hole. Love the video!

Well said Bryan, I love hearing people's different use cases and take on things and you always hear something new. I never thought about shooting BW video only with the Q2, so interesting, now I want to try that.

my combo is a Leica M11 Monochrom and a Fuji XT-5 for allround collor and a Ricoh GR3 for on the go ... But my most used is the M11 Monochrom

Q3 was my gateway, it's beyond amazing. It was bought with a sigh of relief after using a trio of Ricoh GR III cameras exclusively for two years. For more serious stuff, the M240 and M246 scratch that itch. Some Leica and Voigtlander glass, with a Helios thrown in for good measure, round out the kit.

The Q is always the gateway, I had a participant in my Vietnam workshop let my wife borrow his Q3 and I was just thinking , here we go :).

A Q2 Monochrom was the gateway to Leicas for me. i regrettably sold it, but console myself with an M6 TTL, digital CL, silver SL2, M11, and M11 Monochrom. As you noted, the Q2M is a different experience than the M11. I’m tempted to get one again.

As a working professional, I use all 3 lines: Q and M for personal work, SL (2S and 3) for professional stuff. For the SL, it’s really simple: go Lumix S. Also check out the lenses. The 50 and 85 f1.8 are really very good. Also on a Leica body. For my personal stuff I use a Q2 Reporter and an M11-P with a 50-Lux and sometimes the 75-APO. The combination of 28 and 35 of the Q and the 50 and 75/90 on the M, gives you great flexibility, without too much fumbling around with different lenses. As an alternative, may I suggest the Lumix G9 or GX9 with the 12-60 Leica? Super versatile for stills and video and nowadays, pre-owned a bargain. The Leica glass for M43 is still fantastic. Not as great as an APO-SL or M, but way better than most (kit)zooms. There are some affordable and travel-friendly options for wide (8-18) or long 50-200) as well. That way, the limitations of a Q (28mm only) or an M (not suited for telelenses) are eliminated for those odd use-cases.

My Combo currently is Leica Q2 and Leica SL (601). On the SL, I use M lens and a Leica SL 24-90. I think these two camera complement each other well. The digital view finder is what drives my combo. The Leica SL is still a phenomenal camera. I may upgrade the SL to a used SL2 at some point because of the image stabilization.

Always good to have options. Depending on where and what I am feeling. I may bring the M10M with 28,50 and the Q2 just in case the weather turns real bad. If i have my backpack and carrying more then I will have SL3 with SL2 and the M10M, and a selection of lenses/ I try to keep the backpack weight under 28Lbs. This will then open the use of R and S lenses as well.

A backup option for me is an adapter for my Nikon mirrorless system, which I am committed to for wildlife , with 500mm lenses and such. Thought about a Leica DSLR but why when I have already have all the capabilities I need - IBIS and all - in my present system. So my backup for M system would be an adapter for any system you already have. Good thought exercise here.

I use two Fuji X-Pro1 APS-C digital mirrorless cameras as second and third cameras to my Leica M10 digital rangefinder. I have 16/23/56mm lenses for my Fuji. I have 21/35/90mm lenses for my M10.

I still love using my Leica TL2 and I carry around a LUMIX GX85, as well. My future camera setup I want to have is an SL2s with the M to L adapter using M mount lenses. I love the M bodies but not thrilled about sending it off for weeks/months at a time for maintenance, etc. That huge VF of the SL2s is gorgeous and I had a chance to play with a Summicron 50 v5…wow what a combo! I use two Contax G1 35mm film rangefinders as second and third cameras to my Leica M6. I have 21/28/45/90mm lenses for my Contax. I have 21/35/90mm lenses for my M6 35mm film rangefinders.

Great video and good thing to bring up. I do believe there needs to be more than one camera in a set for someone. Originally a Nikon shooter for years. Got into Leica, started with the Q2 (gateway drug) and ended up with a M11 and a film M. That eco system suits me best and I do use all.

Most Leica users I've met are in the same frame of mind. Own and use an M because you gotta, then supplement with a compliment that *hopefully* has a touch of the M feel too. The Q is so good here. Switching between them feels pretty second nature, thanks to the lens having a more analogue manual focus experience than typical AF lenses. Not to mention the similar form factor. I'm addicted to that old color science- so I'm on the M240 + Q116. Love my old beaters.

Q2 user, using it as much like an M as I can, and will probably go to a used Q3 system in the future. The M is the dream. If I was younger in my career, it would be the SL3. But I want a slower experience now for personal work.

M10R and Black Paint MP film camera. Happy as can be. Also have the GRIII… I’d disagree about it being something for bad weather, that camera is pretty fragile, but I love it as my “just in case” camera. But if I got room, M10R is the daily carry.

Leica-10P (35mm Summicron and 50mm 1.4 Summilux), and Q2. The Q2 is a great travel camera, love it, small and compact, especially as it's weather sealed. It can bounce around the camera bag 'easier' than the M I feel. Great that it has auto and manual focus (macro too), and the auto is always good for candid street shots - I fear I'd miss a lot of this stuff with my M, but maybe that is just me.

M10-R with Voigtlander lenses, SL2 with Sigma lenses. Thinking of selling SL2 for Lumix S5 II. I don’t shoot video, and S5II’s 24MP is a little scarry. nice video! Q2M might be interesting.

Hi Justin. Great video! I am just starting out again writing articles and pitching, including taking accompanying photos. I can't afford a Leica yet...I don't think anyway. I'm looking at buying a Sony A7cii or 7iv or something in that range. Is that good enough to use in the right hands for professional photography to compete do you think? Sorry, a bit off topic for your video though.

Thanks Steven, yes of course the Sonys are incredible cameras and the A74 especially can do it all. You can compete and shoot professionally with just about any digital camera to be honest and buying older used models will save you a lot of money.

M11-P for me that's it for now. I really want an S3 as another camera. Pretty affordable used nowadays in comparison to what it was and it's a weather-sealed tank. I think I would enjoy that different shooting experience along with medium format gorgeousness. Plus I love the way it looks and it doubles as a self-defense weapon haha.

I"ve got an SL3, M11-P, Q3 and Lumix S5IIx. I use the SL3 for my commercial portrait and documentary work. I use the M11-P for street, documentary and personal projects and sometimes travel. I use the Q3 as a daily driver and travel camera mostly. And lastly, use the S5IIx as a backup to my SL3, as well as video and secondary stills. I just got the S5IIx and was pretty blown away by what you get for the cost. It's almost like an updated SL2-S with proper AF or dare I say the precursor to what we'll see in an SL3-S? It also seems to match the colors of the Leica SL series pretty well. It has its quirks, but I think it's the closest to a Sony AF experience, since the recent firmware update and the video features are incredible!

@@syrcular Thanks for your fast response! Uff... had hoped that the SL3 would be on par with the S5II(x). Have had the SL2 and Q2 but finally sold both, was using a Panasonic S5II in the meantime . Have bought an M11-P recently, so autofocus is no problem anymore :) I am really happy about the small footprint of body and lenses. Just hope that Leica fix the annoying magenta cast (WB).

Olga Karlovac does some amazing B&W artistic stuff with the Ricoh GR, but she is on at least her third one because weather resistant they are definitely not. Fortunately she can do her thing with an older model used camera.

@@AskMOTT Too much, I know! Just upgraded to the SL3, so maybe the SL2 will have to go at some point, but it's great to have it as a backup, and I sometimes get to do video, so the 3 bodies are very useful!

I only carry one camera at a time since I am not a professional. Usually M11. Q3 for versatility, and M-P for film. SL2-S was too big for an everyday camera.

Isn't the Sofort simply a rebadged Fujifilm Instax? Leica says they have a partnership with Panasonic and an arrangement with Fujifilm. That being the case, wouldn't an Instax save some money while providing the same experience, albeit without the red dot?

You could definitely go that route , I like using it seamlessly with the Leica Photos app but perhaps you could also do that with the Fuji but I’m not sure . So I like sending files from my m10d to Leica photos and then printing them w the Sofort.

Ah, that makes sense. I have a Fujiflim X-Pro 3 and an old Instax printer that I occasionally use to print directly to when out and about and I want to give someone a print. Always a big hit.

we are so spoiled in this generation with technology. The normal person which is the masses will not be able to tell the difference within all these cameras for photos. As far as video? sure there will be a difference.
