In a country that doesn't care about everyone having food and a home, helmets are the least of its problems.

E-bike battery range decreases FAST as you increase motor speed. I'm here in the USA, where 28mph is fair game on an ebike, and I can tell you, your range at 28mph is much more reduced than the 25% you were guessing. The range difference for me, as a rider who also pedals with effort, is that my electric range is cut in half when I go from 20mph to 28mph. It makes sense, if you consider that wind resistance increases at the square of velocity. A human putting in a bit of effort can cruise at 14mph. An ebike at 20mph needs just over double the energy, and one rolling at 28mph needs FOUR TIMES the energy. So, at 14, you're doing most of the work, at 20, if you put in the same effort you're splitting the work with the battery, and at 28 with that effort level, the battery is doing 75% of the work - and there's much more work to do! Even if you exert yourself hard to get to 28, which I do and it appears you did, too, the battery is still doubling its output.

I already used a other trick to make my bike think that it is going slower then it actually is. Does the speed box 2 unlock the mother/make it go faster or would it be no help.

For those of you wondering about the 504 Error, I rode my Trek Allant 2022 model for commuting and even after 700 miles of riding the error didn't occur. Don't avoid the countdown, as annoying as it is, it prevents the system from detecting the tuner for you. You can wait 5 min and it even auto shuts off. As long as you do what the speedbox organization directs you to do, you should be fine with the speedbox 3.0. Happy ebiking!!

There's a speed restriction setting in your settings on the computer on your bike where you set the peddle assist function. You can adjust the speed restriction

Mine iant restricted. I bought a Chinese ebike kit, with a 1000w power-packed and a 52v motor. It does 38mph, but I want a faster set up which goes for more than 20 miles. Can anyone help.

In Canada our bikes come in box with 32 km/hr. but some companies show you easy way to get to more through settings so you won't need to remove limiter or add anything. I have the Bolt X from Rizer that allows you to go into settings to change speed, mine now goes up to 57 km/hr. (35 miles), which we could consider fast since in Canada the law actually only allows 32 km/hr (19.88 miles an hour). For people with ebikes even faster than that 57 km/h my bike would seem slow.

Good on you for resisting the helmet coolaid. Keep it out of GB as long as you can. We didn't in Australia, ended up with a law, and regret it now. It's so much harder to reintroduce the bicycle as a utility option. Only recently they've made getting an exemption easier which many will go for. But it should never have got to that point. Thanks for a great discourse on hacking the speed limiter.

People born in my era rarely wore helmets riding bikes. We also were taught growing up to ride against traffic so you can see the cars and they can see you. Today People ride with a helmet and keep their head safe but get hit from behind by a car and break the rest of their bones.

I don't really do they restrict the top speed of the bikes but they limit the power of the motor to 250 W which is very small.

I live in a farming village and haven't worn a helmet in ten years, virtually never in my bike riding life, cities included. Actually, I only wear a helmet paragliding and snowboarding. But to be honest, I believe half of the clumsy human species should probably wear a helmet walking.

Fell off my bike wearing a high quality MIPS Giro helmet at around 5mph knocking my head on the ground. I ended up in an ambulance after passing out twice in public with an overnight stay in hospital for observation. It took me a month to recover from a very minor brain trauma. The incident made me realize just how fragile we are - in short don’t skimp on a helmet! (and gloves for that matter)

I don't wear a bicycle helmet or motorcycle helmet. I do wear one when I climb & wear a seatbelt when I drive. Live your own life.

You don't need to worry about the private road thing. With a bosch motor you can switch between legal and off road with a press of the walk button. That said it does invalidate your warranty and the bosch motors come with four years.

It’s actually quite good and tackles hills with ease but I may do this “modification” - would it work on that bike do you know? In most states of Australia, perhaps all, cycle helmets have been compulsory for all bike riders for around 20 years, even if only going to the shops in a country town like where I live as well.

I think that there is a quite reason for limiting the power given at the certain speed, and by no means that would be the battery consumption. And also, from my point of wiew and my point of expirience, i would say that messing with the power won't do you any good, because you still have to pedal like a horse, to get to the speed of 30mph, i think this would make sence if you had an ebike twist or thumb throttle. But still it is a nice that you presented this way of bypassing the factory defaults, and always it is good to have something hacked, it makes life funnier and different. Heh. I know a person who has fallen of a bike at standstill - luckily was wearing a helmet. Broke the hip bone. So, a helmet isn't straightly correlated with speed or distance - however it certainly helps when come accident.

In case you are wondering about the .5 mph of the 15.5 mph, it's really 25 kph. As for wearing a helmet, you are crazy not to. I was going through a parking lot 6 months ago and a car backed into me. I was going about 5 mph. Before I could react, I hit the ground landing on my head and splitting my helmet in two. Without the helmet, I'd be dead or worse brain dead. On the way down, I hit the handlebars fracturing 4 ribs and slicing my left leg requiring 15 stitches to stop the bleeding. I was unconscious for 20 minutes and ended up with a concussion. If you really think you can catch yourself...you can't. It happens too fast. As for changing the speed of the bike, my fat-tired 1000W bike has a secret setting for speed allowing my to set it for up to 99 mph. Of course it can't go that fast but it will hit 37 mph on throttle and 42 mph pedaling on level ground. In the US, bikes are allowed 20mph top speed with a throttle and 28 mph (45 kph) without a throttle.

I also ride, at times, sans helmet. I don't think I do it often enough to be a ****quit though. LOL Thanks for the humor and the information.

But they have eBike kits 1500 watts that go 35 to 40 mph on eBay you can put them on any bike those are the ones that you can do wheelies with a thousand watt to 1500 w you can't do a wheelie like he said on that amount of speed not for long anyway I'm talking without pedaling too

It's individual choice regarding pushbike helmets until the law says otherwise. Since I stopped wearing one however I have noticed the snarky comments and sometimes outright abuse from let's call them idiots have dropped to almost zero. I know you shouldn't let idiots influence safety issues but I found it more relaxing to get home from work without confronting people. I will however be getting another helmet. Let the fun begin.

Regarding a helmet;) you will wear one after you get your first accident! Those things saved me twice. Now I wear a full helmet on my emtb even in the city!!!!

By the way,I have converted my mountain bike to an Ebike,but by using an external 500 watt 48v Motor running on a separate chain and sprocket. If you get any Ariel Rider bikes, you can go 33mph with ease. I have the Kepler 52v, its well worth the price, better than most high end e-bikes.
