Wow man.Your a great teacher. I watched part one.Practiced as I went through. Then watched part two and I can already do it one string…I could totally see how without instruction it could take months.Thumbs up!😂

The most truly best and unbelievable version of this technique folks is Mark’s work on the song “10,001” by Tetrafusion.

7 years later with part 2 and it's great to have this lesson. You also haven't aged at all... I guess the secret to being this good at bass is to be a vampire first :)

I played "normal" or "bounce" slap exclusively for 16 years and these 2 lessons were the only thing that i found that actually made me get it. the part about just trying to slap/pluck gently before trying real slap is the one thing you emphasize that nobody else does. I can't express enough gratitute 😊 after about 6 months i can finally pull this off on stage. Any recommendations for advanced exercises and practice material with this technique?

Nice😎 You're a great teacher, soooo detailed on finger / thumb placement .... I'm sure this will help me a lot👍 BTW, I have a fortress 1 and have had problems with the active sound cutting out .... I'm pretty sure it's not the pickups even though i do give them a bit of a beating when doing the Luis Johnson fore and middle finger hitting them like a drum😂 Had a tech have a go at fixing it but it started happening again .... I feel it may be from the jack input .... Luckily it has the pull up volume pot to play passive or I'd be stuffed playing live... Your bass looks too new so I guess you haven't had this problem ... Any ideas ?

Hey man! Congratulations on having a Fortress, I played one in 1999 and it’s body shape felt so badass. I have a 99’ Corvette 6-string Bubinga Standard. The thing has been through a lot but luckily I have a local bass tech guy who has fixed such problems and sometimes the wires get loose inside the compartment. Perhaps there is a wiring problem and if it’s related to the jack that could be from bending the cable while plugged in…. ??? Either way, feel confident that your Fortress will make it through no matter the year because Warwick’s were made to last a lifetime!!👊🤟✌️

Also, check that battery

Thanks for the kind words! And I appreciate you joining the live stream on Tuesday! So it doesn't cut out when in passive mode, but sometimes in active mode? Is it the stock MEC (Warwick brand) pickups and preamp? Could be a faulty pot (the active/passive one not making a solid connection to the battery engagement). I'd spray some contact cleaner inside of each pot from the back cavity. Hard to diagnose remotely...but I can't imagine it's a hard fix. Try that for now!

Couldn’t one dedicate time to both every day? Half hour thumb then a half hour to plucks for example. Is it necessary to master thumb first and then plucks?

It's just my suggestion due to the order in which you need to develop the muscle memory. It takes a long time, and taking it slow provides the best results with other students I've worked on this with over the years.

Do light gauge strings make this technique easier ?

I don’t think string gauge changes anything about the technique’s learning curve - just the preferred tone, really. Good luck with it!
