Heads up, couldn’t get link to work. “Step 2” is just a blank page. Tried in chrome and safari on my phone.

I agree with this except that I think the net player should have crossed to ad side as soon as his partner ran behind him to retrieve the volley. And as soon as the lob looks successful then the baseline player can just move a few steps straight ahead and net player is already in place

Was thinking the same,... except in a match, as the net person, I Might misjudge how far over the ball went. Another solution is for the baseline person to call “switch”

3:33 I think the guy on the right on the service line needs to switch over to the left, and the baseline guy then has shorter distance to move up to the right side service line.

See i think the baseliner should go far left and then the net player a step in to the left of the middle of the net...i play 4.0/4.5 level people and it's rare they can make the super short cross court angle. the net player can essentially cover the entire net except a forehand right down the line. probably me taking advantage of the low level i play at.

I use a kicker out wide, and my strategies is to serve so slowly that the opponent falls asleep and it’s a easy ace, I also like hitting lobs so high I almost hit an airplane, that might be a problem in the future. As you noticed I like to poke fun at myself! I totally agree with your analysis Coach. Great job on the video Coach. I started a channel called playing tennis at 50, and I gave you a shout out on my channel, I started using your drills and I lost 35 pounds in 3 months and my game has improved, I just started playing tennis again after a 22 year hiatus my friend.

Yeah good points in this video. I've already been doing what the video explains , when i see my doubles opponent moving back its always best to come into the court to the service line ready for they return , probably a volley and if good volley close in further for next shot. Plus with an over head i know to mostly target the volleyers feet at the net , if you target the baseliner they're just going to return easy and you could end up playing 3/4/5 smashes in a row which can be tiring and end up losing the point. @2minutetennis I don't agree to never smash down the middle as the volleyer because if there is a wide enough space to aim for down the middle with your opponents far apart then i'd say its the correct shot.

Net guy should have switched across ? So the guy at the base line can take his place ?
@tonyhernandez9632

I think the mistake the server's partner made wasn't hitting to the middle - it was not hitting it deep enough. I hit to the middle quite often, but I hit it deep in the middle, which is nearly always out of reach of the returner.

Question, if I’m the opponents lob the ball and their feet are on the service line , where should I hit the ball ?
@2MinuteTennis
@2MinuteTennis 9 месяцев назад
You want to lob really high and force an error off their overhead. The higher you lob the harder it is for the opponents to time their shot.

One very clear mistake is why the guy standing behind stand directly behind the guy volleying on the same side of the court ? Thats the most unforgiving schoolboy mistake. This is the most basic in doubles. Never leave one side of the court empty.

My thought after white baseliner's lob was for him to stay around center of deuce side, and net player should cross to ad, leaving the opponents with the only (good) option of a short cross court. Anyone better than me able to say that's a good idea? Lol

U can volley middle but need to hit the ball deep
@mightbefire

The net guy's in the right spot after the lob. At this level, or even down to 4.5, you're not going to have time to move forward from the service line if they try to pass you. And most lobs in that position aren't going to be winners, so you'll have time to move back to cover them. I would get passed all day if I stayed at the service line after a lob like this. I'm going to the net to win the point, like his partner would have if he had moved forward with his partner. He played a terrible point and got lucky to win it.

This video reminds me of Lendl who was considered by many to be the vilain simply because he had no problem playing on his opponents bodies. I ve never had issues with those shots except maybe when one has an easy put away and there is no reason to play the body. All of that to say that I believe the first volley is probably by fear to hurt the opponent which I find very strange especially considering how obnoxious those players typically are with one another. ok to cheat, ok to scream “c’mom” at every point but I guess not ok to play on one’s feet (and therefore potentially other parts of body).

I play differently against people based on if I know they'll hit me or not. The nice ones lose points.

Interesting. This won't be a popular comment but although the games are vastly different, I'm here to see how these strategies can be applied to pickleball. Valuable insight about the lob and potential lob counter therefor leading to the positioning. Thanks for sharing.

It wouldn't have mattered where he volleyed that ball. The way he bounced that down, any D1 player would have covered that ball. Was a bad volley in general.

I would never stand on the service line. ever. You're too far for a volley and too close for a ground stroke, horrendous place to be. No way can you get to the net to volley from there if you're playing anyone decent
