Got to meet and chat with Cosmo for about an hour back in 97 after a festival gig. Real down to earth and full of positive vibes and advice for a younger musician like me. Their band was playing as Creedence Clearwater Revival Revisited and my band got to open for them. I told him that CCR was to me like the Beatles were to the older folks. He really appreciated that. Great to see you again Cosmo! Like you once told me, "Never quit and keep doing what you love brother!"
Really good interview. Enjoyed the story of Elvis playing Proud Mary for the band. People might consider the Beatles as the greatest influence on rock and roll. But I feel like it was Elvis.
I don’t think the Beatles influenced rock and roll- they influenced contemporary and later rock music. The likes of Elvis, Chuck Berry, Little Richard, have an influence from almost a decade earlier. So I don’t think you can compare Elvis and the Beatles as they weren’t peers. The Beatles themselves were influenced by Elvis. However I don’t hear much Elvis influence in music from the 80s, 90s, 00s. His brand of rockabilly/rock n roll is outdated by then.
Great interview. Few times was thinking "hurry up Doug and finish the sentence without all the umms and ahhs : ) " but it was still good to hear honest answers & Dougs thoughts from what he recalls from the past.
Doug has some real health concerns and great challenges including Parkinson's disease and he has had a cancer episode he has had treatment for - among other health problems. I'm thankful he is as lucid as he is and still possess a tremendous memory with lots of wonderful stories to tell.
Chris Freeman seems to more than most people! Tom Fogerty's son Jeff, told me that Doug's been getting treatment for the cancer! I met Doug Clifford an a short cruise about 30 years ago. It's very sad to see him in the condition he's in!
Golden Gate Bridge, Oakland San Francisco Bridge, San Rafael Bridge, three bridge views he mentions. "I Heard It Through the Grapevine" Classic, excellent instrumental Rock recording with CCR 's Cosmo on percussion.
Hands down one of the greatest rock drummers ever and probably THE most underrated drummer ever! Love Doug Clifford and CCR. It's unfortunate that John is so screwed up that he ruined my all time favorite band.
@davidkirkham6497 Dave, my point blew right over your head. You're misunderstanding me. And I say that kindly. Not being sarcastic or jerky or mad. I love John Fogerty. He is awesome and a brilliant musician. Where he is "screwed up" is in his emotions and attitude. His choices towards the rest of the band directly caused the entire break up of CCR. That's what I meant. Not how awesome and brilliant he was/is as a singer, songwriter, and musician. There's absolutely no question about those facts. John is forever an all time great. 😊
@@getreal3336 Well, that’s your opinion! When your the “leader” and the person instrumental to the success of some entity, decisions have to be made! Some may not like, however, they have to be made! If you were such a leader & people wanted to undermine your decisions, would you like that? I doubt it. You would throw up your hands & state “ ok, if you think you can to better, go ahead and try. Do you get the picture?
No Dave. I've been in the position and didn't act like a baby, throw up my hands and say, "my way or the highway" and then walk away. Life doesn't work like that. As a union company superintendent in charge, I worked multiple times on getting people to come together amidst disagreements and dissention and got everyone to come to a fair middle ground and continue on for the overall betterment and the common good. See, that's the way adults are supposed to act. So how much more so with your own brother and your best friends, like with CCR? You need to go listen to some videos of Doug's on the subject. Go get it straight from 1 of the horses mouths, directly involved.
@@getreal3336I don’t believe much of what Doug Clifford, states! He has an selective memory when it comes to how things went down. I mean what else can he say. He was not that talented. Pretty good drummer, thats it. If you as a “supervisor” want to put up with people second guessing you, your not much of a “supervisor!” You must be pretty passive person. Most result drive people are not passive. John Fogerty was a result driven artist, his results speak for themselves!
Mardi Gras was an incomparable embarrassment. A total artistic failure that clearly showed how John was the only real talent in CCR. The others were low-level session hacks and no more than a neighborhood garage band.
yep they fukd up, shoulda stuck with the man and rocknrolled for ever, sad part is we all lost out due to there stupidity i would have done anything to keep that train on the tracks
Theres No question about John Fogerty being the driving force behind CCR, but as a band in regards to Stu ,Doug and Tom they had a chemistry and a groove that one cant simply disregard or dismiss as just low level garage musicians.
@@erniericardo8140 Respectfully disagree. Doug and Stu could play and minimally write licks, or a full tune with some help. They could not create or produce hit music. That was all John, and they all likely knew it but could not accept it. They were then and have since been nothing but paid shills who hack their instruments. They’re not terrible, but hardly more than average quality musicians. The truth may hurt, but that doesn’t make it an insult. The death of CCR wasn’t just an issue between John and Tom that was tragic and personal, and soullessly exploited by Saul Zaentz. Mardi Gras was a last gasp of life from a dead band. It’s painful to listen to much of it, and just as painful to remember. They had lightning in a bottle for a flash, and then it was gone because three of them never knew what they had because it was John.
