In a landscape where the online retail experience seems to be constantly expanding, what does this mean for more traditional brick-and-mortar stores? Doug Stephens, author of "Re-engineering Retail: The Future of Retail in a Post-Digital World" examines how and why physical stores need to change in order to survive.

Shrinkflated experiences products? or just hype to bring us in with corporate precurated experiences based on big data and consumer profiling? What you see is what you get or what you see you think you get is shrinkflated product service.

I would rather go to a store to EXAMINE the merchandise. I think using Amazon as a Model has its limitations and it is overstated. I think by dismissing actual retail shops you are cutting off your nose to spite your face. A great product in a great store which has an online website so you can buy is twice as able to sell than one selling corporately made personalised experiences.

People want home delivery. That's the only reason why Ecommerce is booming. It's not about having more variety. It's not about being informed on social media. It's IS about Laziness. In my opinion this business model is not sustainable. There are so many factors that are contributing to this that are hidden and not popular to talk about. How can retail numbers be so high YET home ownership is practically a myth for millennials and future generations? Old people are splurging away their retirement money opposed to passing it down as inhertance. They are moving back in with their now adult children to be cared for. Adult earners typically have moochers who rely on their paychecks to pay for online shopping. The stay at home wife. Their 30 year old kid that still lives in the basement. Good old sister sue who divorced her hubby and just needs a place to crash for a few years etc... the list goes on. Typically there is one good bread winner and lots of mice to feed in this modern day economy. Even those who work hard earning slave wages still in some way are feeding off that one person in the family who is making 6 figures. Nobody is saving for the future. They're spending. Unwisely spending at that. Online ordering, mark my words, WILL be the next economical crisis that will send us into another recession much like the housing bubble. "People are spending checks that their bodies can't cash" Carpe Diem. There are consequences from the booming Ecommerce trend. It's slow, it's hidden and it's growing.

Laziness has consequences. Sooner or later these people will have to get off the couch, put some pants on and own up to responsibility
