We never saw the best of Doug Walters in England. That was our loss. He was a larrikin and a match winner. He played attacking cricket with natural skill. He has attacked life with even greater verve and enjoyment. Good on him, I say!
One of best from Australia indeed, The Australian team before getting hammered from West Indies in 79-80 series was a high class side. Ban, If u can remember why Walter didn't play in 79-80 seried when West Indies defeated Aus 2-0 ??? If i can remember now Bruce Laird played as an opener although did well but Walters was class apart.
Mark Waugh was drastically overrated he only averaged 42. Lehmann was a much better batsman averaging 57.5 in Shield Cricket at a time when runs were easier to make in Test than Shield.
