Absolutely underrated as a bass guitar "artist" in the true sense - I ASK YOU - when was the last time ANY bassist took you on this kind of a sonic journey ? Just amazing / innovative / ingenious / novel. The problem with human nature and fame is that he would have to die to then get a reputation as one of the "best of all time" - and all that other nonsense.
this guy is un-fucking-believeable! And like I'm sure many have posted about this guy, he DEFINITELY embodies the spirit of Jaco, but with totally his own ideas and musicality..... holy shit! :)
Ironically, my fave part of this is at 4:20 when he starts tweaking his pedal. He's just into the coolness of the sound; almost looks like he's in a trance state. Very cool!
Outside of Jazz fans, many more people know of Dougie's music, his basslines built the foundation for hiphop in the late 70's to early 80's, then Tackhead broke down the walls between funk/dub/industrial. One of the most influential bands of the era.
@Tochudin investigate that this song is from funk jungle disk, Vinx, Will Calhoun and DW the riff of the beginning is played in the song perculator and sorry but portrait of tracy but has no similar with this song...no disrespect to anyone
For all you people music does not half to make sense. He is doing what he does and that's playing great funky brace with some great harmonics all this needed was a bit of drums and it's sorted.
Although I will agree that its pointless to compare musicians, especially across generations, I cant agree that music isn't competitive. In fact, its one of the most competitive markets there is.
man..... i can barely play that fast with 2 fingers and even slower with a pick but this guys kills me with his damn THUMB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! great job doug hahaha
Weird and wonderful playing there, but am I missing something? On the side it says "alison goldfrapp (vocals)" but she doesn't appear to be here?? I only saw a flash of her between 1:40 and 1:50, does she ever actually sing on this show? I'm just interested to see more of her before Goldfrapp formed.
@clifton062 "An ear for the bass guitar"? What the hell does that mean? Nothing against Wooten, but which one of those two bassists has their phone ringing constantly for sessions and gigs?
1:28 its almost bein in heaven its so fucking relaxing its another song of doug¿? or thats all? i will love that there was a full song with that riff sorry about my bad english
I agree that technically he is great but I do not find one single note of this pleasurable to listen to. It is horrible noise. Would someone actually put on a CD of this and listen to it?
