In July 2024, Douglass Fake regrettably passed away at the age of 72.
Doug was a soundtrack producer, a visionary record label founder, a media store proprietor, and a film music legend.
Doug's personal touch can be seen and heard on over 700 soundtrack-related projects.
For nearly 40 years, Doug successfully grew the soundtrack business with Intrada Records. He disovered, restored, and issued scores from the Golden Age of cinema to the present day. He made new recordings of scores close to his heart. From obscure gems to bona fide classics, Doug championed it all.
I wanted to create this video to pay my respects to a titan of the industry, one who leaves a tremendous hole yet an equally tremendous legacy for us all to savor.

See more photos and Thierry’s involvement with Jerry Goldsmith, Mike Ross-Trevor, and Soundtrack! Quarterly magazine here: facebook.com/profile.php?id=61557597973208 "The photo has been taken by a good friend of mine who granted me to use it. I even didn't realized he was shooting since I was concentrated with some discussion with Mike Ross and Douglass Fake, who indeed were very opened to chat with fans. I had been introduced to Doug by Mike whom I had interviewed the year before (so 1988) for SOUNDTRACK QUARTERLY magazine, the belgian film music journal from Prometheus Records' Luc Van de Ven (director and owner). That's the way it happened. We all were so passionated with Jerry Goldsmith's music...a true enjoyement this seminar was."

That was a beautiful tribute to Doug. Thank you for taking the time and effort of putting this online for all of us to enjoy. It was very uplifting as well. One of the things about Doug's work along with everyone at Intrada is they are not only preserving some of the greatest film music of our time and making it available but they are preserving legacies of commissioned music that don't happen anymore. Symphonic music is rarely produced on the scale of film scores where you have sometimes 120 to 140 minutes worth of music that takes you on an incredible journey but film music does just that and Doug was such a huge champion of keeping these journeys alive and available for all of us.

I know just how you feel Chris. I’ve been in a bad funk this whole past week since finding out. He was a sweet and genuine guy and I miss him. I wish I’d realized that our conversation together on MacArthur late last year was the last time I’d actually speak with him.

Thank you for your thoughts, Yavar. I’m sad for you and the Odyssey Team. It was always a treat to hear Doug on the podcast. It was even more of a treat to be on a show with him and hear his enthusiastic and educational thoughts in real-time. I was always happy to just listen.

"...the greatest soundtrack producer of all time." That's a bold statement. Also one that hadn't occurred to me until you said it, the possibility and it's likely truth. - David

Through the lenses of longevity, quantity of releases, participation at multiple levels of the production process, working with every major studio, supporting new artists, making new recordings, running a label, building the industry, and financing these activities… It will ruffle some feathers, but I think it’s a fair assessment today.
