If you love Doves then you are a friend of mine simple as that! They 've saved my life so many times since I discovered them circa 2002. I have this little playlist to be played at my funeral and There Goes The Fear is in my top 3. Love Doves so, so much!!!
Love this band since i was teenager. I found them in MTV 120 Latin America. Qué gran banda son! Acabo de enterarme que sacaron album hace un par de años. Quisiera saber más de esta banda. La amo
Now for my probably said a million times comment of this band being so underrated They are so tight.. so melodic and I still to this day buzz of their performances So good live ! Jez guitar sticks out so much more than album version
Saw them in Ireland a few years back, open air festival, late evening, sun was setting behind the stage, they played this, hands in the air, taking it all in. True bliss.
I like to think I'm a big Doves fan, but this song is entirely unimportant. The vocal melody is thorougly meandering and pointless.. Which is a serious problem for me. In my view if you don't have a good melody then you don't have a song.
Dude give a listen to the guitar playing. Music is more than just the melody. Better example is the "instrumentals of rust" album which is the entirity of the "kingdom of rust" record with the melody / vocal stripped out. That album might give you a different perspective on all of their stuff. Half the time I'm not even listening to the melody or the words when I've got them on repeat. Jez Williams on guitar is where the magic happens. The man knows how to write music. Example: If your heart doesn't almost burst at 3:22 on the single version of "Carousels" (during the middle eight) at the end then check your pulse cos you might already be dead. All said in good fun ;)
If only more people listened to Doves and Portishead and less people listened to Coldplay and Amy Winehouse, the world would not be in the shite state it is in today.
