This is a video showing off my new Dovo Shavette.In this video I review an affordable, quality straight razor shavette by DOVO. A shavette is basically a hybrid between a straight razor and a safety razor. It has the blade of a straight razor, but it is housed in a handle that is similar to that of a safety razor. The blade is replaceable (as opposed to the blade on a straight razor which is not replaceable). The DOVO shavette comes with a 5 pack of DOVO-Super-Stainless-Steel-Blades. The blades are super sharp and will provide a close, smooth shave. The DOVO shavette is a good investment for anyone looking to start shaving with a straight razor, or who already shaves with a straight razor.
The DOVO Shavette is a razor that is designed to use double edge blades, or DE blades as they are called. The razor is made in Solingen Germany. The razor features a satin finish with a knurled grip for easy handling. While the razor is a straight razor, it does not require the skill of a straight razor. The razor is an excellent choice for both men and women who want to try out a straight razor shave. The DOVO Shavette is a unique razor that is affordable and I would highly recommend it.

the quality is unmatched. i've had this blade for more than 10 yrs until recently someone stole it from my luggage during my trip to DR. i been looking for it all over the internet ...... thank you for posting this video.

Great to do shaves with the black insert, crap with the red. Reasoning behind this ( for me, as a barber) the black is nice and wide and has corner protectors to prevent nicks, the red one also has corner protectors and the corner of the blade is what you use for detailing work around the temples and sideburns. I don't want a long blade doing this, I want a short blade for more control.

get a jar and put at least 91% rubbing alcohol in it. after you use it and rinse it off give it a dunk. The alcohol will displace water helping to prevent rust. Then at the end of the day or at least every few days put some mineral oil on it.

Recently received a Shavette from a friend of mine, and I've been trying to figure out how to load the DE blades. This video helped with that. I've been shaving with a Feather DE razor, and I'd like to ask how you typically store the half of the snapped blade that you're not yet using. Obviously for safety's sake, I don't want to have it just lying around, especially Feather blades. Very sharp indeed.

I simply snap it in half within the paper packaging. I only take out the half I need, and leave the other half still in the paper. I fold the paper in half and put it back in the box that holds the blades.

Thinking of trying out a $20-$30 shavette just because they look cool & fun to shave with :) I was curious, though: What does a shavette offer with a d.e. blade in it compared to a d.e. razor? I've been wet shaving with a Razorock d.e. for a few months now & love it.

Honestly in my opinion (3rd year doing this). DE is for a faster shave, and usually for a full shave. Straight line up / styling. Since i have a beard, i usually line it up and clean the neck. To me i use the straight since that is it's purpose.

I like your DOVO more than mine. I've got kind of a chrome blade area while yours is brushed metal. And my handle is brushed instead of black. But good review!

The stainless steel handle version is supposed to be slightly more expensive than the plastic handle version, it gives the razor some weight and better durability but also can be a little bit more slippery, I guess?

Absolutely, there are 2 versions of the sleeves. One is for smaller blades and one for large. It should come with both.

The red one, right? It’s been years since I got the shavette, I’m not sure what I did with it. Ill have to get some new ones. I’ve used the long dovo blades the whole time so I’ve been so used to the black guards that I didn’t even think of that.

Had it over a year. Sleeves are fine. You have to be sensitive using it. You can also buy replacements.

I'm a barber who takes great care of his tools...my red sleeve came apart literally in a month. I had to email fendrihan about it, and they gave me a credit because the sleeves are currently out of stock. For the price you pay for it, $50 CAD, it honestly feels so cheap. It's nice that it's light and agile, but for something in that price range to crap out on me so soon was really unexpected. I could have spent less on a parker style...heck you can even get a generic parker style for like five bucks on ebay lol

My boss uses a feather. My only qualms about it are not being able to use any DE blade I want lol feather blades are too unforgiving to use on clients. What I liked about the dovo was actually how aggressive you could be with it because of the piece covering the point. The personna single edge injector blades fit the feather as well, but the points on those blades cut the hell out of people, which is why I switched to the dovo! haha

Agree with you Kyle. Mine came with the clear sleeve which is the replacement for the red sleeve. 4 uses in and it was totally coming apart. Also found that the blade itself doesn’t hold well in the sleeve, it tends to slip in the sleeve even with slight pressure, meaning that it is no longer parallel to the shavette. It's a shame because I really wanted to like the Dovo Shavette but it just isn’t working for me

Is it true that the long blades cant be bought anymore and are discontinued? I was hoping to use more of the longer blades

I've actually never used the long blades, when I do I use the feather artist club with their blades. I prefer the shorter ones as they are much cheaper.

@@anonymous4201 I had a feather for around 4 years, I barely use it. Yes, it has a bigger blade but I don't use it. Also, the feather uses special blades which I am not a fan of. Also, it is thicker at the base, which makes me go in a weird angle.
