Thing is, Barry Humphries who plays the Goblin King is actually a really good singer. But the character of the Goblin King himself is actually supposed to be tone deaf. So Barry had to force himself to sing the song BADLY so it would be truer to the character.
I love how the goblins aren't just mindless monsters, like they're depicted often. They have a culture, an "architecture" of sorts, and they have the feel of an actual society, however warped.
Tolkien always seemed to have wrote then as the type to have civilizations and culture but were disgusting little creatures. He wrote the 3 trolls who nabbed Bilbo with a cockney British accent befitting of what'd be lower class type characters
Clap, snap, the black crack Grip, grab, pinch, and nab Batter and beat Make ‘em stammer and squeak! Pound pound, far underground Down, down, down in Goblin Town (Down, down, down in Goblin Town) With a swish and smack And a whip and a crack Everybody talks when they’re on my rack Pound pound, far underground Down, down, down in Goblin Town (Down, down, down in Goblin Town) Hammer and tongs, get out your knockers and gongs You won't last long on the end of my prongs Clash, crash, crush and smash Bang, break, shiver and shake You can yammer and yelp But there ain't no help Pound pound, far underground Down, down, down in Goblin Town
I think they confirmed they're different groups, Goblin Kings group was more akin to inbred hillbillies while the Moria Goblins were more militarised and ready to march for Mordor when the Fellowship bumped into them, GKs group were wiped out before the War of The Ring kicked off
Down in Goblin Town Lyrics: Goblin King: I feel a song...coming on... (Music starts) Clap, snap, the black crack Grip, grab, pinch, and nab Batter and beat Make ‘em stammer and squeak! Pound pound, far underground Down, down, down in Goblin Town (Down, down, down in Goblin Town) With a swish and smack And a whip and a crack Everybody talks when they’re on my rack Pound pound, far underground Down, down, down in Goblin Town (Down, down, down in Goblin Town) Hammer and tongs, get out your knockers and gongs You won't last long on the end of my prongs Clash, crash, crush and smish Bang, break, shiver and shake You can yammer and yelp But there ain't no help Pound pound, far underground Down, down, down in Goblin Town
Did anyone notice the goblin banging the gong was using a dwarven hammer, this would mean that this isn't the first time that the Goblins have encounted dwarves before 0:08
I think the Misty Mountain goblins are said to have frequently launched raids on nearby settlements, so they probably have snatched up many men and dwarves before. Not the human skeletons.
Even the gobbo king says "catchy isn't it?" like fuck yea dude I wish it was in the standard movie version, whenever I go back to the movie I watch extended version for this song ngl
@@mikearndt8210 i still sing that obe. The animated movie killed it with Tolkiens little written songs. The fact Peter Jackson glossed over a lot of it like the elves song too bugs me
Goblin King: Catchy, isn't it? It's one of my own compositions. Balin: That's not a song. It's an abomination! Goblin King: Abomination! Mutation, deviation! That's all you're gonna find down here.
So why exactly was the reason behind not including this in the theatrical? It's not that long & it gives the Goblin King more character. I realize he sings something different & shorter in the theatrical version, but still, were the filmmakers unable to finish the animation/rendering on time for the theatrical version & had to show a shorter version because of it?
It was genuinely so they could pad it out, and then make a directors cut, so they got the box office boom from both, it's very sad, but that's the case, not other reasoning than just money.
@@stgcjc7902 To be fair, one of the studios almost went bankrupt and pushed to make the two-parter a trilogy and cut the 1 year of pre-production. You should get some additional background insight before throwing out statements like that because while it is true, you could also just use your statements for every single movie production in existence and it's kinda insulting towards the people that work hard on movies.
Guernicaman As much as I enjoy listening to this, we all have to admit this is incredibly stupid. I like listening to this ironically, and don’t think it should be apart of any cut of unexpected journey.
Ok the 1977 one and this one are both really good in my opinion (I honestly think they are both really catchy). The older one was more serious, sinster, tense and dark. This one is more goofy, upbeat, and honestly just more fun to listen too they just set diffirent tones. I would recommend both its just really up to your opinion on which one you like more. (Still both are good)👍
(in heaven) Eru illuvatar:why did you corrupt the elves?! This things are uglier than you Morgoth: (captured) hey at least there intelligent well a little bit they build, have a culture, messengers, trade........ also the song isnt that bad it has a good composición Eru illuvatar:ugh well the song is a little good

Why does he stabs and chucks a goblin when there are dwarves right in front of him? Enemies of his nation that he could kill and achieve and even better effect
Perhaps he wanted to know the full gravity of the situation before deciding life or death. For all they knew, killing one of these dwarves would start an immediate war which is bad for the colony and himself. Better to talk to them first
just did a demo cover, used this vid for the sample and have linked this vid on the end card, please do give it a listen, its a rough cut that i plan to re do when i have more free time but would love some views and comments on it. not the best singer, not as good as the goblin king of course, all hail goblin town!!!
Also I think one of them hit their heads when they all start singing down down in goblin town for the first time you can see one look at the sky and start shaking his hands in the air
looking at the comments I want to say he is not the king of all the goblins, he was most likely just the most strongest and powerful in the mountains (apart from bolg) and probably had the highest manpower, he was the leader of his own tribe that resided in the mountains
the cartoon movie had a better song lyrically, this has a far better instrumental track going on behind it imo. Songs like this and "That's What Bilbo Baggins Hates" need a version that takes out the non essential things, the latter is fine with the plates and things clinking around as it adds to the beat but this one could do without all the creaking and stomping around that he does from time to time.
I'm confused. I have a disk of this movie and in this scene the goblin king says at the end "down in the deep of goblin town" at the end as well as other lyrics at the beginning someone explain.
In goblin slayer, it's based on the hobbit. Goblins does have kings called lords and other leaders. All goblins are all males doesn't matter how much they breed they always whine up males they raid villages to kidnap fair maidens. I wonder do they every establish that the goblins are all males in hobbit of their females are in hidden somewhere and are the females are more hotter than the males?. The hobbit goblins like savage tribal men but still they are alright still like them but I think asking these questions would be the goblins a bit more interesting but the song was catchy.
I can't believe they took the best scene out of the teathrical version. Unironically, my favorite part of the hobbit movies was the songs, why? Be Ouse they carry the silly child tale Spirit of the story
