Avalanche damage to UT-95 provided an option of: 7 hours of driving around the area, or descending the Moki Dugway switchback. Signs give ample warning, but not until you are about an hour and a half into the drive from the Capitol Reef National Park area. A local resident of Bluff Utah, informed me that uranium miners built the Moki Dugway to transport ore from the top of the butte to the bottom where it was processed. Wiki says, "The Moki Dugway was constructed in 1958 by Texas Zinc, a mining company, to transport uranium ore from the "Happy Jack" mine in Fry Canyon to the processing mill in Mexican Hat."
The vehicle in question is a 2019 Thor Venitian A-40 floor plan. The Freightliner chassis, is single rear axel equipped, Allison digital transmission, Cummins 9.6 ISL, factory brakes and susspension.

BEST VIDEO YET!!!! I'm planning a trip this way and have been watching all the videos I can. Yours is the best- just all one shot, top to bottom, no editing going back and forth or other nonsense! Also the best views of how high you actually are.😮 FANTASTIC!!!

I'd say you were nuts for attempting that drive, but you are obviously intelligent and judicious enough to do it safely. Very well executed! Thanks for helping me make my decision NOT to drive my truck and 30ft travel trailer down that road (solo) on a Sunday. I'll wait and do it from Mexican Hat without the trailer.

I took my family on the Mokie Dugway in 1999. We were vacationing in our 1997 Newmar MountainAir 40 foot Motorhome towing our 25 foot Charmac tow/car hauler. It was awesome !

Great video; thank you. I might drive down there tomorrow with a 26 ft. Class C. I probably would not have dared to do this without your video. Strangely enough, I drove up Moki Dugway with my RV last year - without knowing its name and reputation and without any problems (I just wondered that there was suddenly no pavement for some miles). However, I think driving up Moki Dugway is in any case easier than driving down. PS: I'm staying right now at Muley Point, which is at the end of a 5 mile dirt road that begins just before Moki Dugway's upper starting point. Muley Point is absolutely spectacular! I will certainly come back here.

Safe travels. I won’t make Utah this year, maybe in the spring.

I realize I'm quite late in adding a comment, but I had to. Absolutely breathtaking!! I've watched it 4 times and will do so several more times. Wonderful coordination with you and your wife. And, let's not forget that SHE had to drive that road, too. Congrats to you both. I live in West Texas, but this makes me want to find and drive that road. Of course my 26 foot Thor Axis would make it a bit easier, but still.....Thanks for sharing!!

Hello from Ouray Colorado. Thank you very much for your video! I have been wanting to take my 27 ft travel trailer to that area. And, of course, being on the top of the mesa would afford some incredible views, albeit more wind. I have a full length pick up, which would make for 50-55ft. I think I will just approach the top from the north via the Bears Ears way…..at least until I do the drive (I did it decades ago, so am not very current on my recollection of it) in my truck only. Safe driving!

Best of luck. It's a great adventure in either direction. Seeing Mexican hat at the bottom and camping for a few nights in Bluff made it even better (Even if those Bluff residents were all mask mandate nazis and vaccine proponents) Go for a steak at Comb Ridge in Bluff!

Very interesting. Biggest thing I ever drove was a big moving truck. Don't think I would want to drive a 40 foot motor home, they sure are nice though. Do you have central vac in that one lol.

Fun adventure. Thanks for taking us along! Those "two-way radios" on "discrete frequencies"... those weren't $18 Baofeng radios operating on HAM frequencies, right?
