See Gina Beck's version... you'll feel the anger radiating off her body language and her voice. This is obviously good but that is till date a favorite.
That "Deep as hell" sent chills down my spine! I thought Ramin was amazing, but JOJ Is also just as incredible, the amount of power he puts in his notes! So beautiful!
JOJ makes Ramin look like a schoolboy.... Technically perfect and a master vocalist..... His breathing and power are totally unmatched from any other phantom
John Owen Jones is my favorite Phantom after Michael Crawford. Just look how he acts the absolute hell out of this scene, yet he doesnt come off as hammy, but all too real. The way he reacts to the kiss is perfection, the sadness and tenderness in his eyes. And sually I dont start crying until the monkey music box starts up but the way JoJ was screaming for them to leave there and his breakdown afterwards put me in tears immediately. An absolutely OUTSTANDING performance.
@@melissam597 insufferable indeed! No matter what Phantom and Christine you’re watching, someone will pop up “Ramin and Sierra did it better”. So annoying!
I just love ramins voice...Sierra is ehhhhh on a lot of the songs like Gina beck I like on certain songs. I dont agree with love never dies but till i hear u sing is omg
Man it's amazing the difference in portrayals. JOJ brings out this tender and broken side to the Phantom that my heart breaks for him while Hugh Panaro brings out this sort of thrilling insanity to his Phantom. I love both actors so much and I'm forever blown away by their voices. And of course Rachel Barrell's still going to be one of my top favourite Christines. Perhaps her singing voice is a little shrill, but there's so much depth to her Christine that I find lacking in so many others.
Perfection. Absolute perfection. I'm a Ramin fan myself but JOJ is absolute perfection! He is ranked right next to Ramin. And only because I saw Ramin with Sierra and their chemistry and passion is WAY better! OH! And his sarcasm when he says "your lover makes a passionate plea." 😍😍😍😍😍
I am such a huge JOJ fan and these clips are amazing. His performance was Brilliant! He doesn't play the Phantom....he IS the Phantom. Thank you thank you!!
That kiss ,my god that kiss was full of love agony and hatred . you can see his pain .How he burns for the one he loves and yet though in deep anger and desperation slowly slips away as he tastes the glimpse of being loved . The best phantom ever
Oh my goodness, the part when Christine tears herself away at the end, and he puts his hands to his face and crumples to the floor... so heart-wrenching! That was so masterfully played by John Owen Jones. Thank you for posting this video! Otherwise I would never have seen that wonderful and terrible moment.
Well talk about being psychological screwed with for many years. He definitely broke her. I always wonder how she was traumatized after all this, but it never goes into it in the book.
I saw JOJ as the phantom in London about a year ago, I love Micheal Crawford and Ramin Karimloo to pieces, but I have a special place in my heart for JOJ because I don't know what I would have thought of the show if somebody else was the lead. I'm so lucky I got to see him live, his performance is always so tragic.
I have felt like the Phantom at times. Like I was excluded from a life that my peers enjoyed, and that I did not belong. I think many people feel that way at some point in their lives. That said, I tend to sing the "pity comes too late" part many times when I'm alone, it's my favourite part of the play as well as the part between Phantom, Christine, and Raoul.
I cannot handle the emotional weight of this scene. Of ALL the final lair scenes I have watched, this one is the most emotional of them all. I love Sierra Boggess and she is my second favorite Christine but no one quite captures Christines childlike innocence and voice the way Rachel does. So where Sierra truly inspires me as a person, Rachel evokes many emotions and is somehow more relatable as Christine. JOJ is by far the best Erik. He inspires some apprehension while evoking your sympathy in a deep way... Ramin is GREAT, truly great but he has a slightly aggressive touch which is admirable for the character but evokes less sympathy for Phantom in my opinion... JOJ had it all. He and Rachel make the perfect pairing for this show.
I lost someone so close to my heart, so close to everything. We saw the broadway show, TWO ROWS FROM THE PIT! Unforgettable, amazing…words can’t describe it. I pushed her away just like the Phantom (not literally). It’s been about 10 years now. I’ve stayed strong, I’ve learned my lessons.
Wow so emotional to watch here on RU-vid... I can't even imagine how powerful of an experience it was to see this live. JoJ and Rachel... they brought everything they had to this performance, it's easy to hear and see.
As always, JOJ is such a delight. What really gets me in this one is when JOJ brings her hand to his face after he says I love you!!!! I also love when Rachel refuses to look at him as he confesses. Both a very nice and heartbreaking touch. Also, who played Meg here? She’s beautiful!
This was the best Play I have ever seen, JOJ was awesome, went last Thursday for my birthday, still cant figure out how they did the bit with him covering himself in the cloak and then disappearing like that.
There is a lever on the chair. The Phantom sits on the chair and hooks the cloth to the headrest and pulls the lever that slides him out. I heard in a interview once with Hugh Panero that a Phantom cover once got stuck so he handed Meg the mask from under the sheet.
My favorite Phantoms, Jean Valjeans and overall male Broadway singers are the same three men. In no particular order Colm Wilkinson John Owen Jones Ramin Karimloo
These jerks should have filmed his final lair with Katie Hall in the west end. John & Katie should have been the 25th concert leads, they are the best phantom and christine pairing, they actually matched the characters. ALW and cameron mackintosh boomer mercenaries. JOJ is the Best of all time and he deserved so much better.
I feel like his Phantom seems actually semi-reasonable, lol. Like, she'd have a leg to stand on to reason with him, he's sort of extreme in his desperation, but at least grounded in reality. Whereas a bunch of other Phantoms in the Final Lair just seem off the charts whacky and unhinged
I think the Phantom's true desperation at the end makes his character much more relatable. It's that why it the book too. He is the most tragic antihero ever, her murders and manipulates people but we still love him and empathize with him so much.
It drives insane that nobody recorded a full video of JOJ with Katie Hall in poto at Majesty's theatre. John was even more amazing than in this video. The audience applauded so much after his "it's over now". You can hear their reaction to his MOTN and their PONR. JOJ & Katie are the best phantom/christine pairing and it's infuriating that most people will never know that. They actually matched the characters unlike other casts people gush over. John & Katie SHOULD have been the poto 25 concert leads, cameron mackintosh is a mercenary scumbag.
The kiss was a very unique portrayal, different to other phantoms - love it! Rachel is good but not great, I do wish JOJ had someone who had more suited to him for the chemistry
I feel his "down once more" so hard. This man, John Owen-Jones breaks my heart into pieces then tap dance on what is left. I wish I was Gina Beck to be his christine :'( he also touched his lips in the final lair with Katie Hall ❤
+Merthurmad How about pulling Mr. Matthew Cammelle from his hiding place out? JOJ is too famous already. He can be as mad as JOJ. Earl Carpenter is good, but his high notes are nasally.
A Very convincing performance by John Owen Jones. Anyway every cast is superb. Poor poor phantom! Starved of human affection and love! So desperate for Christine's love.
I'm tired of in every JOJ phantom video everyone only praises the actresses despite him putting all of his heart into the role. But then again everything has to be about women even more so in entertainment. John is the Phantom. That boomer mercenary cameron mackintosh should have cast him for the rah concert
I think most “real” Phans prefer Crawford, Panaro, Warlow or Jones - it’s the teenyboppers that go crazy for Ramin (because they want to fuck him lol). Ramin’s singing is actually really off - I wish they would redo the 25th with a better Phantom!
Uh not every POTO fan has to be a fan of Ramin and Sierra...like, the show existed for like 25 years before they came into it lol, Now if you meant to say to trigger Rierra fans, that makes more sense
JOJ is a great Phantom, I'll admit that. One of the better ones. But holy crap, dude, the mellow drama was kinda over the top. ^^; Especially when he yelled "go now and leave me!" That was way too over the top and overly dramatic. It was more comical than pained. ^^;;; Otherwise, he's got a great voice and can emote quite well when he wants to. Other times, he hardly shows much emotion. Like he just wants to get his lines over with so he can go home, lol. But, like I said, I still enjoy seeing him perform. :) He just needs to tone down the drama a bit. Haha.
I completely disagree, this is a man having a complete breakdown after losing the love of his life, his one hope of a an escape of a joyless life. I could sense the anger of having to let go of that, and his pain, in those screams. It brought me to tears actually. It was exquisitely performed.
