Wylie Head Beach is located in between the southern side of the 200 m wide head and a smaller wave-washed granite outcrop. The beach is 150 m long and forms the eastern side of a tombolo that links the rocks to the head. The beach faces southeast and receives moderate protection from the bordering rocks and rock reefs, with waves breaking over the reefs, and reducing to less than 1 m at the shore. While a continuous bar and lower wave dominate the beach, the small embayment is drained by a permanent rip that runs out through the reefs. There is a car park at the base of the head adjacent to the northern end of the beach.
Wylie Bay is recommended for those who have a 4WD, as the beach can be soft and boggy. The beach provides access to the sand dunes, which are enjoyable for thrill seekers on sandboards, motorbikes, and cars. Wylie Bay also has a surf zone, for anyone seeking adventure in the water.
