I think that the German jets that your pilot friend shot down while they were taking off were Me 262's. Legendary Ace Chuck Yaeger was decorated with a Distinguished Flying Cross for shooting down an Me 262 in aerial combat.

Hello, Team Whittmann! The irony of this Australian law is too much. These objects, the government is banning the collecting and trade of, were war booty originally collected by the brave citizen soldiers who fought and defeated the 3rd Reich and assured the survival of nations like Australia. I can assure you that when those battle-hardened warriors carried home a flag, dagger, armband, or any number of other bits, their motivation had nothing to do with glorifying National Socialism, Hitler, or war crimes. These old objects, many of them actual works of art, are part of our collective historical memory and deserve to be preserved. While collecting, done with care, is a sound investment financially, we collectors understand that we are also investing in a future where young people appreciate the sacrifices and courage of the veterans (the first generation of collectors!) who brought home these objects. I apologize for my little rant, but I am incensed by the stupidity of the law in question. Thanks for the splendid video!

You can google the Indiana man's name (Robert Kalyvas) and he was a combat infantryman during WW II. He fought through Germany and was there at the end, so Sgt. Kalyvas obtained the flag himself. He passed away in 2003. Sad it couldn't stay in the family, but those things happen.

Always nice when a government makes a decision that goes against the people and their private property right? I'm always one of the first to say "It is what it is" however, I will not be saying that in the case of Australias new bill.
I met Clarence ‘Bud’ Anderson, a WWII P-51 triple ace who said that they could shoot the ME 262 jets down on tight inside turns. And as you stated, also on take off or landings where they were very vulnerable. Anderson is still alive at 100 years old! Check out his videos.
The government there seems to have gone rogue. Look at the crack down it did during the Covid pandemic. Ironically their crack down on German war souvenirs resembles Germany in the 1930s and would make Hitler envious.
