PART 2: • Downfall of Italy: 194...
Italy in World War II gets a bad reputation as a nation that never accomplished anything, and was ultimately irrelevant to the outcome of the war. But when the Allies finally decided to invade Italy in 1943, they quickly became stalemated by a series of expert-crafted defensive lines created by the German general Albert Kesselring. Join us as we explore exactly how the invasion that was predicted to last only a few months turned into a grueling ordeal that lasted all the way up until the Axis surrender, and cost the Allies over 300,000 casualties.

Well, Mussolini had to face an entire world which had hundreds of millions more people, more resources, etc. Caesar's Italy fought against many people who were still living in mud huts, who worshipped trees, had no written language, no civilization for the most part. Mussolini was actually great at literally draining the swamps. He got rid of malaria cases for the most part, made Italy self-sufficient in many ways, most notably it needed no food from outside, and it didn't suffer during the great depression, unlike the socalled democracies, from England, France to the US. And quite frankly, if the Axis had won, Mussolini would probably be seen as truly greater than Caesar, in every way. He brought the crucifixes back to hospitals, public offices and schools, made Catholicism the official religion of Italy, gave the pope freedom, was seen as a great Catholic, and a man of the people. And if he had helped get Corsica, Malta and the rest of Italy back, plus even more colonies, then he would be without a doubt greater than Caesar or any other Italian ever.

@josephrichter2104
@josephrichter2104 3 года назад
@@Jeff-lc7lp Well, I understand where you are coming from, and it would seem like things would be better, at least especially for Italy, had Mussolini never joined Germany. Italy joined Germany mostly because Italy was abandoned by everyone else, from its former WWI allies, England and France. They both literally sanctioned Italy during the Ethiopian war, even though Italy was right in attacking back after the Walwal incident. Meanwhile, England and France enjoyed large colonial empires, which they achieved through even less noble and justified means. But that's besides the point. England and France especially were responsible for so much turmoil and injustice in Europe. Wilson's right of peoples to self-determination was thrown out the window. If the Entente had instead allowed peoples to decide their own fate, there would have been no world war as we know it. Czechoslovakia wouldn't have existed, but instead, the Sudetenland would have joined Germany, as Austria would have joined Germany as well. Czechia would have been its own thing, Slovakia would have also existed, and Hungary would have received many of its majority Hungarian lands back. And the biggest thing is that Danzig would have been part of Germany again. Anyway, it is thanks to Mussolini being allied with Hitler that Germany and Italy were able to help undue the wrongs of Versailles and helped create nations like Slovakia, put an end to the Sudeten crisis, etc. And Germany became stronger due to all of that. With an even weaker Germany, that would have meant an even stronger Soviet Union which would have wiped out Germany and then the Soviets would have been at the doorstep of Italy. England and France forced Italy to either join Germany or die alone at a later date.

@Dan Gurău Dude, come on, it has long been established that the Nazis and Fascists co-opted socialist rhetoric to gain support. These were not socialistic parties, they did not advocate for nationalization, abolition of the commodity form, or worker ownership of the means of production. In fact, the term "privitization" was coined from Nazi Germany selling off state assets.
@lordfedjuvekinval252
@lordfedjuvekinval252 3 года назад
@Dan Gurău 1) Mussolini may have been a socialist until WWI, but he had already moved right by the time it ended. 2) if we use the "modern" definition of fascism (aka it being turned into a definition of anything far-right) i guess you could say national socialism is dascism, but no matter what definition you use, dascism is NOT national socialism, despite similarities they are still different and distinct ideologies (like marxism and stalinism on the far left). 3) the "socialist" in national socialist much like the """leftist""" rhetoric they sometimes used in their early years was nothing more than a political strategy to earn disgruntled far-leftist support. There is not any major socialist presence within the fascist and nazi ideologies. 4) Italy was fascist, not nazi

@@elmascapo6588 No, you are completely incorrect. You do not understand the distinction between socialism and communism, I will explain it. Socialism is an ideology which believes that the workers should own the means of production (and govern themselves democratically). Additionally, the commodity form should be abolished, meaning any surplus value (value added to make a profit) should be eliminated. Communism wants to achieve all of those conditions, with the addition that all class and states are abolished. A classless stateless society.

"The US were the people who threw a grenade on Japan's board. " Ah yes, as if Japan didn't strike Hawaii which was a part of the US at that time. That meant they themselves also threw one at the US, and note that the US was at peace meant that the Japanese attack broke international law from the beginning, so don't expect mercy from the awakened giant. And also, heard of Operation Cherry Blossoms At Night? This Operation was proposed by the Japanese to attack the West coast of the US with biological weapons that Unit 731 researched (using human guinea pigs, of course). This Operation was, of course, canceled because it was supposed to be executed in September of 1945, but the US nuked Japan back in August. And here you are telling people that Japan was simply a victim, or that Japan only attacked US soldiers whilst the US nuked civilian populations. Let me tell you this: Nukes are bad, but which is better? Nukes or bio-weapons? Drop one nuke on a city and only that city is affected. But drop one bio-weapon in one city, the results would likely be that the rest of the country would be affected and a lot more catastrophic. If the Japanese had a chance, they wouldn't hesitate to attack US citizens directly on US soil.

So we looked at the data and the 2 most efficient infantry in terms of casualties inflicted to sustained, in the west, after 1943, were the Axis Italians in Sicily followed closely by the Allied Italians in Sicily, lol. Not mainland Italy and it is critical to point out that.

Mussolini’s puppet state was the Italian Social Republic, not Socialist, it was a fascist state and didn’t even have the “national socialist” branding like German fascism. It was very much a classicalist regime, antileftist in character, though in the most morbid possible fashion.

One point not mentioned ploesti crucial for the operation and the Nazi war machine 17 major raids reduced production to 9% this had a major effect on Germany's ability to save war. Was it worth it well either you have an entire army group sitting doing nothing for a year. It allows the allies to gain battlefield experience . Should it have ended after dday probably but it sapped German military strength continuously for nearly 2 years
