This video will go through how to download Pronterface to your windows pc. The current version as of this recording is 1.6.0.

In order to connect Pronterface to your 3D printer you need to use device manager to find out what communication (COM) port your printer is and make sure you set the BAUD rate to be the same as what is on Pronterface. I use 115200 as that has given me the most success.
Pronterface can be used for many things but is mainly used for sending gcode directly to your 3D printer. This works great for troubleshooting and calibration.

Why did you provide a link to a 3 and a half year old version of this? I'm guessing it was a mistake. A much newer version is available. Specifically the bottom of the 3 links you provided takes you to the much older version.

Fuck me... This fucking software was driving me nuts. All the slicers I've used just connects. No problem. Plug the usb in, and the slicer lets me control it. This fucking software needs you to run around in circles to make it work. All I had to do was, as you said, change the FUCKING bits per second? What kind of shit design and/or coding is that? :P

For some reason pronterface does not work on my new (dedicated 3d printer pc) win10 home. "Failed to execute script pronterface" It works on my pc and laptop both win 10 pro (laptop is broken tho so I bought new cheap pc) anyone knows how to fix it ?

i only get an .exe file, and it states "failed to execute script pronterface"... edit: "Printrun-win-18Nov2017" works. the latest release doesn't for me.

It didn't work for me because the button to download the app didn't appear, all it said was source code ZIP and source code tar.gz

I had my McAfee really give me problems with this program. I thought it was just sensitive, but I actually looked to see why and found that my PC was being pounded by "random" ip addresses trying to get in different ports. I am not a computer genius, but this is what is states, "the PC (random ip) tried to connect to UDP port (random port) on your PC without your permission. The source IP address is on your local network." Nothing is on the network but my PC and the Printer. So I don't know what to think. Is anyone else getting this. Oh bye the way, McAfee will automatically remove the program after is attempts several IPs and ports.

I'm not sure where else to ask this to get a good answer but I'm trying to save settings to eeprom using M500, it says it's searching and never finish's. Do you know the problem?

Do you have your SD Card in your printer? Also I am assuming your 3d printer is an Ender 3 V2, is that your printer?

@@rainmaker3d I’ve connected a cable from my computer to the printer and it’s connected. I have an ender 3 pro, I assume it’s much the same as a v2 for this.

@@ColeyPatroley okay that means your printer is at least connected and communicating. All you should see when you run a ln M500 command is sending, you never get a confirmation... I have never seen it just say searching if you have your SD card in then the only thing I can think of would be restarting everything and trying again.

Guys you may also need CH340 USB to serial driver, if your system can't recognize printer. You can find it on support.th3studio

My Creality Ender 3 does not show up when I connect it to my computer on Windows 11 Pro, I went to Device Manager and had to show Hidden devices in order for it to even show my my Ports, but upon plugging in or unplugging, powering on or off my 3D Printer even changing the cable nothing happens. Prontoface was allowed through both Windows Firewall and Comodo Firewall, and was not blocked by Comodo either.

Hi Kenny, I run a Macbook Pro with OS X 11.1 ( Big Sur ) and it tells me that "Printrun-Mac-18Nov20172.app" needs to be updated!!! any ideas? Cheers.

I don't have a Mac so with that said here we go... it looks like you did grab the latest version so that is good. Other than trying to get it again and retrying I am not sure what other advise I can give... Sorry I am not much help on a Mac.

Hi, I just got a Micro 3D, an dI knwo its old, but I had it working and printed a file recently, now I cannot get Print run to connect. I checked the COM port, adjusted the Baud rate, and it still wont connect, I am getting Could not connect to COM4 at baudrate 115200: Serial error: could not open port 'COM4': PermissionError(13, 'Access is denied.', None, 5) I am not sure what I am doing wrong...

I have an older Ender 3 pro and required a MINI type B USB to connect. Otherwise, everything else was great.

Subed! Straightforward! One question please, is it safe to just connect the USB cable directly? Some were using 5v isolator they say to avoid frying the board of both the printer and the laptop

Thanks! I can only speak from my experience, I have never had an issue plugging in my laptop to my 3d printer with a usb, I have never used a 5v isolator before for my printers.

hello im trying to connect my ender 3 max to my computer using pronterface but when I go to device manger I dont have a port section however it seems to show up under Other Devices> USB Serial with a yellow exclamation mark. I tried hitting update drivers but it says it cant find any. I have tried moving it to different usb ports to no avail.

Hello! I have an issue with mine. I'm using an Ender 3 pro with the silent motherboard and a bltouch, trying to set the z offset. Whenever I try to send a command, I get no echo back unless its a command to print data, like M503. I've checked the port rates and they match and the COM is correct. I'm not sure what else to try.

Hi Rainmaker. my pronterface won't show up under the "port" tap. When i go to the windows device manager. it says: unknowen USB device (requested device desribtion failed) How did you make your printer show op under "port"? I do allready have the CH340 driver. Hi Max sometimes you have to restart your computer. If you have the CH340 driver that should be it. You might also then try a different usb cord.

Hi, I am currently working with an Ender-3 V2 and I am trying to set it up to print from the computer. I have tried to install the driver and it is not showing up in my ports. Is there something I am missing? I am working on a Windows 11 machine if that helps.

Sometimes I have had luck with rebooting my PC. You can try that and then try a different USB cord to make sure that's not the problem.

Hi, thanks for your video. Just a basic question : is it possible to modify the E0 max temp setting via Pronterface instead of going thru the hassle of compiling new firmware, Visual Studio, Arduino IE and the likes? I have 4.2.7 (32 bit) board on my Creality, bootloader is already included. I don't feel comfortable with altering G-codes and flashing process. Thanks very much in advance!

I had this issue with another student. I had to click on the device and eventually it moved to ports. I would advice resetting your computer and moving ports until it pops over to ports. It can be finicky to initially setup.

Nevermind. Issue was just that I had Cura running also, which blocked access for other software.

When I plug my printer in with device manager opened, it shows the printer in other devices, and not the COM & LPT drop down. Under other decices it says USB serial with a yellow exclamation triangle. Basically wont show up under COM ports.

@@rainmaker3d do u think u have any driver links for the CR-10, device manager shows an error that there are no drivers for my cr-10. i have been getting a problem where pronterface will not connect, i think the lack of drivers might be the issue. or do the mentioned drivers work for the CR-10 as well
