Downsizing from Checked to CARRY-ON ONLY (Pack With Me)

I'm going on a trip, but I want to downsize from a checked bag to a carry-on only...

There is a lot more that goes into a checked bag (obviously), so that means I need to go through and pick things that I really need and leave the stuff I won't use.
I will go through reasons to downsize from checked to carry-on, and how I pack my carry-on luggage. I also make a list of things I won't need for our upcoming trip to Southeast Asia!

For anyone who is interested, my bag weighed 9.5kg with everything - most carry-on limits are 10kg. But if you need less, then you can pack just a little lighter than this! Could you lay your backpack sideways on top of the suitcase so the shoulder straps loop around the wide handle? And great job tetris-ing those cubes - so satisfying! 👍

Love the new luggage. I am going to travel to Europe for the 1st time with a carry on only. I have been trying all different ways to get everything I need for 2 months to fit and I finally got it. So satisfying. I'm assuming you will be rolling your clothes tighter that what you showed us. You will be able to get more in if you roll tighter, especially the retro jacket. You could also try the "burrito" method. Can't wait to see your upcoming videos. Hugs from Ontario.

Just wanted to mention that you may have an issue with the clear liquids bag you are using. I follow a number of RU-vidrs who specialize in packing tips and some have mentioned that Canadian security agents at airports are not allowing the 1 "QUART" TSA approved bags as we are in Canada and should be using the 1 LITRE bags. I know, some people are that picky. I would suggest you grab a couple of the 1 Litre bags at the airport so you have them just in case.

Can confirm. This happened to me at YVR on the last leg of our homeward bound flight. I had to discard about $35 worth of products.

Nice suitcase. I like to put my liquids in top of backpack, it makes it easier to take out at tsa if needed. Safe travels.

We are in Malaysia and it is very hot and humid here so good job packing. I find I like very cool light dresses (LA talking here not Dean although he might dresses lol). Awesome video Sarah and Eric ❤

Just trying to figure out how you are getting around the weight limit for carry-ons? I would definitely go carry-on only if it wasn't for the weight limits of most airlines. Cheers! 🇨🇦

I was thinking the same thing about weight limits. That’s one heavy carry-on (8 lbs) for many airline carryons.

I'm flying Delta on an international flight in a couple days and there is no weight limit for carry on. Of course you have to be able to get it in the overhead bin.

The Carry-on weight limit for most flights is 10kg, and this bag with everything in it is 9.5kg. Things I would take out would probably be any cosmetics, and bringing lightweight sandals / buying sandals when you arrive in a place. These bags fit perfectly in the overhead bin, as we showed in the video!

As the Voyageur has 2 out of 3 dimensions that are over the typical carryon size limit, did you try putting the bag in one of those metal sizer bins to see if it still fits? Great video.

It just makes you feel like you can fit more than you should. It’s a nice way to get things compressed and organized, but I do agree that it can make your bag heavier just due to overpacking.

You should weigh your luggage at the end and show the audience how much does it all weigh. In Asia and Europe, the carry on total is 7KG. So if you have a backpack and a roller they will weigh both COMBINE (7kg). I don't think your total is below 7KG so you would have to check in your luggage. Fail.

It’s in the pinned comment so you can read it there. The standard carry on size in most countries is 10kg. Even Ryanair is 10kg. If you need it to be 7kg, then you’ll just have to pick out a few extra things to comply with the budget airlines.
