Before we get too far into building the downtown, I need to figure out how we will get cargo rail here!

The Bowser Bay experience is living peacefully in your home, and suddenly hearing a voice from above go "Meh.. I don't know, I don't like it." and then having your house disintegrate into nothingness around you

The district between the rails seems the perfect place to have some warehouses but also some bars and discos intertwined. The kind of bars and discos that play underground music, organize flea markets, sell old records and host raves.

I’d really like to see the main park decked out with all of the park building amenities; yoga plazas and community pools, etc. I don’t think we’ve ever done a park like that.

Feedback: the city is an urban setting. A suburban area does not make sense for the downtown area of the city. The city should be high density. Especially next to the stadiums.

@TwilightStar91
@TwilightStar91 2 года назад
@@cowtippper1996 That's actually exactly what a lot of Australian cities are, we have only a few blocks of like tall skyscrapers and then townhouses right up to next to the CBD. Then in low density areas, we don't have like those Main Street USA style buildings that are commercial at the bottom and apartments at the top, in a rural town, no-one lives in an apartment. I lived in various places in the city for 7 years and the only place I lived that was like an apartment was student housing.

There are townhouses/normal houses in downtown Vancouver, BC! I don’t think it’s that uncommon to see a smaller more residential area and not just skyscrapers in super urban settings. I do agree tho that the townhomes near the stadiums don’t exactly fit. In Vancouver it’s mostly big condos and commercial buildings near the stadiums.

Build your stadiums on the giant hill over the highway and freight terminal. You could build several and some landmarks, with a dedicated subway running from the central train terminal and doing a loop on the hill around all your stadiums and pool or whatever... You could call it Olympic Park.

23:00 Flabaliki I think the district between the rails is a good space for services like a recycling centers, offices, warehouses and even some commercial stuff and factorys like for example a car manufacturing plant could also go there, all those things are not unusual around and between rails and railway stations because they profit of good short connection to the railway

I really like the cargo station area, the detailing really makes it worth it. I think it's fine for it to stay there as it is - is there any other mode of transportation that you can place depots for between the station and the bus terminals? That would fill up the space nicely. Also I think another car park like the that's already there wouldn't look out of place.

I think definitely move the port further down the coast, cos otherwise it feels too near so that residential, so instead that could be a great residential area with a beach and the industrial port and airport (which often go together IRL) could be further down the coast, easier for the cargo rail too 😊 Great series! Really enjoying it

When you do trams/streetcars you could downloads some old "San Francisco" like assets to make it like a historical tourist attraction? And if you put it in that townhouse suburb it would look SOOO nice, really similar to something you could see in San Francisco.

@TwilightStar91

I love having townhouses in my CBD, my last city I specifically made a building theme of high residential that was only townhouses and only used skyscrapers in like the main four middle blocks. That's exactly how it is in Perth, you go from skyscrapers in the main CBD avenue to townhouses and those Australian cottages you said you loved in an earlier episode. If the townhouse-size growables don't have enough population, just change the settings with RICO (go to settings, find the building, add local settings, de-select Realistic Population Mod, select density and level and then enter how many households you want). There's a creator on the Workshop who has some very modern Australian/NZ style townhouses, their name is AliTarGz. Like the kind we see in housing developments.

suggestion: personally i don’t think the low density really fits around the outskirts the city just yet, it kinda takes away the feel of a big and busy city for me. especially with them being so close to the cities stadiums. however, that could just be because i dislike the look of the low density town-houses. i really liked the look of the low rise high-density like you did in Hawthorne, i think that would be a perfect fit for outskirts of this city. i do agree that a suburban area would be better on the hills as opposed to skyscrapers but i think the high density feel should continue for longer. i would looove to see a zoo in the city, i think that’d be really cool for one of the parks :) a swimming pool or leisure facility would be cool placed next to the library so it’s not on its own, perhaps with a car park in between, those two things seem to coexist a lot here in the uk but not sure about aus. i love how the downtown looks so far! can’t wait to see it grow. the station reminds me a lil of st pancras, with the curved roof and the clocktower! the shops and hotels around it are such a good fit. i love the industry/storage type area where it is too, it’s realistic. when i pull into my local station alllll i can see is factories and storage depots and even a few garbage tips.
@BethanyJackson-jx9hs
@BethanyJackson-jx9hs 2 года назад
Agreed! I think hotels and compact low/mid-rise buildings (like the ones in Hawthorne as you mentioned) would be a better choice near the stadiums. Stadiums will attract a lot of people, traffic and I’m going to guess tourism, so it makes more sense to have high density housing, shopping or restaurants in those locations. Love your work Flabaliki, I could watch you do this for hours!

Personally I'd like to have the "cargo rail" connected to the main station, so you still can run a train to Bedford and beyond (connect the roads please!). Perhaps it would be cool to add some canals in the city centre? Also, that lone road you zoned as last might make more sense if it stops at another station for commuters (with bypass rails), would be cool. Then on the other side of the Central Station, do plan the tracks heading out to both left ("Mill Meadows") and right (planned harbour). Might cause the need for some rail interchange but the elevated rail could go through the city to the harbour (both passenger and cargo) and perhaps have a station in front of the stadium?. Also you could connect the passenger lines to two sections at the station, so it can use four tracks which provides more capacity (useful for later and intercity trains). You could put your services in the centre of the rail web, together with some disco's/clubs. That default football (soccer) stadium could work in the middle of a high density residential zone imo, but that might my European bias ;).

I'm loving the series James. 😊 For your bus terminal, I think your problem was that the lanes were forcing your buses to turn around somewhere else because they could only go straight. You could've used the Traffic manager lane arrows tool to allow them to turn right into the bus station at the node you added. At least I think so. 😊

I'm probably little bit nitpicky but please watch the sidewalk wide when you moving and placing building, In some place they're way too narrow for high foot traffic area(like the mall) because you put the building too close to the road or have obstacle/prop from the building that pretty much block the pedistrian to walk.
@ronniemokeev3322
@ronniemokeev3322 2 года назад
I like the hilly townhouses, the same happens in Finland so it looks familiar. The style of the houses here can slide from the townhouses you put to a more generic scandinavian wood look. The town I live close to in Finland (Tampere) has high density city center areas adjoining right next to townhouses (Pyynikki) because of the Pyynikki area being more hilly and less easy to develop high-density on. The last block of high density is 3-4 stories high in a lot of areas, right next to townhouses on the other side of the road. It definitely makes sense when considering the hilly topography. Similar things happen in other Finnish cities. The high density areas are focused around flat areas and historically utilized rivers. Abrupt changes based on hills or cliffs or smaller rivers or even locations of historical landmarks like churches and cemetaries can make very abrupt changes in the zoning of the area. Some areas can also be zoned as having historical significance - this is what happens in some areas of Pyynikki where it's so hilly that even if building new buildings wouldn't be difficult due to the equipment being difficult to manouver in such tight quarters (the houses are very close to each other) , many houses are kept in historical condition for various reasons. Don't worry about people making blanket statements like "it doesn't make sense for cities to have such harsh zoning divisions". It happens all the time - and I'm betting Finland isn't the only place where it happens.

Between the railways there would be like a train yard or something, maybe even some small offices/wear house/junkyards. I think the trees barrier is nice but those houses are kinda wrong maybe they need to be more like flats and not townhouses, and have the stadiums on either side of the city so maybe one is older and one is newer

As a source of possible inspiration for the area between the cargo station and the Passenger station, I would suggest looking at Google maps and take a look at the North Loop/Warehouse district of the Minneapolis. It's an area that used to be very close to a major train station (until that got torn down in the 1970s) and features a good mixture of brick industrial buildings that have been repurposed into mixed commercial and housing. It would be the type of architecture that would match the main station in your city.
