elevators are supposed to work so long as they're in public spaces, not in apartments! is the elevator to the parking garage open on the diva's floor? that might be the problem...also, it's called a trash chute (said like shoot) 🥰 EDIT: I checked and yes, you left the elevator to the parking garage open on the diva's floor. it needs to be part of the public space, then it'll work, so says the internet.
Yeah my theory (my faulty one 🤭) was that I would have been able to use the elevator in order to connect the garage to be part of the apartment. As in making it into a connected room as I would have been able to do with a staircase. Elevators work perfectly in public spaces though, you're right. Haha thank you for the help with the wording, I need to memorize that! 😂 (mumbles: thrash shoot trash shoot trash shoot)
i just had a huge smile on my face whilst watching this Ani! Bridgeport was also my favourite sims 3 town, and i loved playing with the apartments so seeing what you're able to create in the sims 2 brings back those feelings and is so so inspiring!! thank you Ani xx
It's so interesting to see you work out all of these ideas! I love the idea of the diva living in a penthouse like this, it's so perfect. And I love how beautiful and interesting looking it turned out. I bet the building will look amazing too when seen from the rest of Downtown! Oh... and it's a trash chute. 🤓😉❤
As I was rewatching this I just wanted to note that you can make the rotatable driveways work with the park in the car park mod. They just can’t be in your downloads folder at the same time. So, when you build, you put only the rotatable driveways in, and when you’re done, you just swap it for the park in the car park mod. This way you can have rotated driveways and the sims will still park in them! Also I think someone on MTS made the vanilla garage doors rotatable as well
I looooooooove it!! 🤩😍🤩 OH man, camera angles in these tall buildings, yeah. One time for Pleasantview I built "Landgraab Towers" with a wedding area right on the top floor and yeah... it was hard to play in that lot. I wish there was a way to make it better haha but the camera angles is a good idea! Such a shame about no elevators within apartments, I didn't know that was a thing either. I suppose you could do an almighty spiral staircase down to the garage and have her walk down the whole way.... 😂 Or maybe use the Targa teleporter "stairs" to kind of function as a fake elevator? Just some other ideas. Loved the sloped windows and also shared your ick about the non-invisible ceiling edges lol, I wonder if there's any way around that other than to just turn ceilings off... The shiny floors in the foyer were perfection, although I agree that when I've used them before it's been almost too shiny haha. The rugs looked great! Oh man, when you were talking about the Diva as a celebrity, what a fun concept. You could do photo shoots and put her picture in your custom newspaper haha. The slacker career Professional Party Guest could work as a career, or I wonder if there's a custom actor / actress / celebrity career?? I miss The Sims 1 Superstar haha - I chuckled thinkiing about how you could incorporate that gameplay because my first thought was "obsessed fan" 😂 The hood terrain you could always try changing to dirt? Just as an alternative to the concrete which is a lot. Otherwise you can always cover the cement in hood deco grass haha. Am absolutely living for this Downtown reno & setup series haha, you're absolutely killing it!! ❤
Thank you 🥰❤ Oh I remember that, such an impressive build! Hahhaha yeah I was considering an epic spiral staircase but it was a bit too riddiculous even for me 😂 Hmm I wonder if the teleporter would work or if it would be just like an elevator - I don't think the parking space in the basement would be part of the apartment using that, but who knows maybe? 🤔 I got a tip about an invisible recolor of the floor edge so I think I might try that and see if that looks good - I don't particularly like that thing anyway 🤭 Thank you, it'll be a lot of fun to figure out! I think I'll just use the show business career or possibly the entertainment career (Headliner at lvl 9 looks pretty good!). Haha oh god the obsessed fan - or the paparazzi from ts3!!! Ugh! 😂 Incorporating little details from those games is something I definitely want to do though ❤ Yeah dirt could work too, that's a good idea! I think I'll stick to concrete for now though, since it's the classical Downtown vibe. Thank you so much ❤ I'm so happy that you're enjoying it
Haha that's awesome ❤ xoxo Funnily enough, the rent turned out cheaper than for the row houses I built in the previous video 😂 I think I might add on some sort of manual rent fee for the inhabitants of this one possibly, I'll have to see
This is seriously impressive! Its very inspiring to see you come up with new ideas and give them a go, and not get discouraged when things don't go to plan. I'm terrible for 'getting the wind blown out of my sails' but you're right, you can always learn something. I didn't know you couldn't use elevators in apartments, thats soo annoying. I absolutely loved Gossip Girl and it seemed like the front door to the Van der Woodson apartment was an elevator! It turned out great nonetheless, I could definitely see the Diva living here. Looking forward to seeing who else might! As for the floor edge, I believe you can grab an invisible recolor of it in Mootilda's Floor Edge Variety Pack #1 on Mod the Sims - that might help with this lot! Although, I believe I tried it before and ended up getting rid of it, can't remember why exactly - I think it might have made it look worse in some scenarios like a black void (edit: upon returning to the downloads page, looks like that might have been my fault as I'm not sure if I ever grabbed the mod it says it requires ooops)...but might be worth trying and if not maybe one of the other recolors in the pack might make it look more subtle or pleasant. Also, it might be an idea to cheat the Diva's reputation up to maximum right away to simulate her celebrity status. Excited to see what you come up with as a career for her and how the rest of Downtown develops💗
Aw thank you 🥰❤ It's so easy to get discouraged when something doesn't work out, or when you can't realize your vision, but sometimes pushing past that creates the best builds in the end ⭐ Yeah, Polynovskaya shared a really cool hack in a comment on this video that an elevator can be used inside of an apartment with help of enclosing it with a low fence - that way it's technically not part of the apartment but the sims can step over the fence and access the elevator anyway. That way it could have worked, but it wouldn't have connected the garage to the apartment - I think I would have had to use an epic spiral staircase from the 8th floor to the basement for that, but it seemed a bit too riddiculous, even for me 😂 Yeah exactly, both of the apartments in gossip girl had elevators as "front doors" - that looked so cool, but imagine the logistics of having private elevators for apartments 😱 Insane! Thank you for the tip on the invisible floor edge! I'll try that out, I don't particularly care for the floor edge anyway and I think most builds will probably look better without it. Yeah I think I'll work with the reputation system in that way - and possibly also cheat it to rock bottom sometimes too if she's involved in a scandal! 🤭 Sort of how it works in ts3, that would be fun!
OMG this is amazing! I had no idea it was possible to build something so impressive on the sims 2. You keep amazing me with your skills hahahaha The more I watch your series, the less reasons I have to go back to other sims games. We can have high buildings, active careers, pretty much any tipe of business, and if you want something very specific, like say horses or fairies, there are mods out there that work pretty well. I can't think of a single thing this game can't do, which honestly makes sims 4 look so much more depressive the more I think about it. A shame. I'll ocasionally play some specific things on 3, like world adventures or into the future, but when it comes to actually bringing a neighbourhood and it's story to life, sims 2 is for sure a winner. I'm very curious to see how this ends up working on live mode, and also to see how you would decorate those large rooms because I also struggle with it, sometimes, although sims 3 taught me a lesson or two. Amazing build, as always! Very impressive
Amazing build! I’ve defo built an apartment with an elevator however there was also a staircase in mine too. Maybe a fire escape staircase would have solved the issue you was having ❤
Yeah I think you're right that I would have had to use a staircase to connect the garage to the apartment, but having one run all the way from the 8th floor to the basement is, I have to admit, pretty riddiculus even for me 😂 Polynovskaya shared a really cool hack in a comment on this video that an elevator can be used inside of an apartment with help of enclosing it with a low fence - that way it's technically not part of the apartment but the sims can step over the fence and access the elevator anyway ⭐
what an interesting concept for a build! i love the 2 different styles for the bottom and the top. loving this build series so far! i do know there are invisible floor edge default replacements, so that may be useful?
Thank you 🥰❤ Oh that's a good idea! I don't think the floor edge really adds anything normally either so maybe making it invisible would look better anyway. I'll try it out!
That’s really disappointing that you can’t have elevators in apartment buildings… also, speaking from real life experience, the call box should be outside (especially in a building this nice) 😉
If the elevator is fenced off on the territory of the apartment with a low threshold, the game will count it as a wall, but the sim will be able to cross it. Then the apartment will have its own elevator. modthesims -> Zarathustra -> CyberSys Prefecture, District 2 -> Penthouse
Yeah, I see Polynovskaya left a really cool tip that would make them usable, so that's super cool. But yeah still it wouldn't allow private parking spaces connected to apartments. Thanks for the tip on the call box, you're absolutely right! I think I was thinking too much of how the apartments worked in TS3, but indeed, in real life they are outside of the building 🤭
Thank you 🥰 It's no bother at all! Here are the windows: www.simszoo.de/filebase/file/4195-set-schr%C3%A4ge-dachfenster/ And the wall cutter was actually meant for staircases technically. It's called a stair wall fix. I use these ones: modthesims.info/d/403889/stair-wall-fix.html

Omg that is such a cool hack!!! Thank you for sharing that! ⭐ Unfortunately, although it would allow for an elevator connected to the apartment, it wouldn't make the garage parking slot part of the apartment like I was hoping 🤔 The only way I could think of making that happen is putting in an epic spiral staircase from the 8th floor to the basement 😂 Which is pretty riddiculus even for me, I have to admit.
