Enjoy some Birds Eye footage of the lines I take for a change. Feel free to ask any questions that come to mind from watching.
I remember this run very well, it was one of my first if not my first run with Dylon Bez. I was having some health issues leading up to this and was on quite strong medications which seemed to drain my energy. That with the excitment of downwinding and riding with new peeps and you have what i got! I was near passing out straight after the paddle ups and at the start of the run fumbled 3 in a row… that took it out of me for the first and middle section of the run. I did start coming right towards the end after Dylan took my pfd from me helping me to cool down and find some sort of comfort out there.
Be good, hope you enjoy! 🤙🤙
More drone footage from Sam Kynman Cole, thank you sir! Go check him out on instagram as hes a beast with some excellent footage.

I kitefoil, but love going downwind. Usually if I have bumps this big, I'm on a tiny 3.5m kite. This is very helpful for figuring out how to ride the bumps better. Cheers

Nice, that’s a good effort using a 3.5m in 13kts! What size foil do you use? I don’t have much experience kitting beyond learning to get up with one… Happy you’ve found it helpful 🤙🤙
@sauce729
@sauce729 Месяц назад
@@downwind_drifter 13kts is pretty light for the 3.5m, I need about 15kts to go up wind. It’ll fly just fine those winds, it just doesn’t have enough power to get up on foil. I’m on a Flysurfer Hybrid 3.5m. Very speedy. And on 1300cm medium aspect foil.

Which Spitfire is Dylan on? I can pump upwind for about 5 seconds on the big 1401 and then it's over 🤷‍♂

@@stkl23 1180 or similar… he was on my gear for this run. He has a mastery that shouldn’t really be compared to… im sure he was starting to feel it though by the time he turned around 😅 He did over 3hrs on foil prone in one push, that requires all the tricks available. I love my 1180 can pump it 30secs with large DW board, and almost 2 minutes in flat water and a tiny pump board. The 1401 is too big and becomes unstable in waves over 1ft for my weight of 65kg...

Hi. Thank you for this excellent explanation on finding ones downwind path and best wave energy in the messy swell. I'm in Midwest, Michigan lake and it's hard to read iighter winds. I've seen many videos in this topic, this is simpler, and great description.

Great Video, I learned a lot from watching it. I am always working too hard and not cutting left or right enough. Hoping I get a run today here at Norfolk bay (southern Tasmania) and use less energy than I have been so far. We have a 20 to 30 knot WNW forecast for this afternoon.

@downwind_drifter Месяц назад
@@StandUpMagazin I never downwinded before I started winging around 2020 and then naturally discovered wing downwinders… from then on I was hooked, and always hunting bumps and working on linking. I guess I have 10years of recreational surf and sup surf behind me but otherwise I was very new to sup foil downwind. I think I had only done 1 sup foil session in the surf… I picked it up pretty quick though -once I found a board I could stand on- which was the axis 8’6 19” 130L I did my first run (10km) in 3 links 😁 I’ve been helping out a few friends who are starting from scratch with mixed results… I think it’s very individualised and also comes down to being on the right equipment. 🤙🤙

Great video! One question, how would you go at drawing these lines with your trusty PPC 2.8m flagged out?
@downwind_drifter
@downwind_drifter Месяц назад
@@MRD2USON same same but there would be the occasional obscuring… it becomes true (I wouldn’t have believed it) that dw with the paddle becomes easier than with the wing due to some lines being restricted or obscured. These down the line lines will be the easiest to achieve with a wing. It’s the straight dw and over taking bumps that is hindered with the wing… even the trusty 2.8! 🤙🤙
@MRD2USON
@MRD2USON Месяц назад
@@downwind_drifter Great info thanks! That makes sense, cutting across like this means going somewhat perpendicular to the wind therefore a natural place or the wing to sit. Thanks for adding more nuance than the simple "the wing gets in the way too much therefore use a paddle" that gets repeated by many. 🤙
