If your not a guitar player you really can't appreciate just how hard it is to do what Doyles doing. Twelve strings are a bit of a challenge so be as fast as he is is just amazing.
@@ColtonBlumhagen when your picking it's not at all like strumming. U can strum and play a twelve string about the same if you have enough of a contact patch. But the picking part...
@@armandomorales3809 The advantage of a 12 string for an average player, using country style bass runs & chords with a pick, is that you have a bigger target area! That has nothing to do with this video of virtuoso finger picking of course!
When he was playing classical gas, I was automatically programmed to here all that flashy stuff tommy Emmanuel does between the breaks on the chorus. It was kind of refreshing to NOT hear that.
SIMPLY FANTASTIC.. NO WORDS TO DESCRIBE.... DOYLE DYKES 'IS THE GUITAR'... WE ARE SO FORTUNATE TO GET TO HEAR HIM... RICH IN MICHIGAN, 60'S ROCK N ROLLER
lovely 12 string played by a master of the instrument and the reversed octaves bass first proves Rickenbacker and Roger McGuinn have a point, it is a different sound! 😀
you are so funny...LMFAO!!! Actually my friend it takes a lot of practice and if you love playing you fiddle ( a funny ), really work on finger picking and there are a lot of instructional videos out there that really will make it a lot of fun! I played for about 20 years, then stopped for about 20 years ( how stupid of me) and my Wife wants be back in the game so she got me a Taylor 150e 12 stringer for Christmas! I can't wait to jump into the action again! good fortunes to you!
I took my guitar to a small but sorta famous bar in Nashville. There was a great guitar player performing and he said I could do a couple of tunes between sets. When the time came the waiter said he was going to go up first, play a tune and then introduce me. Man, that waiter was a virtuoso guitar picker. I didn't ever want to pick up another guitar in my life.
I've seen Doyle once and I think he is a really good player, but, I've seen Tommy Emmanuel 3 times and me being a thumb picker since I was a kid, I know what it entails and Doyle is good , but, Tommy is great, he took chat to another level. I had a talk with Doyle about when him and Tommy played together. He called Tommy, Tommy animal instead of Emmanuel.
@@lynnwalker6721 I'm not here to argue with you because I just don't do that, you prefer Doyle hom I really love listening to but after seeing both of them on their own, Tommy was over the top in many ways. I saw a video where Chet said the first time he met Tommy he was about 13 or 14 and Tommy played one of chess songs better than chet said he ever did. Plus Tommy was one of the few people chet awarded the finger pickers award, plus made that great album with him "Win finger pickers took over the world". Tommy plays over 300 days a year all over the world.
@@lynnwalker6721 did you ever watch Tommy's classical gas in the studio video? And his playing 2 Beatles songs at the same time. And do you play guitar and if so what styles do you play? Honestly Lynn I'm not your enemy at all but I've seen Doyle once and talked to him but I've seen Tommy times and Tommy I just so more versatile. And if you rather Doyle that's fine too, but really neither one of us can say that the absolute truth is this or that like the gospel, because our opinion is not the absolute truth, and I would rather just enjoy both instead of trying to prove I'm right and your wrong, I'd rather e friends than enemies. Blessings to you and yours lyn!
He is pretty awesome. Seen him at concerts several times. It’s even more impressive to see and hear him play that song live. One time I went up to him at a break to say “Hi” and told him I’ve always loved those two songs and over the years tried learning to play them on my guitar. Love it as a medley... while I was up there speaking with him I half jokingly said “Man, I’d give up my low G string on my guitar just to have the pick your playing/using at this performance.”. Dang me. He gave me his thumb pick!!! WOW. That blew me away. Thank you Doyle and God bless you.
Finger picking a 12 string is difficult as it is. You start picking some Glen Campbell and you ramp the difficulty up to 10. This guy can pick like nobody’s business, surprised he didn’t start a fire.
@@neilangus4401 actually just type in Tommy Emmanuel and Doyle dies, there are several but not that good of quality. But have you ever seen Tommy play classical gas? Here it is ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-S33tWZqXhnk.html
@@christophermcdonnell3007 I think he is talking about his facial expressions, definitely hard work. But watch Tommy Emmanuel play classical gas in the studio. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-S33tWZqXhnk.html
If you took all the so called rock guitarists in the world and put them up against this guy And you put this guy up against the so called rock guitarists in the world There would be an interesting paradox
They're friends and have mutual respect for each others skills. Professional musicians don't do this : I'm better than you ego stuff that unfortunately in the guitar world seems to live mightily. If you're not careful can really take away the pure joy of playing. Don't worry about who you think is better. Just enjoy playing and listening.
He thinks he's showing off by playing the songs faster, but he sacrifices musicality big time, unable to keep a steady beat to save his life. It ruins what are otherwise classic songs. Shame.
@@mattdaggett3695 He is amazing. What a very very nice man ! Very humble ! I met him at Fairview Pennsylvania he was so so generous with all his time and there were just about maybe 60-100 for a Taylor Guitar Seminar ! I told him I was going to smash mine after hearing him,but he talked me out of it !! And I am so thankful he did !
