Doyle Woodworking Vise! Harbor Freight Review 

Would you buy this vise? I think it’s a bargain.

This was a fantastic review. Ty for the advice and was able to grab one during their fourth sale for 17% which was around $50 for the vise. For a beginner like myself, it has a lot of very nice features, seems sturdy, and the price didn’t break the bank. I don’t usually go for the Harbor Freight stuff but sometimes they just knock some products out of the park. And the value is certainly there. Thanks again for the review.

You’re way better off just watching marketplace or Craigslist for a 1940s columbia for $20-40.

It looks like a nice addition to your bench. My only suggestion would be to add some 1x6 skirting to the bench on either side of the vise. (You might need to plane the thickness of the skirting so that the finished surface is flush with the face of the vise jaw.) In effect, this makes the entire edge of your bench act as part of the vise jaw.

I purchased one of these Harbor Freight carpenter's vices myself just last week. I agree it is solid and so far seems very well made. I know, Harbor Freight is all China products and i have not often purchased anything from them hoping it would last a long time and be rock steady. However, in the case of this vice, it seems to be good quality with the right features. That quick release and the bench dog capability are as good as most any vice of this type. I also used a coupon to buy mine, they sent me a 25% off on any single item, asking me to come back and make a purchase. My out the door price for this vice was $56 and change. Great price for a vice like this one.
