depends on your area for sure, but I have lived in fairly large metro areas like Dallas, Nashville, OKC, and have never heard gunfire to that degree, having said that, I assume almost everyone is armed in the States that I have lived......

Um yes we have mass shootings pretty much every other week. Gun violence is a very very prominent issue in this country but no one really does anything about it.
