go ahead and put up the tent so that you can better assess the damage and then decide whether it is salvageable . As long as the roof has no holes you can use it for rain protection for tables , chairs , etc.

Take your loss with the tent. Better to get a bigger and newer under warranty tent. But an idea is reach out to a tent company and see if they will sponsor you with a large tent, or use your connection with a military source and buy one that fits your needs from them. Just an old camper woman (72) that did the same thing. So I started over. And got it from my military source while my husband was on one of his deployments and left me to care for six kids. What an experience that was. But I digress.

Jason at Cog Hill Farm puts plastic bracelets on his water lines and he puts it on his wrist when he turns it on. It reminds him to cut the water off when he looks down and sees the bracelet.

Brandon I would try taping it with the tape that you can repair boats with. It really works. Good luck If that doesnt work just patch it by sewing patches over it with big stitches and it can be done, but very time consuming. Good Luck. Your property looks fantastic.

You might want to think about placing your saw in its own area. The wood stacked that you’re gonna cut will draw in mice which will bring snakes. So you don’t want to draw them into the area that you’re setting up your living space. Just a thought.

That's too cool. It's all opened up, you should build a cabin and your family could be comfortable staying the weekend. We used to have access to a cabin on a river and it was great, we took our kids every weekend about and we even got married out there.

I have some property on a creek in SW MO w an embankment like yours. I dug out a ditch like that and then staggered a half a dozen old tires and filled up w quick cement (use some old plywood and carve it around the tire to form a base if need be or go without and just pour the cement and get it somewhat level )into a makeshift stairway. It worked for me. the cement provides some friction for easier walking and the weight also prevents them from becoming dislodged when the flood waters come. Goes wo saying and I'm sure you are already aware, those types of embankments are prime cottonmouth areas. Clean up looks great.

If the canvas is brittle it will be impossible to repair it it will just keep ripping

Dutch, if it's brittle canvas in quite a few areas the next bad storm and wind will wreck havoc on it in a big way. Before buying patch kits for the mice damage, check it out thoroughly for brittle areas? It'll save you time and money in the long run. Army surplus stores (like another viewer) suggested may be be an option for a very large "mess" tent at a reasonable price?

You can get tents on line very well priced. At the end of season get you a new one when they go cheap

Have they replaced your fence and did the gates yet. Yes it’s patch able power wash treat it and critter treat it for that reason. Set it up to dry out in the mean time.

Have you thought of using a hair to clean up the ground? Could get a small one will help clear sticks and rocks plus make the ground even.

Being so cleaned out will help keep snakes away

I think the tent has some sun rot as well as the holes from varments. When the canvas is so brittle, it doesn't hold up to patching. It isn't made for constant exposure to the elements over a long period. The moisture also weakened the fabric. Replace it. Not worth repairing. I'm a seamstress, and made my own A-frame canvas tent, 20 years ago. It's still good.

It's no snake in my land and there's plenty of fresh water 💧 we drink from the kran fresh water, we newer haf too go to the shop to get water God's blessings 😊❤

When you do get your sawmill over there you could bag the fine saw dust and sell it to your subscribers who are crafters😂

Yes , in another piece of property that me my husband was looking at had a semi dry creek running through we called about digging out a swim hole deep enough to hold water a little longer. He ok'd it by saying he'd look the other way as long we didn't disturbed the bank...erosion issues.

You could do like Jason at Cog Hill farms; he uses dollar tree plastic bracelets that are placed on each faucet to remind him to turn it off.

To get the mold & mildew off of it will be a pain and then more pain to patch it! How much is expensive? I’m so sensitive to mold- I would get a new one

Check Sportsmans Guide for a military surplus tent. They get surplus from all over the world, so they might have one the size you want that fits your needs/budget.

The water is easily done, I'll be honest I've done it myself. Got distracted by something or someone, walked off totally forgetting. 5000 gallons of good drinking water down the drain. For obvious reasons, I was not impressed with myself.😅

Tent is no good.

I'd try patching it before buying a new one. Moth balls and lint drying sheets are great deterrents for mice. I use 8 bags of moth balls every year and attach them along the frame of my camper and inside the camper I scatter a bunch of dryer lint sheets and I haven't had any mice problems. My neighbor who doesn't do anything, has signs of mice in his camper every year and out campers aren't that far apart. I keep telling my neighbor to stop being so damn cheap because every year he spends hours cleaning the inside of his camper due to the mouse feces and the smell of I assume mouse urine. For around $10 it's worth a try

Sadly with the whole tent left lying on the ground and thus spending lots of time wet unable to properly dry, at best drying very slowly equivalent to packing away a wet tent and leaving it stored wet. All its material will be very deteriorated, largely rotted, and as seen on that canvas very brittle and tearing easily. That weakened material is likely the entire tent walls and roof. With mouse holes, and likely mould attack, i believe it is a lost cause to hope repairing it. At best you may get one tent season use after repairs. Beyond that the deteriorated material, and probably thread at seams will be weakened and begin to fail, check if the stitching thread is nylon/synthetic or treated cotton, if not pure synthetic will be jn worse state than that canvas. My gut feel is it is sadly a loss equivalent to result of packing away a wet tent and forgetting it, so failing to set it up to properly dry, before long term storage.

Try Army/Navy Surplus stores for a heavy duty tent...... if Biden didn't donate them all to Afghanistan.

They do sell canvas patch kits, but if it is brittle already it is useless. Best thing to do is look for military salvage tents, thicker, bigger, and will last a very long time. To keep the canvas waterproof you can apply mink oil occasionally. Be careful not to use too much mink oil as it will clog the material and it won't be breath able.

Please don’t beat yourself up over that. You were extremely busy doing so much and with the storm coming and all that you have to do. Cut yourself some slack

You can trash that tent, mark it up as a lesson learned.

You might find it an advantage to have tent platforms.

Buy a rope ladder or an escape ladder that they use for apartments..then tie off to a tree and put in ground securely. Great job clearing that all up good job jumping hadley.....

That canvas tent is toast. Even if you patch it up it's going to continue to tear/rip. Probably better off building a tiny house or getting a tow-a-long camper.

The TENT IS TOAST! Time to start over. Go to Army/Navy store and get a thick one that will hold up.

Problem with canvas tents, if there is any mildew or mold on it, you can bet the spores will be all through it. Not a healthy situation. If no mold, you should be able to sew patches on it. The cleanup looks as good as campgrounds. Keep doing what you can, it'll be worth it.

The rubber might have been eaten by mice. I was sleeping in my tent with my dogs inside, I kept here scratching under my pillow. The next morning I found a hole where my head was. I was mad. To repair the tent is hard plus when rains. That's were it will leak is or the repair spot. And to get real clean for gule to set up. And the tents we can get while not last for long time. When I was homeless I had to put up tent at nighttime and take down in the morning. But I was had to fold it up too. To leave the the tent up for long time is easy. But not good idea because of the sun will dry rot the tent. Dry it out where sides will tear easy. Even in the shade is hard on the tents. Military store might a good be buy a tent. But like said the cost . But fold the tent up if going be away for than a week. Plus strong winds really push hard on the tent poles. I have been inside of the tent and had poles bend really far down. The area looks really nice . ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

Dutch , cut your losses with the tent and reach out to a tent manufacturer and try to get them to sponsor you a new tent! This time put your tent on a platform (wood or concrete pad) in case it rains you would be high and dry. You also could start building your future “campground “ by slowly adding other concrete pads for future camp outs. Then in the future you could mill enough wood to build cabins to make glamping/ B&B’s. Hikers/Naturalist would love that!! And you could make enough to help develop it like you want! As for the huge tree, use your chainsaw to cut it down lengthwise to fit your sawmill!

Dutch, i absolutely love what you’re doing by the creek! I am 77 and would love a place like that! It’s totally beautiful!!! Lots of possibilities, the your time, one day at a time! You will be amazed at what you can do with the place! So will everyone else! It’s a dream coming true! Dream more bub! I would love to see you milk the trees and build that cabin! What an adventure. I absolutely love the creek. My grandad had a salt creek all of us grandkids use to play in. There was even quick sand beds in it. We just had to be careful! lol. Perfect place, I think, to raise your sweet girls! Man, you did good when you decided to buy the place and move there! I can’t tell you how excited I am for you all!!! It does look awesome! Go to an Army Surplus store , the you will find a better quality one and maybe bigger. Yes that one is beyond repair I feel. You might get a better price also.
