He became familiar in Robin Hood, Sucker Punch, Drive, and The Bourne Legacy. But Inside Llewyn Davis made him one of the hottest young actors in the business. This year, he takes on the role of Abel Morales, an aspiring king in the world of heating oil. It may not sound like much, but with JC Chandor in charge and Jessica Chastain by his side, it's another great performance. Oscar talked to David Poland about the film and his work.
Shot in Los Angeles, December 2014

Yes, he is gorgeous and charming… But I loved listening to him talking about his craft, how he creates a character, and him reading "Memoirs of Hadrian" just to prepare for a role. It becomes increasingly clear how is he landing so much interesting roles -he is not only good looking, but a systematic thinker with great analytical skills to build up subtleties in characters. Great responses.

Wow, he's one of the few men who can pull off that kind of mustache and still look hot. Great interview. Hope you'll be talking to Jessica Chastain too.

He's a very talented, sympathetic and eloquent person. Too bad he keeps being snubbed for this film as well, he should get his second Oscar nomination at this point after Llewyn Davis. I watched him recently in The two faces of January, another strong performance.

***** I meant his second Oscar nom, because he should've been nominated for Llewyn Davis as well(least he got a gg nom and a few critics awards), but he was snubbed, and it seems he'll be snubbed again this year for this movie.

He's in Bourne Legacy for 10 minutes and steals the show...That's literally the only good part of the movie

Llewin Davis was my favourite movie last year, I loved it, loved it, loved it. I like what he says around 33:00, that art is the only moment when we can realise that we all feel things the same way... Simple, but very true.

It'll be a huge missed opportunity if he never plays Gomez Addams.

I don't know anything about acting but I found this interview so profound (8:00 onwards)

I loved how Oscar can still have a fairly good interview, despite the fact that his interviewer, David Poland, clearly did no research about Oscar's career, background, and upcoming projects. Also borderline, if not truly, offensive on top of all that. The acting attention when he was a kid? Over the water? Demented stroke? Even that is not a laughing matter. He needs to work on his professional tact. He's just someone asking half thought out questions and fortunately Oscar was good enough to have great responses.

This was my third interview with Oscar. The second one for this movie. I think he's okay with me. Sorry you were offended. The style of my interviews - there are over 1200 of them - is conversational. The idea is not for me to make up questions and pre-interview and all those things that so many do... so you get, essentially, a canned interview. I try to have a discussion with the subject like a real person, which could include being offensive or stupid. The great responses, I have found, come with that open method. But again... sorry if you hated it.

DP/30: The Oral History Of Hollywood I enjoy your interviews but I think we can all admit that the "over the water" bit was an unfortunate choice of words.

+DP/30: The Oral History Of Hollywood I would agree that "over the water" was poor choice of words. I think even oscar reacted. But yeah, I guess you don't know where guatemala is...I don't think you meant to offend it's just a little ignorant.

+DP/30: The Oral History Of Hollywood - I like your interviews, more relaxed and interesting the format leads to more in depth responses from actors especially this guy. He gives good interview! Afraid I'm developing a bit of a crush on him too😕
